@Robert Hall it's messy and vandalized, sure, but the bones of the structure look fairly intact and sturdy. Didn't see much mold(removable anyway) or water damage. The physical damage is mostly things easily removed and replaced - drywall, windows, ceiling tiles. Frankly, we need to start fixing old things up instead of always building new. Also, why were all these still-perfectly serviceable desks and chairs, furniture, left behind? Why aren't those things being used elsewhere? If they're gonna just let the building fall apart, why wren't those lockers/auditorium seats/light fixture/frickin' *everything* repurposed/auctioned off by this point? Seriously rage-inducing, the sheer amount of waste we see in most all of these videos.
@ermimprettysigmaphonk
@ermimprettysigmaphonk 4 жыл бұрын
Stevie Parr you need take the chairs and desk them out side and load them on trucks then get them cleaned then perp them for getting moved into a school it would take to much for to little, the lockers are concrete on or just screwed in and it would be easier to by new ones and just install them instead of having to replace the locks and would could be a lot of man hours and time to move these items, almost all of the stuff there has been vandalized and it wouldn’t be easy to perp it and fix it, now of course the light fixtures are a great idea but you need a small army of guys with a ladder and a screw driver, if they did it earlier then yes, almost everything could have been saved but right now the school will just stay there.

I’ve heard this kind of news all my life so I view it as just another day of news as many other people around here. It’s tragic that these situations happen and even more so that people become so numbed out after hearing the same news stories for so long.

It's always weird seeing an abandoned school. There's a familiarity to the hallways and classrooms. Thousands of kids went there, sat in those courtyards, laughed, listened to music, walked the halls and learned in those classrooms. They played sports in that gym, had assemblies and put on shows in that theatre. They proudly walked across that stage during graduation. On some distant shelves there are yearbooks signed by friends and classmates, with pictures capturing the school very much alive. You can almost hear their voices echo through the years. Now it's left to decay and vandalism. No matter the real world circumstances of the closure, it's always somehow just plain wrong that such a place is left unoccupied.

We've got an Abandoned school in my area too. It was specifically for grade 8 and 9 kids, but a dwindling youth population here meant that they were relocated to the local High School. I wonder how it's doing; it's been abandoned since 2013, so about a year less than this building?

Northland was build as the World's Largest Shopping Center around 60 years ago and had dozens of expansions making for a real interesting floor plan. There's an employees-only underground level for deliveries. (I almost got to see it.) You'd see the site of an abandoned Macy's, (one-time World's Largest) JC Penny, Montgomery Wards, Target, etc.

Hey Jake! Thanks for another great video. An urban farm, which we have a few of here in my state, is usually when a building with a lot of square footage is used to grow crops hydroponically indoors as well as on the roofs. It also takes a huge amount of power to feed the lighting systems and heat lamps used for some crops when inside. I’m guessing since this building is so massive and had the potential to support the infrastructure for that kind of endeavor, thats why they considered it for that! The fireworks btw sounded like you were in some post-apocalyptic dystopia hiding from the rif raf. Very unnerving. Haha

I live in West Bloomfield Michigan, and as soon as you cross the border from Waterford MI, to Pontiac Mi you see a HUGE change. You can see beautiful Lake houses, then literally a 5 minute drive later and your already in the bad part of town. Same with Detroit and Royal Oak MI. I sadly think this is the main reason my school is such a diverse school because there are almost, if not any Pontiac schools left so the residents come to WBHS. There are also a ton of these schools in southeastern Michigan just to some of these communities with very little money. Luckily I’ve seen the old abandoned Pontiac high school redo the outside of it and seen the graffiti being getting rid of. So hopefully these communities can really start to revamp their areas.

Noone can. It's like a Trainwreck in slow motion. I never been too Detroit myself but if I am reading the Comments right. The City is bankrupt, the Local Government is currupt, and the Police (as far as I can tell) is practically, non-existent. How can a city as massive like Detroit turn around? I bet that Trump, and the Federal Government are not welling to 'waste' Tax payer money on reviving Detroit. Unless, Corporations begin to move back, or invest in the areas. (It's unlikely since Gangs rule everywhere across Detroit.) So if Detroit wants to become a great City again, it has to come from within. Maybe, the handfull of good people still left can..oh say...vote out the corrupt scum bags from Office, and bring in some fresh face people. Then a MASSIVE Reconstruction effort would need to take place. Mainly, Revitalizing the Abandoned Neighborhoods, Schools, Businesses, Malls, eta too bring in money, tourists, and most importantly, JOBS! After all that is done. Then restoring the Police Force would need to happen ASAP to protect what was already done. Otherwise, everything would start going down hill again. So that's what I think NEEDS to happen, to make Detroit great again. Or they well continue to go down the path there on. It's really up to the people who live in Detroit to recover from...this.
