If there is a video that needs a lyric video, this is it. Last year, two men walked up on my porch, pulled a gun on me, and invaded my home, threatened to kill my wife and children (and me, of course). When something like that happens, you will never ever be the same. The panic attacks, the waking up int he middle fo the night every time you hear a noise outside your home, the constant spending on new and improved security measures for your family... It doesn't go away, but instead you simply learn to deal with it. I decided that my solution was to welcome the panic attacks and then take control of the scenario that played out during that panic attack. "I'm feeling sick of trying Of trying to bury the reason I wanted to... To learn to love this feeling that's raging in my soul I've learned to love the thunder, until the sun comes back I've learned to love this rumble that haunts my mind It's never ever easy But I hold onto these lines I've learned to love this black cloud that haunts my nights..." So now when the randomly and sometimes ill-timed feelings of over-alertness come, I play any number of scenarios out in my head where the two attackers end up shot and dying on my living room floor. It's a dark and macabre scenario, but I enjoy it now. These two assholes who are going to end up in jail for the rest of their life have no control over me any longer. That dark cloud is now my friend, and this song speaks so perfectly to that that the first time I heard it I was moved to weepiness... One more reason in the pantheon of reasons that Novelists is simply one of the greatest bands to ever put out a recording. They get it. They get what music is supposed to be both musically - with that grand, epic sound, and lyrically (though the words don't always translate perfectly) - with words that are supposed to speak to the listener. These are the small things in life that help us survive it. Thanks, Novelists for a hell of a song and a great album. (By the way, your album cover was my seven year old's birthday cake this year. He's a huge fan, too, bad words and all. If you'll PM me an email address I'll send you a picture of my perfect little child with his cake.)

LYRICS Teach me to face what's lurking deep inside I'm crashing down right before you I feel broken, I feel downed With my face against the ground My heart is weighting me My icy soul is afire I'm running after bliss 'Cause I don't know what it tastes like But I'm not blaming anyone, no I'm way too much detached now Insensitive to your words And each time that I'm alone My fucking conscience tells me: "You're feeling sick of trying Of trying to bury the reason Of trying to heal the wounds in time You wanted to... To learn to love this feeling That's raging in your soul." Teach me to face what lurks within my heart I'm crashing down right before you I'm always hiding behind this smile The smile on my face So no one's gotta ask me if everythings okay Just read between the lines I'm wishing that you can see My sky ain't bluer than yours I'm way too much detached now I think I'm too far gone 'Cause each time I'm feeling lost My fucking conscience tells me: "You're feeling sick of trying Of trying to bury the reason Of trying to heal the wounds in time You wanted to... To learn to love this feeling That's raging in your soul." I'm feeling sick of trying Of trying to bury the reason I wanted to... To learn to love this feeling that's raging in my soul I've learned to love the thunder, until the sun comes back I've learned to love this rumble that haunts my mind It's never ever easy But I hold onto these lines I've learned to love this black cloud that haunts my nights

i just became a father - my wife is still in hospital and i've been listening to this song for an hour. i just hope that someday i can show this song to my son and that he feels as much energy in it as i do, because this is a very emotional moment right now and there are only a few songs that embody this atmosphere as well as this one.

Its one of those nights, alone, depressed and repeating time after time that I wont do it, that I wont cut or inflict any pain to myself. I even envisioned myself bending my knees to pray to god, to beg for guidance all while the storm keeps getting stronger. I don't know how much longer I can fight and hold hand with this darkness.
