I like this Sony's dial on the top. I do think you are right that it needs a power on light. You cracked me up when you said I'm taking this radio bed. You got a bad case of radio love. 🙂

After 6 months there is serious issues with the volume control. No control over volume at all after light use.

Well done review. Would like to see Sony make this radio with a digital display and the functionality of some of the digitally oriented Tecsun radios. Looks like a real winner of a radio for analog tuned radio. Thanks for your reviews and keep up the good work.

I recently bought it and this is definitely a cool radio. Sound is good, sensitivity is more than ok, and it has the added bonus of an audio input. It just lacks a dial light ...

todderbert I also bought some other Sony multiband pocket radios, such as the sw20, sw10&11, and these are very nice! Smooth tunning, good sound, very good sensitivity, and fm stereo (for sw10&11). Looking forward to buy more Sony stuff ;)

todderbert honnestly, i really like them. Specially the very small sw20 (barely larger than a cigarette pack...). It's a double conversion radio, very sensitive, and the small speaker has a pleasant sound. Impatient to see your review of these radios ;)

It's a nice little radio unfortunately I'm on my second one.... Within a year on both of them the volume gets stuck on full blast and there's no way of fixing it

Thanks for this video. You've helped me spend some dough. I have the 8GB version of your Sony Walkman, too. One thing I'd love to see, would be FM without the extra wire antenna.

Needs a high/low tone switch...sounds awfully bright to me. Where oh where can I find a good-receiving, good-sounding AM/FM/SW portable with no compromises for less than CCrane prices?

I just discover this radio and think it’s cool looking and compact. Not sure if these are still being sold and from 2010? I haven’t checked Amazon, but did see one in white and a Japanese version withJapanese directions and control markings on the radio. Not sure if the white one is only a Japanese version and has pictures that shows to be able to connect to phones and other devices and use also as a speaker. Anyway, I love Sony stuff and I was going to buy a vintage Sony Walkman, but know I want this radio. Thanks for the demo!

I love to collect many things and always loved vintage Japanese electronics and have collected many items. But while looking for vintage radios on eBay, I think I’m gonna start collecting radios. Being on KZbin, you realized many also love radios and not just buy one bc they need on and buy many. Lol! Thanks for making me feel not so crazy bc usually I have to hide my collecting bc most don’t understand and the joy I get from collecting the things I love. Haha!

I got one of these because I discovered the hard way that if I go to a drive in film in my 2018 car and listen to the sound on the stereo - a) It shuts off every 15 minutes and I have to start it again, b) at the end of the film my battery has drained and I need a jump (the drive in provides this service - it happens to a lot of people). I was looking for a traditional 90s style cassette boom box to get the stereo, but not finding anything satisfactory and still wanting stereo I got this one instead.

I would use the audio in most of the time. Definitely has more of an identity of a speaker over an AM/FM radio.

I did a medium wave bandscan. It utilizes an internal ferrite rod antenna. The external antenna is for the FM band.

Build quality is fine but to me, the sound is sub par. Too tinny to my ears. I was very disappointed.

take back off carefully lay couple layers paper towel over speaker baskets...reassemble and sounds much better thats it watch dial gear when takin apart
