Great guy, fellow texan'the last liberal senator from Texas ('til 2020!),and a distant relative of mine (my great-great grandmother was a Yarborough). My neighbor and her daughter went to D.C. in the mid-sixties,and he PERSONALLY showed them around the capitol, and they said he couldn't have been nicer or more gracious. He and Jim Wright were the only members of the presidential party who were shown openly weeping publically on 11-22-63

Very interesting! I've always found this guy's history amazing for his time! I even though he would have been a better vp for kennedy as a tx rep but obviously would have been considered a radical ticket i guess, but what do you mean til 2020 i live in tx and sadly no progressives i saw on the ballot for congress, senate, and obviously president last i voted :( sema hernandez was completely ignored by all in the senate primary.

I hope that Yarborough and Connelly eventually reconciled. If these 2 men had not been feuding, JFK would have had no need to come to Texas in November of 1963, and might have lived out his life without being brutally murdered on the streets of Dallas.

We don't blame LA for Bobby Kennedy or Memphis for MLk so why did we do it for Dallas?

this is the reason why [and I was THERE, reading the press in Dallas, and following the mood of the city hour by hour day by day]: the reason: the mood in Dallas built up by the extreme right wing was toxic. The city was a boiling cauldron of hatred for Kennedy and every good thing he stood for. From the clergy, to the scurrilous press, to the civic leaders, to the leaders of the Republican party, Dallas was a powder keg of discontent and hysteria, and HAD BEEN FOR THREE YEARS. In that environment, the weak mind of Lee Harvey Oswald was inserted. The result we all know.

+Clyde James What did this loner and deranged pro-Moscow transplant have to do with Dallas?

Ralph Yarborough, super honest and decent liberal senator from Texas for 13 years had this to do with Dallas: Dallas is in Texas, and Yarborough was elected THREE TIMES from Texas, including once just 3 months after voting FOR THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT, thus redeeming the honor of our state in the era of vicious racism.

+Clyde James Oops . . . Sorry I was referring to Oswald.

+Fairfaxcat I would add, however, that Dallas and institutional racism had nothing to do with this assignation. Conspiracy theories AND the Manchester ("Death of a President" author) narrative that racism and regionalism created a climate that somehow contributed to this crime have been largely discredited.

Clyde James that's pretty funny ... It was the liberal democrats that worked closely with mossad to murder JFK. Sure the conservatives were upset about the integration of strangers into their schools ...yet no "Republicans" were implicated in his murder.
