Ga and Notre Dame are so much alike and much respect to ND and I'm a GA fan but much respect to ND they are coached well
@danielhruskocy162418 күн бұрын
My favorite thing about Marcus Freeman is that he is putting truth to the lies that were Brian Kelly. Kelly was whining and saying that he did not have the resources to compete and win championships, so he had to bail and head to LSU, which he is steadily driving into the same level of high-level mediocrity that he did to ND. HCMF is a rising star in coaching and is custom made for the college game. I truly believe he is destined to be the next great coach at Notre Dame and I believe it started on the day they lost that game to NIU and the change in Freeman is obvious. He took the ND job, one of the most pressure-packed jobs in sports, with ZERO head coaching experience and it showed at the start and in some mind-numbing defeats, but the response post-NIU (10 straight dominating wins and a team that continues to improve weekly) is really something to see. I was too young for Ara and Devine, but I remember Holtz-era clearly and this ND team is the best since 1993.

@@CarlCramer88 ND can lose - if Leonard makes some really bad throws and turns it over 2-3 times, outside of that, this game is all Notre Dame every day of the week and twice on Sunday. ND has the defensive team speed to be in the same discussion with both Michigan and Ohio State. I watched those IU games this year and fully expect to see the rally-to-the-ball, solid tackling and overall sound defense to show up. USC WRs are a class and a half better than IUs and the QB is also similarly less gifted. I expect a game that is close at half and breaks ND's way in the 3rd quarter and ends in a 2 score win for the Irish.

IU is the one of the best draws that ND could have gotten IMO. I’m glad we avoided playoff Dabo and SMU can throw the ball. ND struggled against the only 2 teams on the schedule who could throw (Louisville and USC). I think this game comes down to Freeman and Leonard. Freeman got out coached at least 4 times in 2023. He’s bounced back very nicely in 2024, but as a former Chargers fan and someone who watched a lot of Marty Schottenheimer, even great coaches can fold in a playoff setting. For example, I think field position and the turnover margin will determine the game. How aggressive will Freeman be? He’s been very successful on 4th down conversions, but he’s had some high profile failures where he gave the opposing team major momentum. On Leonard: Indiana is one of the best run stoppers in the country. They are also top 5 in turnover margin. I think the key to winning this game is Leonard making plays with his feet. If he can get some chunk runs via scramble, I think it will open up the entire offense. Bottom line: This is a very winnable game. So much so, that if they lose, it’s a ND choke job. If they win, I think it’s a major achievement for Freeman. Cignetti, although an egomaniac, is a very good coach. If Freeman wins, it means he’s held his own or better and that would give us all a ton of confidence going into the Sugar Bowl vs UGA.

So IU is a great draw but you struggle against good passing teams? Rourke can sling it if he has time and IU runs it better then SMU/Louisville. Go back to the NIU game... The ONE TD scored by NIU came on a fluke play - busted coverage, safety misplaying the slant trying for INT and leaving no one in the back level... Leonard's INT at the end was mystifyingly bad too. But say that TD never happened. I believe ND wins that game 14-9 (NIU was NOT getting into the endzone otherwise, despite an overall sluggish and bad performance from the entire ND team that day); and the team goes unbeaten (that can be debated given the way the team played post-NIU wake up, but I believe it would have been 12-0). Without that ONE PLAY, ND is sitting at 12-0, ranked #1, seeded #5 and major favorites to get to the Championship game as well. Leonard, flaws and all, is very likely in NYC this weekend picking up ND's 8th Heisman as the QB of THAT team and THIS school and the stories are completely different. Notre Dame would be getting doubted by the usual haters and people with an agenda of course, but the team would have a different feel. I remember 2012 like it was yesterday.... Kelly's third year, undefeated season, several close calls and miracle wins (Stanford, Pitt for sure, OU was tied 13-13 late too)... That defense FELT like it was good, but in retrospect it was plodding and slow and did not LOOK like the 2024 defense, which in my mind is much closer to the '88-'93 levels of overall speed and plain nastiness than anything since. It's not the running game, or Love or Leonard or Price that I am most confident in - its a defense under Al Golden that has looked the part in every game with the exception of the NIU and that one damn play that allowed them to get into the endzone at all. There is a noticeable difference in this ND team defense and he expectation that people retain from Brian Kelly's best record years. I would take THIS ND team to beat 2012, 2018 and 2020 teams every time. It starts in 10 days with the kickoff against IU and then taking care of business for the following 60 minutes of gametime. Must take those steps in order though.
