His work in and out of the ring is perfect for that role. Rey at 27 had already been among the best in-ring lucha style wrestlers in history, suffered a knee injury from which he'd never fully recovered to this day (the ceiling of that man's talent was seemingly limitless), and was in Heartland after a stint in Mexico following the end of WCW. He even became the world champion five years later for Vince, a guy who despised pushing wrestlers shorter than 6'3"

Rey has every right to be proud of Dom. Because in reality, the trajectory that Dom is on right now? He's on his way to be one of the most accomplished Superstars in the business come ten years give or take. He's actually surpassed his dad in character work a while ago. Sure in ring talent wise Rey beats him any day and every day but that can be improved. That talent to commit to that character on such a personal level? To that point that in the day of social media where everyone has a camera in their pocket and yet we've yet to see Dom break Kayfabe irl? That's pretty amazing. He's the hottest heel in the business and he's just improving. I'm just hoping that Dub doesn't fumble the ball with him like they did with Miz and keep him mostly as a comic heel. He eventually needs to become Ruthless and Cunning as a heel not just cocky and stupid. I have high hopes for Dom in the future of this business.
