This film was shot on 8mm film using a Bolex camera - it won an award in 1965 when it was taken and was finally released to mark the unfortunate closing of the Odeon Cinema in Nottingham. The Odeon was the first multi-screen cinema in the UK.

Thank you for uploading this..... I grew up in Nottingham through all the 70's & 80's and left in 89 and I haven't been been back once since...... Since seeing your upload I've decided to go back and have a look at my old stomping grounds.... Bless you

The 3 I remember from Nottingham are The Savoy, Odeon and ABC. I watched Superman, Star Wars and 2001 at the Savoy in the days where the films were in two parts and the usherettes sold ice cream in little tubs and Butterkist toffee popcorn.

I am not a Nottingham man but I'm delighted to have found this video the Odeon was their prototype twinning exercise note the Cinemacchanica projectors and solid state amplification then state of the art.Nice also to see the old old ABC symbol. Futurists were once an important second run chain now sadly long gone. This film is of,great value Thankyou for sharing it

I've been told here were 50 cinemas in Nottingham by WW2 or maybe just after and each suburb would have at least one local cinema. People moved had different habits then. Even today there's many repurposed old cinemas in the suburbs and its always interesting to come across them. I remember a couple of years ago when a homeless person froze to death in the doorway of the old Odeon on Angel Row, just round from where I was staying.

Thats great, My mums Grandparents ran the pub in the 50s. In recent years she searched for a picture and info on the pub, but never found anything. She sadly passed away a couple of years ago and would have loved the clip of the Golden Key.

Great memories from the Nottingham odeon - when Ghostbusters came out in the 80s there was a cue stretching past the library wasy past the toy shop. I liked the ABC better though - I saw Jaws there in 1977.

I was born in the 70s, not the 60s! Oops. Walked down Angel Row today and saw the fading outlines of the "ODEON" sign where the cinema was, up there against the concrete. Was quite striking after seeing this video.

Cinema In Nottingham as everywhere and much else is sadly going the way of shopping, highjacked by the great God Internet. We'll ALL soon be sat in our little cells, waiting for life to pass us by.

I asked the question on the Nottingham forum and someone was good enough to respond and to also post a photo of the pub. You might like to check it out - the link is in the video description as I'm unable to post it here.

Ironic that the clip discusses the magic of the projectionist and their cuts whilst the video has some awful audio edits. Lol

Pity about squashing 4:3 into widescreen. Quite barbaric for a cinephile.
