This was helpful but i think Notion has a added a change where you now have to add the page, then edit it or it wont pull the custom name for the task and instead pulls the template name - which is very stupid.

Hi, Thomas. At 1:44 you reference the @Today insert for the button. I have tried this and it does type in "@Today" in the field, but it is text only, and does not convert to the date moving forward. Any advice on this point? Thanks!

I have the same problem, since "Name" is set to "@Today", when new day comes and I clicked the button. It says the name is "Yesterday" not "Today" as it should.

Hi Thomas. This is yet another great educational video as I have come to expect from you and your team. Please keep up the good work. Since this video came out a year ago, Notion has added the ability to have formulas -- it would be nice if I was able to create an action that would test a condition, and if it failed, a dialog would appear telling the user of the error and the button's action would be halted. If you know of a way to either do this or a way to make suggestions directly to the Notion team, please let me know. Thanks again for another fine video.

Because when I press my new button for a new book project I get all the types I chose, but I don't have the template in it, that I created as default when I would add a new page in my database the old fashioned way. The “@Today” in the Name property maintains the date of the button’s creation :( So, if you click the button “New Day”m tomorrow, the name will be set to “@Yesterday”… hope this gets fixed soon… or perhaps a default template can solve this

I've been using buttons in coda for a long time and you can automate buttons to click other buttons. A ton more functionality in coda. It's not even close. If coda had "Hours" function in timeline view I would've left notion a while ago

Ran into the first limitation rather quickly: only 10 items per button! My project template has 22 task items, so had to create 3 buttons! Still cool, but why the limit?

Some limitations, if I'm not wrong. There is a maximum of actions in that button (10 actually). Problematic when you want to create new tasks in your database. Then, I also noticed that if you want to edit/add something in the button configuration, it's not working anymore.

Oh that's good to know. So a button wouldn't necessarily be a great help if I wanted to assign several dozen project tasks with one click. Guess I'll stick with the old drag and drop method for now.

Yeah I hit that limit of 10 pretty quickly when setting up a button to add tasks. For some reason I also didn't seem to be able to duplicate an action easily, I had to add all of them completely manually. I hope they'll iron that out quickly and add the option to have more actions.

Brilliant feature! Two questions: 1) how can I connect the 'Completion' option with the default tasks made with the button? 2) I cannot find the option of relating 'this page' in the task, 2.5) As I would like to be able to *label* each task to their project/episode, as when I have multiple projects, there are all the same tasks with the same name in the task database which is hard to differentiate with each other. This isn’t directly. However, a button can modify a database property, and you can use the API to poll your workspace looking for specific changes to db values 😁

also we need an option to add a page to a database of a particular template. otherwise you are manually setting these properties in the button to copy something you may already have in a template for that database. also would love an option to insert blocks in a chosen page, not just the page the button exists in. or at least create a page with pre-set blocks. originally i was looking for a way to automate setting multiple relations on the newly created page to, say, all pages in a chosen database which match a chosen filter. but had to settle for creating a block with a linked database view showing the desired page selection right below the button, having the button open the newly created page in side peek, and manually moving the database view into the side peek so i can see my list of suggested related pages as i'm working on the document. then manually adding each to the relations property if they are indeed relevant to the content i am writing on that page. but would have been easier if the relations property was auto-populated so i'd have that as an inclusive list of the notes pages i'm drawing ideas from (with far less effort), and manually removing any which don't end up being used. hopefully these are already in development. sure someone over at Notion has thought of them. maybe there are workarounds i haven't figured out yet, since i am new to Notion. i have not explored integrations yet, debating whether it is worth the effort to learn purely for these purposes if we may get these features native in Notion sometime soon 🤞

"Date" can be a formula, something like this: empty(prop("Set Date")) == false ? prop("Set Date") : prop("Suggested Date") have not explicitly tried this but think it will work.

I have a question though, is there a way to create an URL where I can save it to my bookmarks bar in order to activate this button directly from any other website? If i'm creating a quick note on something, I'd rather click on a bookmark that opens my template rather than opening the notion page where that button is located and only then perform the command..

There wouldn't happen to be a way to create a button/method to clear out a property in a Database would there? I have a unique usecase where I think this feature would be very valuable. I've been searching all over and can't seem to find any way to do this or a workaround that would be helpful. For example, I have two databases that are related to each other, and if I wanted a way to disconnect the relation I have to do it manually. Would there be a way to make a button for this? the 'edit" feature doesn't really have this.

Is someone noticing a "bug" with template with databases after this update? I'm not sure if it could be related to "this page" new feature, but I'm afraid they messed up things a bit.. Templates seems to keep attached to properties that we change in the new page created with that template. Also, Sub-Items on template create a new "template" item on database and keep being related to the template page as well, instead of the new one we just created.

This is an amazing video!! Question about the relative due date formula - I have my "Projects" and "Tasks" in separate databases - they have relations, but when trying to create the offset formula in the "Tasks" database, it won't link to the "Due" date in the "Projects" database which is what I need! We will, and we’ll also release an upgrade guide to show you how to add them! Though we’ll need to go through and assess any other needed design changes. I can already think of a couple big ones (changing Kanban and Priority to Status-type properties) But in the mean time, I’d encourage you to add your own buttons! UB is intended to be a great starting point, but since we build on Notion, it’s best when you tweak it to your needs :)

I finally plunged into Notion to set up a video production process and created my main video production table. And then built out a video production template to add to the page for each video production record in the table. I like it. Just visually spelling out all of the steps in the process was helpful. But, my old Access database muscle memory is waking up, and the video template doesn't actually capture any single part of my production checklist into a table. In an Access database I would have built the following tables: 1. Video Production 2. Video Production Details And the Details table would link to the main table and capture every one of the checklist steps. Knowing which of the 11 video editing steps I'm at for any given video feels like data I should be capturing. I think one of the steps I did walking through one of your tutorials has a way to link records in one table back to another. It looks like the daily tasks you're featuring here does something similar, allowing you to associate any given task in a master task table to a Project or Area database. Which means I should be able to set up my Details table and link it somehow. Though I would need to link a record in the details table to a specific record in the main table. That way there can be 20 tasks in the details table linked to a specific video in my main table. Which would let me do what I used to do so many years ago in Access. Now, I'm off to figure out how to do that. Another run through your Ultimate Brain video it is!
