The problem with Nothing Ever Happens is it's a quite short term view on long term problems, wherein uninformed people will look at a long stretch of nothing having happened, but a series of near misses, and conclude all chatter on the topic is just that, useless chatter. Because nothing has happened, so that must mean nothing will happen. But each near miss sets the likelihood that It Happens on a higher floor each time, and once the floor of Almost But Didn't Happen hits the ceiling of It Happened, that's when it happens. Nothing Ever Happens is the argument made by people who are not paying attention, do not know the history, and want to insult you for trying to warn them. It is the viewpoint of the instantly gratified, for whom if It Didn't Happen Today, then that must mean It Will Never Happen.
