I'll be forever grateful I was a 90's kid, proud to be of the MTV generation 😆 For all it's faults, it gave me the gift of discovering bands I would otherwise never have, thanks to programs like 120 minutes and many others. I was a hard Slayer/Sepultura/Metallica fan when this came out. It was this year that my tastes started to change. I began to listen to more Pink Floyd, Ozric Tentacles, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy and of course Portishead to name a few. Sometimes being fixed into one scene makes you miss so much. Luckily some music breaks the barriers and forces you to listen. And it's usually worth it.

Her voice is heavenly. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a song that resonates within me so completely. I feel the heartbreak and know the depths that it reaches inside of me absolutely. It is a longing knowing that the battle rages on while losing so much of all things to it, whether it be people, hopes, aspirations and time. Losing touch with all of those and not allowing yourself a great many things knowing that the easy way was to take the outs instead of continuing to fight and then one day waking up and realizing that those things have passed is a deeply tough experience to swallow. Knowing that those are gone and I am now closer to the end than the beginning I fight on as there isn’t another choice truly available in any sense of the terms.

Wow, it's 10 years ago that I uploaded this video. Back then Portishead wasn't so well known (in my town anyway), and uploading purely for the sake of sharing good music. And look at the views now! Amazing. Thank you Portishead and thank you all that spent time on this track. One world, one love.

The Internet was invented for gems like this song, I am sure of it. It's such a blessing. Please never take it down. Thank you Portishead for providing this 'soundtrack to life' song. Its ageless theme and timeless sound combine to make a work of art.

You can download the video (and any video on youtube) using a small application called dvdvideosoft (or any other youtube downloads application), that you can download for free. It also allows you to convert the videos to mp3, in case you're only interested in the sound.

Absolutely love it.. many years later and it still gives me goosebumps! I remember the day I first heard Portishead, playing in a weird lil shop in a side street somewhere in downtown Orlando.. back in 1998.. I was working in the US for a year from hometown Johannesburg, South Africa. I remember the smell of the shop, the assistance behind the counter and even some of the goods on the counter (smiley face pinups!) .. this music was and is part of so many days in my life!

I love that music supersedes race. Some of my favorite videos are of different races discovering music outside of their "normal" realm of what they would listen to. And almost everytime they fall in love. Most music does this, just have to be willing to actually listen and let it take ahold of you.

I often remember past times by the feeling in the air. It fascinates me to think that despite photos etc we can never know that feel of the atmosphere in history. You’re right, the 90s had a quality, even though they were somehow less well known than the 80s.

Beth Gibbon’s voice has always made me feel at home. She has a way of drawing you in so that you are so undeniably connected to her consciousness that you start to forget yourself. It’s a unique form of intimacy that she shares with you freely. I experience this with some musicians and their instruments, but she captures it in a way that is beyond anyone else.

"Aristotle taught that viewing tragic plays gave people emotional release (katharsis) from negative feelings such as pity, fear, and anger. By watching the characters in the play experience tragic events, the negative feelings of the viewer were presumably purged and cleansed. This emotional cleansing was believed to be beneficial to both the individual and society." -That's how this ruse of pity and glamorization of one's grief can be described.
