I can't lie, I haven't read this book but it sounds terrible to take the most strong-willed, independent, out-spoken, confident feminie character, have her fall in love with a man who has lost his wife so that he can find a mother for them and turning her into this woman who seeks marriage bc she is now the last few of spinsters in her circle and ultimately become domesicated, docile, maternal person is wildly out of character and feels like the most disappointing storyline for a Bridgerton I can think of. Have no clue how Netflix will do this one, but I hope they change A LOT of stuff.

Agreed! The author tamed or brought this character into submission, and had her conform. Imagine the things this character could have done? How fun it could have been to write her adventures. Marriage and children aren't a path for many women, but it doesn't mean she cannot fall in love. I hope Netflix takes many liberties with Eloise. I've read the book and she remained her strong-willed, outspoken and confident self. She was neither domesticated nor docile although yes, the more she interacted with the twins, she developped a strong maternal affection with them. To Sir Phillip with love did Eloise's character justice in a lot of ways. Brings a lot of contrast to her desire of independance but yet wanting to have a love marriage.

I have read the book, and it is very much in keeping with her character. She leaves home by herself to meet Sir Philip, only to see if she likes him in person. She remains outspoken and independent and is the best person to help his children. And her relationship with Philip is very passionate. Loved this book!!!

I highly recommend reading the book before making conclusions based off the little details you were allowed by the series, where the story line strays a little from the book’s. I read the first five books and I must say I was not looking forward to reading Eloise’s story simply due to the fact that Sir Philip was already married to Marina, I had no idea how that would’ve panned out, and I hoped it was another Sir Philip but alas, it turned out to be the very same one. However, this was one of my very best reads, of all the Bridgerton books. Sir Philip was a man plagued by darkness and Eloise was the light he so very much needed. I love this book with every fiber of my being. I went through so many emotions, and I shall definitely read it again and again. ***Marina though, seemed to have led such a sad life, right up to her death…I wish we could’ve gotten to know her just a little better, to understand her. She obviously needed love and it seemed no one offered her that, seeing that the only person who would’ve fought for her, died on a battlefield. She deserved so much better than the cards she got dealt with.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Even though wrought with sadness and painful moments there was comedy that I found quite humorous. Eloise never lost her independence, vitality nor confidence throughout plus she’s just as talkative as ever. Some moments will have you tearing up and the next it will make your heart flutter with warmth. If you don’t want a spoiler then don’t read beyond this point. . . . . . . The most funniest I found was when all four brothers showed up! hope they include this in the live series.

In this experience,She gained more knowledge about motherhood and values in life. In the book Eloise still remained true to herself altho they were ups and downs of the odd relationship they had at first but ultimately she found herself happy and contented at the end.

@@Anna08371 I think this book has so much room to be changed around while still fitting the spirit of the story. Romancing Mr. Bridgerton has very little plot, and they were able to create a plot for season 3 that kept the essence of a lot of its big moments but still made sense for TV and for how the TV versions of Colin and Pen already differed so much from their book versions. I can easily see them finding a way to make Eloise’s season true to TV Eloise while still true to key elements of the book. I also was really hoping they would find an opportunity for Phillip to run into another Bridgerton sibling in season 3. I thought it would be a cute running joke if every season his path crosses with another Bridgerton but not Eloise, until their season. Daphne saw him in season 1, then Colin. I half expected Phillip to be at the wedding and introduce himself to Benedict or Anthony or Gregory but for some reason never be in the same area as Eloise. 😂

This is my most favorite book of the entire series, followed by Colin’s and then Gregory’s. I have SO MANY ideas as to how Shondaland could adapt it. I had thought of the Colin connection being a key as well. I’m a fan of both Chris Fulton and Claudia Jessie and look eagerly to S4 possibly be their season 😊. I am new to the books and the show this year. And all the books and seasons have their positives and negatives. But for me personally, Eloise’s book hit me on a very emotional level. I hope Shondaland pays respect to the themes of loss, yearning for connection and of post-partum depression, in both the mother AND father as this books does..

In the book Marina was a distant cousin to Eloise, when she heard of marinas death she started to write to Phillip. He never told her he had twins with Marina, it is mentioned in the book that Marina was engaged to George Phillips brother. In the series Marina was a distant cousin to Penelope, she was pregnant to her lover George, after George’s death Phillip found out about the child so married her. He inherited the title that he would now leave to George’s child. Still confused? Not sure how they will write this one.

Hahaha... I was an Eloise. It's interesting how I've seen people mentioning that Eloise lost herself, became a mother and she didnt become more than that. All I have to say is, whatever road a women takes is her own, kids or not. I haven't had any kids, but theres a sweetness in life that makes me care for others as tenderly as a mom would. I think we have overvalued the over achiever side of being a women, but what if the strong outspoken side coexist with the tender and loving side?. Loving someone doesn't take the strength away from you, it just gives you another kind of character development. I think its a lie we've all swallowed, that renouncing love and tenderness in the name of freedom aloofness and having a strong mind it's somehow the most honest route. I Eloise's journey... You never know where life it's going to take you, you might think that you'd be travelling everywhere and causing revolutions and one day you're serving soup on a little one's plate and being secrety a witch or something, having hot intimacy with your husband that happily gifts you jars for your herbs while you heal the soul of tour best friend... I don't think one it's better than the other, the question it's, how are you going to react to it, and who are you going to become?...

This information was told women on their wedding day by their mothers as recently as in the nineteen sixties. This series was set in the early 1820s Letting him have his way is hardly rape in the context of the era. Things were different then Before queen Victoria’s time women who took part in sex were considered a bit forward. You were not a nice person if you ,, gasp ,,, shock ,,, horror ,, enjoyed it ! Even less of a nice person if you responded. Please don’t put the modern sensibility into a period drama situation. Keep in mind women did not wear any knickers at all in those times. They wore a light shift that was worn for weeks without laundering. The corset was worn over this pushing up the breasts. Bras were invented in the 1930 s I think In the 1880 s a split corset existed which supported the breasts a little and gave a better shape. Queen Victoria started wearing bloomers but the early ones had the legs but no crotch.

To Sir Philppe with love and When he was wicked are two of the best historical romantic novels I have read. Why? Because through these books Julia Quinn explored two issues that never see the light of day in most romance or historical novels. These include 1) the impact of a parental suicide on the children, and the impact of the resulting severe depression on both partners 2) the impact of the death of a beloved husband on a young wife and the possibility of finding happiness once again. In my opinion the producers of the Netflix series have ruined the true impact of the Bridgerton books in exploring and doing justice to issues that were taboo in the 1800’s. The unnecessary addition of a perfect society in England, where all races live in Harmony and marry irrespective of race, has not been good for this terrific series of BOOKS that explored important issues such as the ones I mention above and whether or how true love can bloom even after the tragedies of suicide and mental illness and death of a spouse in a love match! I think race relations should have been explored better and I also feel that the perfect interracial society in England depicted in the Netflix series is a travesty that fails to show the actual restricted society where any transgression would have resulted in censure. For certain, the England of the times should have been depicted realistically. To do otherwise is to obfuscate the many ills of society in those days! I also don’t like the mess they made of the whole Marina story where she is expecting the children of a man while attending London society! This Marina is a strong character who I don’t think would ever have resorted to suicide and this the Eloise storyline would not have occurred as naturally as it did in the books! The Lady Whistlesdown character never baited the Queen - it simply could never have happened. And there was no Queen Charlotte as portrayed by Netflix. It is impossible that the Colin in the series would ever be able to forgive what Penelope did to Marina by telling the world she was pregnant just because she wants Colin for herself. Colin still seems to feel for Marina, so finding out that she outed Marian’s secret would have a horrible impact on Penelope. she is now just a nebulous figure they find their happy ending in this vapid season of Bridgerton simply because she wanted him herself! a Normal Colin to Britain America and Europe had not solved the race issue in the 1800’s! And social class was a horrible barrier in the England of the 1800’s! The Sharma sisters never existed and even if if they had, they would never have been welcomed into the London that really existed then! They would never have been welcomed into the upper echelons of English society as it really existed in those days. 0:02 😊

I have not read the books, but from what I have seen, I see Eloise as someone who may just become interested in men and relationships a bit later than most women. When she starts feeling lonely seeing all the couples around her, and this proposal dumps into her lap, she would be exactly the type to investigate it with an open mind. And what was supposed to be a 'practical', not very romantic arrangement, actually turned into love. Even a love who would allow her to be the type of person she was, and not squeeze her into the role of someone she was not.

What I find a bit strange about the series is that it is presented to us as The Bridgerton family's closeness to each other. I do think it was a mistake not to replace the duke with another actor as it is too odd without the duke and Daphne joining the family gatherings. Is that is what is going to happen each book you'll get rid of one of the family you no longer need? I don't think that says close family. I think it says there is no good excuse not to be joining the family on occasion. They are portrayed as this incredibly close family yet one by one they dissapear. It's a shame we can't continue to enjoy that part of the series.

@@micheledix2616 I don’t really care for Simon, but I was bummed that there was no Duke to support Pen at the end, and that they didn’t find a way to get Anthony in there, as well. But I suppose having the Duke and viscount lead the clapping for Pen like they did in the book would be too similar to what they ended up doing with the Queen in season 2, where she and Edwina just declared Anthony and Kate a fine couple and the Queen intimidated everyone into agreeing with them. Still, Anthony, Simon, Kate, and Daphne were four of Lady Whistledown’s biggest subjects. Especially since she’s only been writing for 2-3 years in the show vs 11 in the books. It would have been fun to get any of their reactions to the revelation of who she was.

And I feel Series 3 of the TV Bridgeton left MUCH to be desired and truly botched Pen and Colins romance very very badly. And I'm SO disappointed in the horrible way Francesca and John's devoted love story was handled and as for the change from Michael to Michaela , yuk, yuk yuk. And for me it has nothing to do with the change of ethnicity ( the John in the book was not a smallish slender ultra introvert as they depicted, that was my first yell at the screen John was a handsome well built man ) and I have no problems with a lesbian or gay lovestroy provided it makes sense within the storyline of the original. And 'When He was Wicked' is one of the best in the series as it covers terrible grief , loss of a beloved husband and worse loss of their much desired and wanted baby , deep loss of a beloved cousin like a brother and the emotional struggle to search for a more normal future. None of that can come from a relationship with Michaela especially as this is not set in 2024 but in the 1820's, 200 yrs ago. If they are going to make a faux regency series at least have the commonsense to try a little to make it make sense with a little realism . Heavens there are SO MANY brilliant series to have watched to see how well and professionally made a series could be , Poldark and Sanditon are just 2 off the top of my head that are brilliant

Plus ms Thompson had only one child…there was no blood connection to either The Bridgestone or the Fetheringtons… Plus…Louisa knew very well there was a child…so saying she was suprised as Sir Phillip had not mentioned children…!!!!! I gave up at this point…I agree Sloopy editing … Sloopy Dialoge and too many mispronounced names and words

In the last scene of Bridgerton 3, Eloise meets a young woman in passing and they exchange looks and greetings that seem to be preparing the audience to have a same sex Eloise. After what happened to Benedict in Season 3 , I'm thinking tom boy Eloise may stay more interested in her own sex. It would allow her to be free to explore her independence rather than just becoming a dutiful housewife in that society.

That was Francesca at the end of season three meeting the other young woman, not Eloise. They introduced the woman as Mikayla, a cousin to Francesca’s new husband. In the books, her husband dies after a couple years and she marries his brother Michael. In the show, I think they made him an only child, and turned Michael into Mikayla.

@@Rebecca-GLaines In the show, yes, genetically. But he accepts them as his children before they are born. That is why he married Marina. To make her Lady Crane and make her children legitimate and the son the heir to the barony, as they all would have been if George had lived and returned home to marry Marina as he planned. In the book, the children may or may not be George’s. No one ever says anything to claim or even imply that Marina was pregnant before she and Phillip got married. It is more likely that they are Phillip’s biological children. But his reasoning for marrying Marina was similar - out of a sense of duty because George had become engaged to her and made promises to her. In the TV show, I assume that they made the children George’s to strengthen the reason why Phillip would have made that sacrifice to marry Marina, and why Marina would have said yes. Especially since the original reason doesn’t make much sense to a modern audience and wouldn’t get as much sympathy from us for either character. And of course they also did it so they could introduce Marina and Phillip way earlier in the story and have them interact with the cast in ways that help us get to know the main characters, like Pen, Portia, Colin, and Daphne. And it created a high-stakes storyline for season 1. In the books, the only real storyline is between the main love interests of each book and their internal thoughts. And sometimes multiple Bridgertons’ books happen at the same time, or several years pass between books. Netflix decided to make one story per year and fill out the world around the couple more, so this was an interesting way to use characters from a later book early on for a new subplot. They have done a few things like this of changing the exact relationship between characters or the conflict between them to make it fit better for the show. Or they introduce people at a different point in their story. They did this with Francesca and John this season. Their initial courtship is not shown in the books, and her story starts after they’re married, but here we got to see it play out from when they met.

I have read the book - there’s a bunch of comments saying to read the book before judging it. I hated it. I feel like Eloise settled HARD - she complaints constantly about things she doesn’t like about Phillip but then just puts up with it or pushes it aside - and Phillip does not treat her right. Eloise deserved so much better, and I hope they change this for the better. I think the character of Eloise deserves someone who understands her, and Phillip does not understand or appreciate her. It’s the worst of all the stories.

@@sharonrudolph3648 It is different in the books. Marina never interacts with the Featheringtons or Colin in the books. The first time you hear anything about her is in book 5 after she is dead. She is a distant cousin of the Bridgertons, and Eloise has gotten so addicted to letter writing that she hears about her distant cousin whom she hadn’t seen since a couple brief meetings as children and writes a letter to Phillip, who had no idea Marina had any Bridgerton relations and had also never met any of them.

Marina is not actually in any of the books as a ' character ' but in Phillip's memories only. In book 5. I did really like To,Sir Phillip with love as a part of the Bridgeton Series, but my favourite is Francesca's story.

This is a very poor recitation of the book's storyline. It also gives everything away, which is no fun. The book is spirited and challenging as Eloise's strong-willed personality takes on Sir Phillip and his two attention-starved and therefore defiant children. Also, there is much to be said about proofing and editing copy before it is published. The errors in this recitation render it confusing and irritating to those who know the story. Read the book, folks. It's a pleasant surprise. Eloise does not settle... she grows up.
