I wouldn't care if you made a video with your hair sticking up all over the place, I just love your videos! I always feel like I learn something. I hope you do do a video about your students responses to TKAM! I didn't love it even though I know so many people do. It will be interesting to hear what they took from it.

If you like whaling stories, In the Heart of the Sea is very good. It tells the true story of the Essex that sets sail in 1820 from Rhode Island, hunts around the tip of South America and and roughly 15 months later off the coast of Chili is repeatedly rammed and sunk by a massive whale. The story is the basis for Melville's Moby Dick. An exciting read! Chris Hemsworth recently starred in a movie adaptation of the book that I haven't seen.

I love your wrap-ups, Whitney, and this one was great with all the random true crime, whaling, food, and TKAM discussion :) I read North Water when it was listed for the Man Booker, and was wondering what it reminded me of, until you pointed out that it reads like Jack London, whom I used to obsessively read as a child, which explains why I was attracted to this weird, graphic, masculine story (not something I gravitate towards generally). Looking forward to your video on the TKAM class discussion.

I love Jack London still. He tells such a great adventure story. I will get that TKAM video out soon!

Did you see BBC-"Shakespeare retold's"' version of the Taming of the Shrew with unique , unique, unique Shirley Henderson? Amazing! Works great with students

Hi Whitney. I heard that The North Water is similar to Cormac McCarthy...the violence, maybe? I know you like McCarthy(as do I), and I'm wondering if you agree with this comparison. I've heard it said a number of times. I'm really interested in reading it, but haven't picked it up yet. And, BTW, the intro to the video? Priceless. Loved it.

I looooove Shakespeare, but Taming of The Shrew was not one of my favorites >.< I love Hamlet

Vinegar Girl, IMHO, is just weak and disapointing, Winterson's take on Shakespeare also didn't blow me away so I don't feel any immidiate need to read Jacobson (even though I already have it) or Atwood. This series was something I was looking for and sadly it didn't deliver.

It would be so interesting to hear what high school students have to say about To Kill a Mockingbird nowadays. And a Taming of the Shrew video too!? I'm so excited now. I don't know if I've actually read Taming of the Shrew, but I have seen it performed once. I'm delighted that you mentioned 10 Things I Hate About You. I love that movie, and of course it has to be mentioned in any good Shakespeare adaptation video. And The North Water sounds so intriguing! Graphic and fast paced... sounds exciting! Adding it to my ever growing TBR.

Loved hearing your thoughts about North Water. I'd been thinking about checking it out since the Man Booker long list, but you've convinced me to grab it. Thanks!

That is disappointing about the true crime book, I feel like I have had a couple of nonfiction books that I have DNF'd for reasons you mentioned. I was extremely interested in the subject matter so whomp whomp, but life is too short. Will have to add The North Water to my list, I haven't heard of that one at all so I am excited about that :) Looking forward to your talk about To Kill a Mockingbird! I might need to read that first though, lol. It was a high school read for me but I think I only made it 70% of the way through, I used to be so bad at school, hahahaha.

"My Favorite Murder" covered a famous murder in my own town. But the hosts were too lazy to do any research, and got even the most basic facts of the case wrong (including the name of the actual city!). I stopped listening to the podcast after that.

Love the idea for the video about students and To Kill a Mockingbird! I was teaching that book to my students during my internship last month and I felt like the class reacted in such interesting ways

you might like Bad Karma by Deborah Bloom. it is about the case that resulted in the 1976 lawsuit Tarasoff v Reagents of University of California, "Protective privilege ends where public peril begins".
