Woah that cave was freaky indeed. So dark! - I got claustrophobic just watching lol. How brave of those women and children to have actually hidden in there.

Hi Nick & Raychel, I'm amazed you made it to my Home Town of Te Puke (meaning The Hill) in the 80s the town had over 50 millionaires who exported kiwifruit all over the world. A little fun fact of knowledge.

Learned to swim the Kaituna river when i was 5 yrs old along with all the children at our school.. Don't think they swim it these days.. Kaiate Falls is Famous these days. It was the backdrop scenery to Stan Walkers song I am from the Origin movie..

One of the problems with instant coffee can be how bitter it is. There is a way to avoid that though. For a black coffee, put the coffee and sweetener in the cup and add enough cold water to mix the coffee and sweetener so they dissolve. Mix thoroughly and then pour in the boiling water. For a milky coffee, add three heaped teaspoons of whole milk powder to the coffee and sweetener before proceeding as above. Hope this helps. Leslie

Did you guys clock that the pap hills you were climbing are fortified Maori Pa at the top? Ancestral hill forts. Pretty sure that was 200 year old hangi pit Nick was lying in 😆😆

Omg not the hangi pit LOL- we actually only learned more about Papamoa Hills after we climbed it, I wish we knew beforehand so we could've looked at it from a different perspective on the way up. Guess we'll have to read more and do it again!

My cousin lives in Rotorua. He is a rafter and kayaker and has been trying to get me to do Okere falls with him. I might give in next March when I go back over to visit them. They are building a house across the river from the Okere Falls Store. We had lunch at the store the first time I was over in 2018. We paddled the Ohau Channel between Lake Rotorua and Lake Rotoiti, then we hiked to see the falls and had lunch at the store.

Great video and yes Rachel is correct its called a kiwifruit not a kiwi e.g. a people don't call a grapefruit grape. As it the shorten word means something completely different.

ah, eh, ee!, ooh! ''ou (as in you) is all you need to smack your lips around the vowel sounds. the rest is as you read it. But Maori is a conversational language and as such, is spoken fast. Mastering the pace is the real test :-)

@richjdnz so true. All you need to do is learn the 5 vowels. Pretty simple really. There's no excuse for kiwis that have lived here all their lives to not grasp it. I guess their the racists

For the pronunciation of Okere and most other Māori place names. Look up how to pronounce the vowels in Te Reo Māori. And roll your R’s, then you should be able to pronounce them all pretty well! :). Also anything with ‘Wh’ in it is typically pronounced as ‘f’
@shiftleft

ignore pronunciation, just try your best. Some Maori try to make you feel bad about saying things, yet they have all sorts of problems with basic English. Yous fellas, aks, etc etc

Hey guys, here's a lesson on how to eat a kiwifruit. Use your thumb to cut the skin all the way around the middle. Then twist the kiwifruit and it will break into two. Squeeze the bottom of the kiwifruit and the fruit will rise out of the skin and pop it straight into your mouth.
@nickandraychel

Kiwi fruit comes bigger than that and that makes it sweeter and don't eat it like a monkey peel it or use a spoon...if you like the skin that much save it till last ...yumyum.
