Leah tells James she knows that he arranged for Brent to be beaten up and that she wants a new phone or she'll tell Ste. She later asks him for money for a school trip. Ste misinterprets James's generosity towards Leah and Lucas, which makes James feel guilty. James later tells Leah and Lucas that in return for a monthly allowance, they'll forget they know about what he did and give him and Ste alone time whenever he wants it, starting that evening. While alone together, Ste opens up to James about how he fears for Lucas because of the behaviour he's showing and again James feels guilty for keeping secrets from him. Lucas deliberately interrupts James and Ste's evening in together, making it clear to James that he isn't done blackmailing him...

Honestly, James is a pretty terrible stepparent. Feels like he doesn't want the kids around EVER. Sorry, but when you marry someone who's got children, you gotta accept they'll be part of your life now.

Well, before this stupid blackmail plot we had never had a scene with James, Ste and the kids all in the same room in the 2+ years Stames have been together and later married , so we haven't exactly seen James wanting or not wanting the kids around....we haven't seen anything at all.

@@frances7945 I think from what we've seen it's very clear James hasn't made any effort with Ste's kids. Even Leah, who before the blackmail hadn't done anything wrong. Look, in this blackmail plot all parties are in the wrong. I'm not saying Leah and Lucas are behaving at all. Ste definitely needs to set some boundaries and stop turning a blind eye due to his own guilt about their childhood. But you gotta remember that this is a feud between two teenagers (one only 14) and a 37-year-old-man. Who completely acts like a child most of the time.

I can’t stand these two together James constantly treats Ste like shit and with John Paul back if he and Ste get closer then the love can resurface which I can definitely see happening and John Paul and Ste will be back together
