If women and men tennis prize money is based on match viewership then I would consider that as fair, even if men are payed more (more people watch mens tennis).
@Bombay16189 жыл бұрын
+roter13 You know, they once asked the male players about how they felt when women were about to paid the same. Most men gave the response, "I don't really care, as long as I get paid the same when I win." But those who objected gave your answer about time on court, which at first glance seems okay, but you don't consider that the time spent on centre court final is about 1/10th of 1 percent of a total year's court time (for male or female). I won't deny that due to just biological dimorphism between men and women, there are some tennis feats women can't pull off. Yet the difference in end results is not so apparent, such as in the WNBA, that ticket sales for the women are paltry in comparison. Men sell more tickets, but the numbers are comparable. Honestly, with the big four and its decline right now, it's an interesting time, and on the women's a bit less-so in terms of established rivalries. I think women make better ambassadors for the game. Women talk more and have more outlets (fashion lines, candy companies, etc) they can use to link to tennis, which is good for men and women. But if you don't agree with all this, ask yourself: well what now? You could try to lower women's pay, and that'd never work (it shouldn't). You could try to make them play 3/5 set at slams, but that would never work either. Billie Jean would shut you up so fast. If you were to make court-time in front of a stadium audience the only factor for being paid, then get ready for your local 12-year old girl moonball tennis marathons, except played by those who really could keep it going all day and night if they wanted to... Well maybe the problem is the men! You could try to make men play 2/3 sets at slams, but you'd get McEnroe and 10 other legends twice his age that you didn't know existed complain about breaking tradition. They'd be right. You could, make men and women play at different times or venues to maximize ticket sales. But then, when you arrived at Wimbledon to watch Nole or Rafa, you'd think to yourself, "Where did all the women go? This is supposed to be a grand-slam!" Women are being paid an equal amount now, and that can't be taken away from them, because there's no GOOD argument as to why we should change it up on them. If there were, it'd have worked, and there wouldn't have been a pay raise. I know you didn't say most of those talking points, but through the years, I've seen them in person and in media, so I thought to respond to them. Sorry. I think things are great as they are right now. I can't remember a time where (at least the stars of) the ATP and WTA seemed to get along better.
@chrisheck28319 жыл бұрын
roter13 It's not about sets played or length of sets. It's about gender equality. That's like hiring a man and a woman for the same warehouse job. The man is stronger and therefore lifts more boxes. The job description is the same. The woman does a satisfactory job. Are you going to pay the man more for doing the same job because of the volume of work he did in the same amount of time? Djokovic was not at his best at Wimby 2019 except for those tiebreaks - those were the highlights of that match. However, the AO 2012 final - the whole match - had absolutely everything in it with both players on top of their games throughout.
