Before the tiebreaker? Wow definitely that was the pivotal turning point I guess..if Alexis had won the 3rd set the crowd support would atleast take him much closer He played. Good match When djokovic can't beat his opponents through power or defense he beats them through his experience in these pivotal moments

Against top players others playing with mindset nothing to loose. That’s why he won those points when he was down 2/5 and 0/40 at the end. And many other crazy points. Plus crowd cheering for underdog It’s always harder for top players to play against others because others coming either on fire against them or they will get beat like drums, because they don’t believe they can beat them. Just enjoy how crazy good Djoko, Fed, Nadal and Alcaraz play when they winning easily or when they finding way how to win. And sometimes they have bad days too. Credit to players which can turn it around and start beating them consistently.

Nadal is 11 months older than Novak , you silly fool. He would have gotten smoked in the 2022 Australian open quarter finals against Novak the same way he was smoked last time they met in the Australian open. Nadal hasn't won a set against Novak on Hard courts in over a decade. If Nadal thought he had a shot to win the Australian open he would be playing. Last time he played against Novak at the Australian open, he barely won games, let a long a set. clay court specialist Nadal avoided playing against Federer and Djokovic on hard courts to maintain a better H2H record against his rivals. it worked against Federer, even though everyone knows when it comes to Grass and Hard court, Nadal is not even in the top 5.

I mean tbf Novak's game is mostly about forcing errors from his opponent, so it's true that he's not the best "highlight reel" player. IMO he's a tennis player's player. His movement, his depth, his consistency on his backhand -- none of these things really translate to crazy highlights in a run of the mill second round game.

Novak, the GOAT... it seems someone in the crowd throw bad tantrums at Novak during the match (as per the press conference) why crowd behave like this? why media behave like this? IF Novak born in USA, by this time many Cities/Streets will be named under his name.... Shame on the Media and shame on the foolish fans who follow those media

Etcheverry is playing good and I’m worried that djokovic will need to spend too much energy to win. He needs to have some quick matches so he can save his energy for Sinner.

Djokovic obviously is the GOAT, but playing like this, he won't make it past Etcheverry. IMO, he's slated to face the best Americans (South and North) in the next 2 rounds, and if he's still under the weather, he's not gonna be able to deal with Etcheverry's rock solid game -- powerful, accurate groundstrokes; great net game; few unforced errors. I think Etcheverry and Shelton are both near-future top 12-15 players -- guys like Ruud and Fritz and Paul and Stef don't have a chance vs Novak, while both of those guys are young, agile, and strong enough to pose a threat -- and unscarred by trauma of losing. If he makes it past Etcheverry and is still feeling the wrist issue, he won't be able to deal with and reflect Shelton's raw power. But if he makes it past those two with an intact wrist, you can book his spot in the final. He'll be over his flu/cold and battle tested like no other. Despite looking vulnerable, dude is still the king everywhere except Roland Garros and Spanish clay. Will be interesting to see his R3 and R4 matches -- high drama due to his current form, compared to his imperious form last year.

Definitely not new. I've seen that narrative and generally disagree, but it looks *different* here. Clearly you didn't see the AO last year -- or don't remember it. Man wiped the floor with everyone, and dropped only ONE set (in R2, in a close tiebreak) the whole way. His wins were not 6-4, either -- mostly 6-0, 6-1, 6-2. Made then-20th de Minaur look like top-1000, made Dimi look washed, made everyone look like absolute garbage. Never really looked in trouble, while he's looked on the verge of elimination in both R1 and R2. We're not getting that Djoko this AO -- at best, something like USO 2023 Djoko, who didn't astound but played well enough to win. Haven't seen his best since his dominant Turin semi (vs Alcaraz) and final (vs Sinner)@@mauroger86

Novak “the soul snatcher” Djokovic. It’s my new nickname for him. Every time he saves set points and match points to win the set or match, he steals souls. ☝️😎

I know that by judging by the highlights it would seem like Popyrin had won the match with how much more his shots were featured. But I've come to realize that the problem with Djokovic not making highlight reels isn't that he's boring. It's just because the most entertaining shots are the ones where the other player has to do things outside his comfort zone in order the win points. And Djokovic has always been too good to have to perform "desperate" shots in order to win.

Even though this was a 4 setter but this was an easy match for Novak. Alexi was way too passive in pressure points. Even if he got as far as match point he would have never been able to finish the point. Alexi couldn’t close the 3rd set with a 40 love advantage and a good look at 2 of those points. Novak just smiled his way through that whole process. Fortunately for Novak, this is what will always differ him from every player.

Here we go again. Seen this storyline so often in recent years. If Djokovic would have to face Sinner at this moment he would get destroyed. Recent years he really needs to grow in the tournament, as if he leeches his opponents strengths during the tournament to be (near) undefeatable from the quarters on. And by then certainly Fritz or Tstisilas won't be a threat...

I AM A NOLE SUPPORTER BUT I DON'T HAVE A LOT OF EXPECTATION TO WIN IN THIS YEAR'S AO. ANOTHER SET GONE AND HE WAS EVEN BROKEN AT THE SET 3. SHOULD THE MATCH BE vs A MORE MATURE AND AGRESSIVE OPPONENT, NOLE COULD HAVE GONE PACKING HOME. ALEXEI PLAYED A BRILLIANT MATCH. NOLE IS SERVING AS WEAK AS I NEVER SEEN FROM HIM AND IS UNABLE TO PLAY WITH POWER INTO CORNERS. IT SEEMS HIS AGE STARTED COUNTING FOR TENNIS.
