Always been disappointed that Nintendo just does not do anything with the OST's. Nothing on spotify, nothing downloadable legally. There's a reason why Bootleg Ocarina of Time OST and other official Zelda OST's bootleg vinyl releases sell for so damn much and are extremely desired. Even the "inspired by" releases sell out immediately from Rozen & Theophany. The sheer demand and love for the series is insane and always makes me pretty sad when Nintendo doesn't let Koji Kondo's work shine.

It's such a shame that the official CD releases were exclusive to Japan and in limited supply. I can go on iTunes and buy the soundtrack of Escaflowne, an anime from the '90s, but I can't buy the soundtrack of BOTW.

I grew up with Twilight Princess, so it's title screen is the most emotionally resonant to me. I always liked how it had the gentle choir to match Wolf Link's howl before a snipbit of Midna's theme plays for the final notes. If you don't go to the save file screen after that, you get a traditional advertisement that plays a special theme to a montage of the entire adventure waiting for you. I think my favorite song in this game is Sacred Grove for how immersive it is. The player may be lost, but it's comforting to hear Saria's theme as you play a game of tag with Skull Kid. By the end of that segment, I didn't want to leave. My only gripe with Sacred Grove is how it sounds a little too similar to Chrono Trigger's "Secret of the Forest" by Yasunori Mitsuda which was composed first. I think the idea that the music has been playing long before you came along and will continue to play after you leave is really cool, I won't forget it so thanks for making this video.

It does? Funny. The nopon village from xenoblade chronicles 1 has an identical melody you could do with the skull kids in oot; only the last note shifts too much for it to be possible in oot to replicate, but the first 7? They are exactly the same. I'm not sure how many variations of notes there are for the mini game, but I _distinctly_ remember that one because it felt like a proper song compared to everything else.

Great video. While I think Skyward Sword has some of the most beautiful and complex music. BOTW has the most striking use of motifs I've seen from the series. In particular the field theme has notes barely playing at the same time, as one fades out the next one plays, but they just miss each other. In every field theme the 4-1 interval is the heroes motif, its triumphant and means Link is here to save the day, in BOTW that 4-1 is barely registered, because its been so long since the Calamity. When you ride your horse, the LOZ theme starts to play, because the horse is such a catalysing presence, it emboldens you and starts to ignite the flame of Links fate. I could go on and on about that games music. Its genuinely leaps and bounds above most if not all videogame OSTs

Thank you! Sheik's Theme is so overlooked by the fans. The way the song flows is something I've never heard in any other piece of music. Some honorable mentions are the Requiem of Spirit, Potion Shop Theme, even the Spirit Temple Theme. All very "otherwordly" songs that bring you almost to a trance.

Sheik's theme gives me such a warm feeling, it's exactly like seeing a childhood friend years later. It also gives you, the player, a much needed sense of relief once you hear the first few notes. The world and story keep getting more dire and dangerous as the game goes on, yet you know there's someone there supporting you, a friend there to help you out in your journey

Spicy take but I don't think Koji Kondo had much to do with twilight princess. If you liked it, it probably has more to do with liking someone else's work. It didn't hit the same for me at all as the work he did. I'm sure his exact contribution is documented somewhere but my guess is after MM's stressful development, he began delegating more and more. Which is what leads to skyward sword where he bows out entirely. I doubt it's the on/off switch this youtuber paints it as simply because he's credited. It's usually not how things work.

Theory: So in the title screen of OoT, a melody from the original Zelda plays, wich is supposed to bring back memories from before you were born. Since OoT comes before the original Zelda, its almost as if the Link from the original Zelda is playing it to see the events of Ocarina of Time, wich is why it plays at the beginning of the game. Despite having had access to a lot of other titles beforehand, wind waker was my console go to and had me obsessed with the music. The title theme is initially cheerful but after completing the game you realise the title theme tells the entire games story with makar and medli chiming in later on in the track etc. It's so good!

I played a lot around in OoT and MM as a kid on N64, not knowing what I was supposed to do, but i still had fun. Those soundtracks always stuck with me growing up. The Oot theme never fails to gut punch me every time I hear it. Twilight Princess is the first zelda game played through and beat and brought me back to the series. Its soundtrack is my second favorite in the series. It was so magical hearing it the first time.

My piece on BotW's empty music is that while it's symbolic of the broken nature Hyrule is in during the game, the music itself is so disconnected from the location outside of towns having their own theme, that seeing old locations (Lon Lon Ranch for example), you can't help but feel like something's missing, and it's not just the broken remnants of the location, but it's theme. Maybe that was intentional, but it would have been cool if recognizable locations had their own somber and broken theme based off of their original theme(s). It's more peevish than anything, but it's that kind of thing where Nintendo could have done more, and I'd even say Koji Kondo would have done more.

The soundtrack is nice and all, but besides the opening scene where Link sets his first foots into Hyrule far to minimalistic to stay in your head. I can understand why it's that minimalistic and I can understand why people appreciate that approach, but for me personally, it just didn't "click" at all. Maybe I was just disappointed with the game in general though as it's certainly one of the weaker Zelda games.

I had never considered what you said about Breath of the Wild being broken and lonely, or how the harp represented Zelda's voice in Skyward Sword. I have been growing up as you with the Zelda series and it made me become a game developer on my own. Of course, I have attempted to fuse some of my favourite series into one as I made The Lore of Canis. It is a bit like Tunic, except you are playing as a wolf like character. I cannot remember a single "new" theme from BOTW 5 years later. Meanwhile I can remember the simple shop theme from Oracle of Ages over 20 years later. That says something.

I made a comment on another video saying exactly what you said about the music on botw. The emptiness of the music is (key word) purposeful! Link is traversing an unknown world, he doesn’t even know who he is. The Kingdom is dead. The world is a desolate place. And the music conveys that emptiness and desolation so well. great video!!

Beautiful video! It makes me so happy to see people that are still talking about this series and analyze especially the particular elements that mean a lot to them, like the music does in TloZ. I've been feeling really nostalgic about the games and their music lately and you did very well on capturing the essence of their weight in this video by managing to put these emotions into words quite wonderfully. I've played OoT for the first time back in June 2022 as a 26 years old adult, and I can surely tell you, it's one of the most beautiful pieces of media (or art) I've ever experienced. I have no memories of this game, I've never or even try it back when I was a kid and still, the feeling of "remembering something that I've never lived" was there. It has aged amazing (maybe that water temple could've done some polish) and it's influence is all over the medium. (Have to admit the first time I met Princess Zelda in the castle and that music starts to play I almost tear up. Koji Kondo IS a genius.)

It's said that, even for people who've lost their memories, music is able to persist beyond things like faces, objects, and everything else. Music stays in our heads longer and clearer than anything else, so even if one day we become too old to remember who we are, we'll still be able to recognize the songs that mean something to us. I hope someday, if it comes to that, then I'll at least be able to remember the zelda songs that meant so much to me in my childhood/early adulthood.

I played OoT on a PC, in the corner of my bedroom, with an old wired Xbox 360 control that had a spike for one of the joysticks. It would disconnect if the I didn't bend the cord in the right way. Every three seconds i would pull up a walkthrough because i found actually solving the puzzles gave me no joy. It was so convoluted just to figure out where the puzzle was supposed to be. I hated that game. It's like a 9.5/10 Something about the music, the look, the aesthetic, looking back on the story and the themes which were so fantastically. It's like they captured some magic in that game. I don't know how they did it. I played that game two years ago, and I remember so vividly, that as soon as a month after playing it I was already nostalgic for it. If I had played that as a child? Holy shit. Ho. ly. shit. Lightning in a cartridge.

I grew up watching my brother play Majora and eventually constantly repeating playthroughs of Windwaker. Today, I find myself mindlessly humming or whistling tunes from the games and when I catch myself I recall the memories the games brought me.
