What a performance by Novak at the age of 36! Now, everyone should just take a deep breath and think how hard this is at his age! He is a different kind of a beast from all other tennis players, he is of his own kind! A mental giant and a great Master! No matter if you support him or not, all of us should put our hats off and admire his greatness! And yeah, sorry for the Alcaraz cramps, but it is a matter of someone's physical state and preparations done. It was too tough match for Alcaraz and that's why it happened. Will be better, he is young. He will have a great future. Now, hats off to Novak! As Andy Roddick once said: "He first takes your legs, then your soul." ;)

Novak has been treating his body and soul better than any other tennis player, better than most people. First two sets were intense for both. Carlos was pushing his body more than he could handle. Novak was also on the edge, but right there we can see what treatment each one of these champions are giving to their bodies. Novak has learnt that over the years, and Carlos needs to recognize when to slow. It is incredible what kind shots he manages to return into opponents field, but to be honest I dont think all of them matters that much. He is like that fastest dog in the park who will always catch the ball first even though he might break his own neck catching it :D Maybe that was part of Novak's tactic, to try exhaust him as much as he can. Huge respect for Carlos for not surrendering, and walking over. He didnt want to diminish Novak's apparent victory, even though it feels like it is diminished with this outcome. As every other tennis fan, I was hoping to see 5 hours battle, and Carlos is not quite there yet. He is demolishing pretty much every other player on tour within 3 hours TOP. But not Novak. And that is the reason why this victory Novak should celebrate like it lasted 5 hours. Cheers everyone!

I don't think you understand the game.... its not like his calf just cramped out of nowhere. Alcaraz is playing like a car being pushed to its limit, 8000 rpm revs... eventually it will blow. Novak has learnt to cruise between 4,000 and 6000 revs and not blow his engine. Carlos will learn from this and improve, but he was never going to beat novak over a 5 hour match at RG. His style is too demanding and his body is not yet ready. Even if he hadn't cramped then, he would have cramped at some point. Djoko is the master of controlled aggression, deep hitting, pace redirection and energy conservation. Alcaraz is not yet flexible enough nor does he know when to leave balls. He is a heavy mover, sprinting for every ball, hitting every ball as hard as he can. He tires himself out. If you have ever played tennis, you will know how tiring it is to hit every single serve as hard as you can, and hitting 90 moh forehand every time when your opponent (ie Novak) is just easily using your pace back at you or hitting slower balls back to you. It is not sustainable. Novak will end his career with at least 24 or 25 majors (another Aus and 2 Wimbledons) BUT Alcaraz will have an amazing career once he matures & learns to conserve energy & work on his fitness
@theawebster1505 Жыл бұрын
What injury? It is no coincidence there is no break allowed to treat cramps. It just comes down to physical conditioning in a Grand Slam 3/5 sets, for which Djokovic is better prepared and he duly won. And I love Carlos.
@Vaisin Жыл бұрын
Two of my three favourite tennis players (the other being Rafa). I always stated that Novak was the favourite to win, even if slightly, and even though Carlitos had the weapons to beat him. Still, Novak is Novak, the GOAT and a true brutal force. What Carlitos experienced today, Nole himself experienced hundreds of times, and then he overcame everything. Carlitos will surely learn from this 'cause he has the mentality and honesty to do that. Right now, the present belongs to Novak Djokovic slam-wise. Amazing inspiration.

You could feel the stress level Alcaraz had since the beginning of the match. With that and the running and the hit = cramps. Every tennis player knows that. He'll learn to relax

There is only one God of tennis and his name is Novak Dkojovic. When Alcaraz wins 22 GS, wins all the Masters and is number 1 for 350 weeks, ONLY THEN can it be said that he is close to the God of tennis.

@Senso Sinner and Rune have so much talent themselves but I do think they lack that special streak Alcaraz has. The lost 3 of Zverev, Tsitsipas and Rublev are doubtful to ever win many slams if any, even though they're successful outside of them. Medvedev is very good but not an all-court player and Ruud is pretty much the same but lacks the steady mind of Medvedev.

What you in the West have not yet understood: Novak wins because he is more intelligent than all tennis players. He wins with his head, because he knows exactly how to play with the opponent, what are his weak points.

Can we please stop making this an East-West-thing? Observing and exploiting your opponent's weaknesses is something every good player in every sport does. Novak didn't invent the concept. Yes, he's special, but primarily in other ways.

To beat Djokovic you should be able to go toe to toe with him in fitness, much like Nadal, or outhit him with flat shots with minimal unforced errors. Both will be really hard in a 5 set grand slam match. I hope Alcaraz finds a way to diminish these cramps.

It does not make sense this comment since cramps happened to him at the beginning of third set and three sets is the average lenght of matches the whole season out of GS -and he has won 10 tournaments out of GS in the last 18 months. Please, think better your comments before typing them. Plus he has won one GS with 5 matches and 4/5 sets. No sense comment, cramps came to him for an insane pressure for beating the best tennis player in history, something that a few or none have experienced before in tennis history,cuz there is only one Djokovic in history and after watching him player against Alcaraz you understand why.,

Alcaraz has got raw talent. And he's doing great for a 20 yr old young man. His all around game needs to be honed and his mental strength developed to Nadals level. I hope his coaches see that. And they need to give him tactics. This defeat can be the blueprint for them to start working on that.
