Notable mentions for me include Pop Hates The Beatles by Allan Sherman, and a pastiche parody of John’s style and Rolling Stone interview by National Lampoon called Magical Misery Tour

This is another post that's incorrectly labelled - this is the 'Songs Other People Wrote About The Beatles' episode

Listening to this again, I just remembered when Oasis played 'Whatever' at Milton Keynes, during the harmonica/strings bit towards the end Noel starts singing 'Octopus's Garden'.

While it isn't specifically about the Beatles, per se, Petula Clark's 1965 hit "I know a Place" was said to have been about the Cavern Club (and Brian's autobiography shares a line from the song as its title, "A Cellar Full of Noise").

Bowie/Mott the Hoople, All the Young Dudes name checks The Beatles too. It was meant to be on the Ziggy Stardust album, as a song from Ziggy's fan's perspective, but when it was dropped, he gave it to Hunter & Co.

Run DMC reference The Beatles in their 1986 song “King of Rock” (which features Earl Slick on guitar).

Witty, insightful and a distinct lack of sycophancy, 3 things one rarely finds in a Beatles podcast

The Who’s “Seeker” references the Beatles as one of three 60’s leaders who ultimately don’t have “the answer” for a desperate spiritual seeker.

23:00 There is a theory that this line about "phoney Beatlemania" could be about The Knack. They were promoted as "new Beatles" by Capitol Records, got massively popular right away, to an extent that's rather forgotten today, but they also got an instant backclash including a "Knuke the Knack" campaign. I don't know, but it is contemporary to the song "London Calling" and would make sense.

Freiheit's 'Keeping the Dream Alive' from 1988 was a famously Beatles-sounding track (and ELO too). It was even recorded at Abbey Road.

Shouldn’t the title of this be “Songs That Mention The Beatles”?

She’s Electric has a chorus straight from While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I think there’s a couple more Oasis Beatle rips.

Thanks for the head's up about those 2 "Beatles Forever" songs. You are quite right about ELO's song. What was Jeff Lynne thinking? Just the 'drums' themselves are cringe-worthy. The Minus 5's version is rather dreamy and hypnotizing. Cool video, too.

Check out 'Lilith's Song' sung by Grace Slick on 'Paul Kantner's Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra' 'dedicated to John Lennon'. I know it sounds bonkers but it is a beautiful song.
