Simon wasn't annoyed that Daphne did not know his name. He was annoyed because he though she was trying to seduce him, like other ladies desperate for a husband. He thought that she was pretending not knowing his name. This was what annoyed Daphne because she was not trying to seduce him and just wanted to avoid the suitor, and she felt that Simon was thinking of her as just a desperate lady, who she was not.

The same for a show that is entirely white people. Stating it needs token characters or the anti-white "diversity" to be good is an excuse for racists to feel good about themselves. I started reading the books after watching bridgerton and really enjoyed the book. It was interesting to read all the inner thoughts of the characters and other scenes that weren’t in the series. I see a lot of comments saying how they liked the series better and I somewhat agree. If they made the series just on the book it would basically be about daphne and Simon which wouldn’t be half as interesting and popular as the series is. I like daphne in the book more than the series u tip THAT SCENE. Also in the book he does have a stutter but he can speak quite fluently normally. Just when he gets upset or frustrated. That was a thing the series got quite accurate.

If you liked the Bridgerton series be sure to read the Rokebury prequels. The stories take place a generation (or two) before The Duke and I. Author Julia Quinn weaves the stories of the Rokesbury and Bridgerton families together in unexpected ways. BTW, the narrator of the audiobook versions, Rosalyn Landor, is superb...maybe the best in the genre...she brings the characters to life so well that you forget that the men's voices aren't really male.

Two hundred years ago Jane Austen wrote a biracial character, Miss Lambe, in her last novel Sanditon. In the novel Miss Lambe is an heiress from the Caribbean. BBC made Sanditon into a series last year. What does this have to do with Bridgerton? Austen may have seen wealthy Black and bi-racial people. Is Bridgerton revealing a hidden history by having ajmultiracial cast or is it diversity for diversity sake? BTW, not everyone with African DNA is an African-American. They're not from the United States. pertainsto

Nigel also did not simply "not get the hint" that Daphne was interested. He simply was an asshole and an entitled man of the time, who clearly thought Daphne, as a woman, was no more than a cattle which should have no preference of herself. He simply would not care if Daphne was interested in him or not. "If I was to buy a horse, I wouldn't ask the horse." That line basically sums up about him and his ideas about women.

disagree with your analysis about Simon and his stutter. I think it made more appearances in the book but I noticed him briefly starting to stutter in the show when he was agitated. And as it was described in the book several times, he didn't answer right away because he had to get his thoughts together before he spokeand that happened in the show more than once. And the show does not in my opinion say he outgrew his stutter . Lady Danbury has a very distinct conversation with Daphne where she tells her that she worked with Simon very hard to help him overcomes his stutter. He didn't just outgrow it

I really like the books! After seeing the Netflix presentation I knew it was very loosely based on the book! All sorts of side stories were added and embellished as well as characters! It was an interesting series, and I enjoyed it. I think it’s a shame that they revealed Lady Whistledown so early! That was so much of a fun thread running through to keep readers guessing! The 🐝 is telling for those who’ve read the actual books!

Thank you Bopping for a detailed explaination between what happened in the show and in the books. Firstly what is most important is that the plot between Simon and Daphne remained intact . They finally got married and stay married. This explains the title of Julia's first book which is The Duke and I. Secondly the idea in making stories from books into films are there are no right or wrong. It all depends on the interpretation of the Producers in this case Shondaland and partner. If the original writer i.e Julia Quinn has no qualms in making certain characters different from the book I supposed it is all right . Clearly in the show the director decides to project Daphne's character highly since the title of episode 1 is Diamond of The First Water. This describes Daphne's beauty and character. The one particular steamy scene from the show only reflected that Daphne is truly a Diamond of the First Water. Though it is kind of sneaky for Daphne in the book to do it while Simon was intoxicated and half awake. This is cheap. As for Simon's stutter it is known that stutter could be cured with age and a specific treatment. I like the part in the book that Simon watched Daphne from afar . The author here is trying to make the readers' imaginations run wild. In relaying slightly different character of Simon and Daphne I think did not mar the storyline much because the fact that both fell for each other at the end of the ruse is what matters. Other characters in the storyline do not weigh much because in Book 1 and Season 1 , the plot is mainly on Simon and Daphne. Reeaallyy waiting for Season 2..

I haven't read the books, but I would've like them to continue to have Simon still have his stutter. At least during his stressful times. Yes, his vow against his father , was an indication of his brokenness , but that stutter would really show that this " perfect Duke" is not really so perfect.

I don't believe there are any African-American actors on the show I could be wrong. I enjoyed the characters that were added to the show. I also thought it was interesting how they took Marina who was just a mention of a deceased person in the original books and created a character around her. I also love the way they used a character who we won't meet until we get to Eloise's love story and introduced him in this first season although it was very brief. I won't say I liked the show better than the books. I love them separately but equally. I mean we've only seen one book come to life. There's a whole lot more story out there to tell

Me too. I really think the books gave more insight in the characters than the entire series did. The first series has deviated so much! For example, the character of the queen, and her involvement in the London season is beyond logic, not to mention, unnecessary! But that's what adaptations are, they have the liberty to deviate, and it's perfectly okay. Plus, I enjoyed both the versions, and looking forward to the next ones.

I prefer book Simon; there is more deep trauma and character development in my opinion. I had a slight stutter in my childhood and I know how difficult it is to overcome it. Also, his obssession with his father is crucial to understand his conflict with Daphne's. Lady Danbury seemed WAY older and more devilish in the books, kind of a Lady Violet in Downton Abbey and I would have loved to see that kind of sass. Much more like "Miranda Presley walks into the office" kind of fear in the others; not so "motherly"; she hates almost all her relatives and that kind of relationship is more strong with Hyacinth in her book. Also, Lady Featherington...( ugggg, let's avoid the wrong-in-so-many-ways corset scene), she is more clownish in the book, showing the stupidity in the Featherington family (that only Penelope and Felicity can avoid). She is not a strong woman neither bad; she is just a foolish, gossipy, loud mum that bosses around (mostly Penelope, as she was the most likely to become a spinter) and when she hurts Penelope, she does without malice. I am a fan from the books and the dissappointment just in the first episode was huge; that was NOT Bridgerton adaptation, is a "loosely based in" and for me it looses all the charm from the books. (The hairstyles do a lot to sell more Alice in wonderland than Regency to me - and the Queen; as the great Damien said: She doesn't even go here!)

It's a pity it doesn't translate onto the screen. Also the turmoil Simon carries with him inside, doesn't come across at all. It was heartbreaking to read his story and his struggle. @@FreeFallin119 not so much. You can tell at they end of the show they will get married. It's heavily alluded to. That being said... that comment maybe should have been withheld in case people didn't pick up on that. (Only read the next part of you've seen the show) If you watch the end of her storyline in the first season it seems pretty clear that they will wed. I think they ride away in a carriage together or something, plus it is heavily discussed because I think she is still pregnant, so it's kind of implied. Also, pregnancy at that time, without a husband, money, or means of support was BAD. Her beloved is dead, so she can't wait for him anymore and she has this nice guy offering her a way out of her predicament. She also was trying to marry Colin for the same reasons she would marry crane. Her and her child needed protection from the shame of being an unwed mother and a bastard, along with financial support. Crane is a good man, considering her situation, that's about the best she could have gotten before the child is born. Why wouldn't she marry him? Can't afford to wait for love again or to be a single mother with nothing but shame and hardship. Crane would probably support her and her child anyway because they would be his relations and, again, he's honorable at heart. However, that would still leave the child to the fate of being a bastard, which would be awful. So... unless she wants her child to be stigmatized for life because HER transgression... she kinda has to marry him. Sad, but that's how it was back then.
