@@katerinapatiniotis5598 I seriously don't think he is. While statistically speaking he had a better year in 2015 than he did in 2011, he was way more aggressive than he was in 2015. As I said already he had the best balance of offence and defense. He certainly was more proactive in his rallies. And you also have to consider his chief rivals, Federer and Nadal were playing arguably better tennis than they are now. Rafa for instance had just come off from the previous year where had won 3 grandslams and featured in 6 finals in 2011 losing only to Novak. And Novak was still able to dominate those two in an emphatic fashion. What I liked about him in 2015 is that he seemed so much mentally stronger and more confident as result of this he was able to elevate his game when it really mattered even though I still believe he was more passive during this period.

Yeh that performance was even better than this one this one was just in a slam final and against a better version of rafa which is even more ridiculous but that match in Doha was just pure masterclass of striking a clean tennis ball moving like a machine and dominated a tennis court like no one has before. Djokovic is on his way to being the greatest of all time

@@liamholloway-sw7eu I agree on the fact that this was a grand slam final (I mean for god's sake it doesn't get bigger than this) therefore more impressive but I believe Nadal played better then than today. @komauma17506 жыл бұрын
That's because Novak is the only player who has the balls and skill to play on Nadal's forehand. So, Nadal was always expecting from Novak to place shots on his backhand while Novak was continuously placing shots at Nadal's forehand. You could see several times during the match that Nadal was starting to move to his right side expecting from Novak to play on his backhand and Novak would use backhand and play on Nadal's forehand again. Even Mats Wilander talked about that a day before finals (I think with Boris Becker) that by according to stats Novak averages 20% shots to opponents forehand if the opponent is lefty, however when playing against Nadal he averages around 60%. Basically, forcing Nadal to play his best shot and winning that way. Other players avoid that as a plague, to send balls to Nadal's forehand, but Novak is doing the opposite of what others are doing. That way he fucks up Nadal's defense. In a nutshell, Novak dismantled Nada's forehand, then Nadal's backhand and Nadal's serve. People who are saying "Nadal played bad" were not paying attention and not analyzing what was going on. Yes, Nadal was not playing that good, but he was also tactically dismantled by Novak. Of course, Novak's backhand is one of the best in tennis history, so not everyone can use that same plan to beat Nadal.
@TheNabOwnzz6 жыл бұрын
@@komauma1750 Novak always plays like that against Nadal, so it wasn't that Nadal wasn't expecting it, but his usual tactic of forehand spin to an opponents backhand just doesn't work aswell against Djokovic because his backhand can defeat Nadal's forehand in a rally with relative ease. He was simply blown away by the speed, depth and precision Nole was generating, which is why he seemed too late in his timing for so many shots. I don't really understand why Nadal didn't play his forehand down the line more, as his forehand was getting obliterated in the crosscourts.

@@TheNabOwnzz Nadal gets his convidence by getting the opponent out of position with a good cross court forehand. But against Djokovic it doesn't work (especially on hard and when Nole plays like that) because his backhand is good enough to take the ball very early and still get enough depth and power on the ball. That's why against Djokovic Nadal lacks the confidence to play more down the line and he runs out of ideas (Toni Nadal said it as well: Against Federer they have a clear strategie, against Djokovic they don't). Same in the French Open this year. When Nadal isn't able to dominate with his forehand (that includes not hitting close enough to the lines with his forehand down the line), he will have problems. Luckily for him, Djokovic is more or less the only player on the tour who can defend like that. We saw it in 2011. Nadal was destroying every opponent until the finals where djokovic beat him every single time.

@ertugrulkorpinar516 жыл бұрын
Travis Bickle just perfect execution of his gameplan . The thing what boosts Djokovics confidence the most against Djokovic is how well he can dominate Fedal from the baseline . Take this final for example Travis. It should be a misprint, but Nadal, who had won 59 per cent of his baseline points coming into the final, only won 29.5 per cent (26/88) of his baseline points against the Super Serbian. Djokovic completely dismantled Nadal’s baseline game by going hard after his forehand. Nadal had hit 100 forehand winners and 116 forehand errors to the final, but that ratio didn’t hold true against the World No. 1 on Sunday night at Melbourne Park. Nadal struck 11 forehand winners in the final, but committed 28 forehand errors as Djokovic constantly played wide through the Ad court to attack Nadal’s running forehand. The theory is simple. Nadal is the best player in the world at running around his backhand in the Deuce court and upgrading to a more potent forehand. With Nadal always looking to protect to the right, Djokovic attacked to the left. Superb from the Serbian. The first step was to break the forehand down. Then it was to double down on an overloaded backhand. Nadal had 33 backhand winners in six matches to the final, but struck just three against Djokovic while committing 21 errors. Step two accomplished. It’s exactly the same demolition sequence at every level of our sport. Break down the forehand, then the backhand, and the serve will quickly become overheated. Nadal made just 64 per cent first serves in the final, compared to 69 per cent leading into it. Nadal had won 81 per cent of first-serve points to the final, but that fell off a cliff to just 51 per cent against Djokovic. If you can break down the forehand, the backhand, and then the serve, the match sits on a platter for the taking. Everywhere Nadal turned, he found a Serbian brick wall. The Spaniard was -14 in short rallies of zero-to-four shots against Djokovic, and -15 in the longer rallies of nine-plus. Short didn’t work, and neither did long. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, he had nowhere to turn to to formulate a winning plan.

given their wimbledon semi final not long after, which was their tightest or 2nd tightest 5 set match they've ever played against each other, and grass being nadals worst surface (because of his bad knees), it shows novak's dominance was because of nadal's completely new gameplay style at the australian open, brought in because of serious injury concerns of even getting nadal to finish the tournament, his coach moya instructed nadal to play risky tennis, finishing points really quickly, serve volleying, 3 shot rallies, otherwise nadal would have to forfeit the tournament with injury. also nadal completely destroyed djokovic at the rome masters final -the tournament before this years french open which nadal also won. the moya strategy at the australian open meanwhile worked all the way up to the final, but that sort of play doesnt work against djokovic.its too offensive leaving you to vulnerable to passing shot winners, also if a player on hard court or clay court tried that gameplay style against nadal, nadal would destroy them. playing like that leaves you too vulnerable. the only way to beat novak is to play the way nadal naturally places- defensive baseline , heavy top spin game, forcing opponent into errors, and usually unleashing winners after 20-30 shot rallies. This is why the only nadal, and andy murray (when he was at his peak winning his 3 grand slams) could beat novak at a grand slam. so at wimbledon nadal had reverted to his normal standing way behind the baseline position , heavy top spin game, and he didnt win, but he almost won the wimbledon match.

None of them is the GOAT. All three of them are titanic players that can pull incredible performances, that day was just a bad one for nadal and a good one for djokovic. there were matches in their rivalry where i, as a nadal fan, was extremely disappointed that Nadal lost (Wimbledon 2018 or AO 2012 e.g.) because i felt like it could've gone the other way with missed chances in close moments and so on. There are also some matches where i was reliefed that he got it done, doesn't matter how (FO 2013 comes to mind). And there are matches that Novak plays so well, that i'm not even disappointed because i know there's nothing to be done when he's feeling it like that. Can Roger add any more big titles to his trophy cabinet? Will Djoko close the gap on Rafa and then Roger at grand slams? Will any of the young guys break through? Exciting times ahead.
