November 29 2023 - Hollyoaks - James & Ste

Lucas receives a text from Dillon saying he'll see him at football, which leads him to tell James he can't go to school as he's sick. James is sceptical but Ste sticks up for Lucas, despite James saying it's a lie. They later argue about Lucas, as James thinks Lucas is manipulating Ste and Ste keeps falling for it. Lucas overhears and leaves the house, and Ste tells James to make an effort with Lucas and go after him. James catches up with Lucas, tells him he cares and asks him what's behind the lies. Lucas blurts out that it's because of Dillon, then follows it up by saying Dillon is bullying him, which Ste overhears. James later tells Ste they need to tell the school but Ste says that he's dealing with it his way...

I do think that Ste is a good dad, but he really is letting his kids play him like a fiddle. He looks away at things too many times when it's clear they are feeding him a big fat baloney. I wonder if Lucas is scared to be around Dillion because he's romantically interested in Dillion or because he's jealous of the way that Dillion is completely true to himself and is honest about who he is while Lucas clearly isn't. I know there is supposed to be some kind of relationship, though not sure what kind of relationship. It could be a romance, a friendship, or a friendship, where one of them wants it to be a romance, but it's not. Honestly, this version of Lucas reminds me of a mix of Craig, young Ste, and a tiny bit of Brendan.

I think it's sweet that James refuses to stand by and keep quiet while he sees Lucas manipulating and taking advantage of Ste.

Had a thought, I know that Ste wants to go all protective daddy bear on Dillion for apparently bulling Lucas. Even though Dillion is doing nothing of the kind. Does Ste who has done a lot of harm to that family with his own bs a few years back. Does Ste really think it's ok to go all eye of the tiger on Dillion instead of either talking to the school or Misbah calmly? I also wonder if James is going to start to figure out the reason that Lucas doesn't want to be around Dillion is because he's interested in him as a crush.
