So helpful to see how you use the paper planner and the google calendar in harmony with each other. In my forever long search for planning tools and methods that work for me I tend to try to be all analog or all digital but you show the answer may be in the middle, use the best of both. Very helpful to see it in action. Plus, I love the idea of finishing a draft then sitting down with the Truby book and going through it thoroughly. Then tackle a rewrite. Great way to make sure the story is as strong as can be. So many helpful and valuable practices you shared today. Writing every day. As you say, thats the center of it all. Well done! Thanks, Nani!

Thank you, Mike! I’m so glad you find it’s helpful. I almost didn’t post this video, I was worried about it would be too boring. Hahah! But I love to talk about planning since it’s such huge part of our life. I’m also happy you like my writing process. I’m making a more in-depth video about this process, a more organized one. It’s always great to discuss these passions of ours with you! 😊 thank you!

@@NaniLiYang Wow, that must be a fun coffee shop to visit, but I'm from Toronto :(. I once tried writing in a coffee shop but prefer writing in the public library. Of course, nothing makes me feel more comfortable than my writing area at home. I haven't finished any scripts yet with 10 ideas in my mind; it makes me think my head will explode if I don't put them on paper. I will learn a lot from you as someone who wants to write screenplays. I need to binge-watch your channel. if you need someone to brainstorm with, I'm more than happy to help :)

Hey Nani! How do you manage a social life and networking with such a packed schedule?
@NaniLiYang
@NaniLiYang Жыл бұрын
Hi Laura, that’s a great question! I’m introverted so I probably I have less social life in general. I try to meet up with different friends every other week. Sometimes I might going through a couple of weeks without social. When it comes to meet up with friends, I usually scheduled a week before and I would choose a time that’s after my writing, and I’ll make sure they don’t interfere with my priorities energy wise. For example, I went for dinner with a group of friends last week on a Monday evening, and after dinner we spontaneously decided to go somewhere else for a couple of more hours. I went with them because I have wrote and worked during the day, I don’t have much energy left to work on more things that day anyway. And, I don’t have day job the next day, so I know I can sleep in and rest enough to resume my energy. For the weeks when I have film festivals or a lot of screening, filmmaker mixers, I might shift my priorities. During these weeks I just skip uploading videos if I can’t finish the editing, but still keep writing, or vlogging. I think in general, I try not to schedule my time but focus on schedule my energy. So I normally leave social stuff during my low energy hours. I hope this helps. 😊

@@NaniLiYang That's interesting, thanks for your answer! In that case, is it really beneficial to live in LA? Or is it because I have the impression that it's already expensive to survive there? 😅
@NaniLiYang
@NaniLiYang Жыл бұрын
Yeah, LA is very expensive. I live on the East side where the rent is a way cheaper. I would say there are some benefit of living in L.A., but definitely not crucial. For example, there are some local mixers, film premieres, and film festivals I would go, to watch indie films, support friends, as well as building the connection. But since a lot of events happening online now, I met a lot of my filmmaker friends online. And then, we meet up in person through these opportunities. I have a friend who is extravert. She goes out several times a week, she made a lot of important connections. The second benefit is that I met filmmakers all over the world online, there's this group we have formed a bound last year, I was the only one get to meet all of them in person eventually. They came to L.A. promoting their film at one point, and I would meet them up for lunch or hanging out together. The third I'd say is it's very easy to find collaborators and work together in person. But again, a lot of people collaborate virtually now. Even sometimes because the L.A. traffic, we might just zoom instead of drive. Last but not least, Living in L.A. has saved me a lot of travel money in terms attending some important festivals and promote my film. I would say its all depends on what roles do you want to play, if you are actress or, if you want to get into a writer's room, or if you are a producer and good with social setting then perhaps, lives here has more opportunity. But if you only want to work on your writing and craft for now, then it's not really that important. Most of distributed indie filmmaker I met are not from L.A.
