There are single layer kevlar jeans that stretch. The kevlar is woven into the denim, so you don't get the extra heat insulation from having multiple layers of fabric on. I wear mine a lot just because they're comfy.

I had the same issue with gear on my dirtbike for YEARS, I was afraid I couldn’t have the same senses with my hands and feet. I took my riding boots and gear and wore it for 2 hours each day for a week and now I’m just as good and twice as confident with my riding boots on and mx boots are way stiffer than street boots, however I totally understand where your Coming From man. Respect…… problem lies when the youth watches You and looks up to you and in a way taught to follow what you do…. Either way great content keep it up. Precisely, just gotta have some sense and TRY to be safe, and you'll get the feel for it rather quickly. I didn't think I'd be able to ride with my gear on because it felt so heavy at first, then after two rides it all broke in and felt amazing. I would never ride without my gear now. For somebody who has wrecked so much like he has, it's pretty stupid to not wear it. It'll eventually catch up to him...

The k my problem with that is the more squids without gear go down and scramble their brains, the more our insurance rates go up, because the costs to pay claims goes up. It’s the same with seatbelts in cars and the health insurance debate. It would be different if these squids ONLY affected themselves, but they don’t. They make it harder on the rest of us.
@derp195
@derp195 Жыл бұрын
@Tha Ginger Ninjer Insurance companies make an insane profit. A kid getting brain damage and collecting a payout is nothing compared to the absolute scam of an insurance system we have in the US. But even that aside, I don't think that insurance rates are a sufficient reason for taking away autonomy. If someone wants to risk scrambling their brains because they want to live a certain way, the idea that a company might try to charge me more isn't really a valid argument to restrict them. You could ultimately make the exact same argument about motorcycles in general. They're more dangerous, and when motorcyclists get hurt, they raise people's premiums, so shouldn't we just ban motorcycles? Sure, there are drawbacks to letting people do certain things, but unless it's causing other people undue risk, I will pretty much always err on the side of letting adults make their own decisions and avoiding laws that are meant to act like our parents.
@thagingerninjer5391
@thagingerninjer5391 Жыл бұрын
@@derp195 saying insurance is a scam is asinine. You tell that to anybody that has ever had to bury their significant other, while also having to worry about how they are going to make their mortgage, because they haven’t worked for forty years, and depended on their spouse to be there. You tell that to the kid who gets cancer’s family, who not only have to watch their child slowly die, while also dealing with travel costs for treatment, treatment costs, time off work, etc. I agree that the instance and healthcare system in the United States needs to be completely replaced with the extremely successful healthcare systems found in every other industrialized country on the planet, but what we have is not a scam. It does a lot of good for a lot of people. What I meant by my comment is that squids getting more hurt, because they’re too stupid to wear gear affects us all, and why would we not mitigate the risks to our families in having to pay more, by telling someone else they have to not be idiots, and protect themselves, thus protecting us? Again, it’s the same reason we have seatbelt and helmet laws. It’s the same reason you’re not allowed to go murder anyone you want. Your autonomy ends when it directly affects others, and those that wish to participate in a civilized society can follow the rules, or not have access to the benefits of that society, like having roads and utilities.
@derp195

@Tha Ginger Ninjer I didn't say insurance is a scam, I was criticizing specifically our model of legally required for-profit insurance. @@Charlesbjtown Bicycle helmets may reduce a person's risk of a head or brain injury by up to 88 percent and after helment laws were put in place in 1999 there was a 20% decrease in bike-related fatalities among people younger than 16. It's almost like we learn over time that certain things we did when we were younger were not safe. Cough Lawn darts Cough. You know that bike helmets dcrease risk, same as gear on motorcycles. Adults can decided what level of risk they are comfortable with as everyday life is nothing but calculated risks. Personally, I lean towards caution when it comes to gear, riding is already a very risky activity and add on top of it I like to ride aggressively so any risk reduction I can get while still riding the way I enjoy seems like a no brainer.

Look, I get it. The tactile feel of a bike without gear (just a helmet, not even gloves) is absolutely amazing. It feels great to ride short distances and hoon it, but if you're riding for longer, gear becomes way more comfortable. There's tactile disadvantages obviously; you can't really feel levers or your grips through gloves, it takes a lot of work to break in boot enough to feel the rear and shift lever, it's a lot of work... But I still ATGATT even for short stints because I want to survive in 1 piece. I used to ride without leggings and boots for years but here in rainy Ireland, if I got caught in rain, I'd be drenched. Means to an end. Plus, if I came off without gear, I'd be wanting to ride the bike even more knowing I cant for a while due to injuries.

I had a armored mesh jacket, gauntlet gloves and riding shoes. I'm 200 pounds and all my weight pushed hard into the pavement, shredded the armor and gloves but it all held. Zero chance I would have kept my arms, skin, muscle, bone would have been torn away. EMT said he sees so many guys bones half gone and skin and muscle hanging off like ripped cloth. It ALWAYS makes sense to wear gear, period. You can say you're not this kind of rider, it's too hot, w/e the excuse, but it's bullshit. It sets a horrible example for new riders, or anyone even on the fence of wearing gear. It gets over 100 where I live and I wear full gear every ride, and it's not even close to being bad 99% of the time. If you don't want to keep your skin, be able to function properly or eat on your own, that's on you, but to say "It doesn't make sense" or "You're not on my level" is ridiculous man, just promote gear so everybody can make SMARTER DECISIONS and be able to enjoy their lives if they do wreck. You either do 20 mph wheelies or go 170 on the interstate while swerving between cars. Riders who do that are the ones who need gear the most, and nobody said you had to wear full leathers either, there's gear for all types of riders and conditions. Blows my mind hearing all the excuses people make to not wear it, but whatever it's your choice. Next time you might not have road rash, it might just shred your arm to the bone, then what?

At one point gear can only do so much. Gear won't do much when it all goes wrong at 140mph. Plus even with all the gear, Kevlar and all, your hips and pelvis will still get injured, seen it a lot working in Cat Scan at a trauma center. So basically, the crazier you drive the more something could happen. But so help me it is so fun to do 150mph down the hwy on my FZ1 every once in awhile...lol, and no I can't and don't want to do wheelies. It all comes down to personal choices and people need to leave each other alone.

oh yes, It happens to the best of us. I'm 47, been riding since I could basically walk. Rode motocross for years, then got into sportbikes as a teen. That first track day put things into perspective for me. Making turns on the highway around a Tundra or Expedition is a LOT different than going into a turn with an experienced rider. They just knew how to brake better, how long to hold the throttle, etc. It was an eye opener - at least that was my experience.

Jason, what riding gear will help that situation to not happen? Personally I think safety gear is pushed like it will protect more than scraped skin. I guess one of those blow up vests could help stop bones breaking but regular jackets won't. All they do is stop road rash. Boots can help with keeping toes not getting scraped off but if a person wants to feel the bike better for what they are doing it's a risk vs. reward decision they need to make.

Kevlar jeans with integrated knee pads, are a thing. Nobody can even tell. Why can't you wear a jacket again? Good riding boots have as much feel as vans. Short sleeves are the worst thing you can wear in the heat. I'm in Arizona. It will be 112 today. I wear gear every single day. Shade works no matter how close it is. Short sleeves in the heat is like a tourist thing because they don't understand how the sun works.

@@TheConstitutionState Lol...you're the people I'm referring to. Drive around Arizona and count the number of construction guys wearing short sleeves. That number is zero. My company doesn't even offer short sleeve shirts because you'll definitely get heat stroke. Office workers also ride motorcycles but they don't understand how the sun works so they ride around in the middle of summer with maximum skin exposed and then they cry that it's too hot to ride in the summer so they park the bike for 6 months out of the year. Why did you think the middle easterners always wore clothing from head to toe? For style? lmao...squids man, I swear... Squids in Arizona will see me walk in to a business in my full gear, take off my jacket and have zero sweat in 115 degrees and they can't believe it. I was in the shade my whole ride while they were baking in their short sleeve shirt and shorts with flip flops on lmao...

I always try to have something on, like a jacket, I always wear gloves, although cruiser gloves, not sport gloves, and lately I've taken to wearing leather over-the-ankle boots, although they aren't motorcycle boots. I have a mesh jacket with some armor in it, that I usually don't wear. I don't wear actual gear because a) it is too goddamn hot and b) it's too goddamn expensive.

He hit a tree head on at 50 mph and killed him on impacted. My other friend went down at 190 In full gear and he slid down the road for quarter mile and he didn’t have a scratch. I mean technically you’re correct. But at the same time, we as riders aren’t suppose to keep hitting things. Gear is meant to protect you WHEN falling off the bike. The problem is, most motorcycle accidents and deaths (literally over 90%) is us running into shit. I guarantee if your friend didn’t have gear on sliding down that road he would’ve lost more then just skin. (Sorry about the lost of your friend)
