Kylian Mbappé Don’t start a “your favorite president isn’t a good president” argument. American presidents can be as troublesome as saying “your candidate is a bad candidate.” People will love or hate every president. ‘I love Lincoln for his abolitionist policy’ ‘I hate Lincoln for his abuse and extension of the power of the executive during his terms.’ ‘I love FDR because he successfully navigated the USA through WW2.’ ‘I hate FDR because he told the US that he would send no young Americans to die in Europe, yet 400,000 never returned to America.’ You can’t argue the best presidents because it is still politics and it therefore depends on what people value.

@efulmer86754 жыл бұрын
The two parties, Republicans and Democrats, tended to sit much closer to each other in the 60s than they did towards the far end of their side of the spectrum. This led to great cooperation projects like the Space Race because going too radical meant either 'turning Grey (fascist)' or 'turning Red (communist)' and obviously neither of those would be helpful for a political career during the Cold War. The two parties really began to diverge during and after Reagan because of the same forces that got Reagan elected also began drawing the Republican party out towards its radical wing. The Democratic party then just followed the pressure pulling it towards its own radical end. This process then got doubly reinforced after the Tea Party movement in the 2010s and here we are. Two parties hellbent on destroying the other, perpetually locked into a stalemate with 49% of the vote and completely unable to agree. JFK, if he were around today, probably would not *have* a party because they've both moved so far from where they started in 1960.

I got chills listening to this JFK speech. No President since JFK has captured the attention of the American people. He was a rock star.

One of the best presidents ever. A brave man who had a great vision for our country, who's life was cut short by a coward. This country could really use another man like him right now, but unfortunately none appear on the horizon.

I agree on that (even though I am not an American myself). Kennedy was the "hope" of freedom and a re-birth or even re-education on how to be friends and better deal with each other in tough situations.

Wow! Here I sit in Moscow, Russia, not carring much about Texas or The States... and yet I get the shivers from this speech. In our time when one great nation is run by pretty much a dictator and another great nation - by an arrogant clown, this video looks almost like a fairy tale - how can this be that a leader of a nation asks his people to find strength not in hatred and fear but in a friendship, belief and search of a better future, making of a better future? This is a kind of leadership this world is so desperetly in need right now.

The picture quality on this is great. I don’t get the same feeling of looking at a really old reel that you get when watching some of these. You can see the details on the presidential seal, the faces have good color to them and don’t seem like the film has distorted them somewhat. Great speech and glad it has been preserved so well!

There's something cool in how JFK turns around and leaves immediately after finishing his speech, without even taking a look at people applauding him. But it is almost as if he was fighting a fear of public speaking during his whole speech, and once finished he was like "That's it, job done, I'm leaving."

A masterclass in rhetoric. My favorite speech of all time. Pericles funeral oration, Demosthenes's Phillippics, Cicero's orations, Pope Urban II speech in French calling for the first crusade, Lincoln at Gettysburg and FDR on December 7th this is right up there.

Holy crap what a great speech!!!! Man alive could JFK give a speech!! He had a way that really inspired people. My father became a teacher in 1960 because of him. He made people care about their country and fellow man. A little different from Trump?

Fun Fact Alan B. Shepherd did the first ballistic flight to space approx 15 min of flight time. So by the time president Kennedy was giving this speech United States of America had something about 20 min space flight experience.

This is probably the greatest speech held by any president in any country ever. Remember when political leaders strived for aquiring more knowledge instead of power? What a Leander he was.

About 15 years ago, I was in a graduate course about leadership and several of us were assigned to make a group presentation about the leadership situations in the film "Apollo 13 ". The very opening of our presentation was showing the last 30 seconds of the speech about "the greatest adventure on which man has ever embarked. "The audience was dazzle her professor was so enthralled, he was smiling and said "you all get 100s!" I still smile little bit choked up just thinking about it. Such an inspirational address!
