Like many others, thank you for posting this video. I had to adjust the temperature on my unit and seeing you do it made it super clear what I had to do. So much better than the printed instructions.

Thank you for this step by step walk through. Had to replace the control unit myself. Saved me $600 plumber bill as he wanted to replace the whole unit and tearing down tiles in the shower.

The Grohe plumbing system is advanced one , shower valves have long history of extreme durability , installed in Germany 25 year ago almost the same technology Grohe valves had and today very similar . interesting that at that time American Standard was kind popular in Germany , I guess different brand and name that says something . Good blog you made that would help a lot of people :)

Matthew, this (19880000) is actually a pressure balanced trim/cartridge; it is designed to correct variances in pressure only. A thermostatic trim/cartridge (19869000) corrects based on temperature. Both can be used with this rough valve.

I looked on my Amazon order page, and you are 100% correct. Mine is the pressure balanced cartridge. The Amazon description, however, says nothing about what that means. Can you you give us a quick summary of the difference? Thanks!

@@jandrews365 Wow. Great info. I love my pressure balanced valve and I didn't even know why. I love that it is with one handle. With the temp control for the water on my on demand water heater, I just jam that handle all the way to the left and always have perfect temperature. Thanks again!

on the water heater here there is a temperature adjuster on the front of the heater , that could be turned down to save money, or help adjust the water temperature at the outlet
@JosephLorelli
@JosephLorelli 6 жыл бұрын
Be careful with turning down water heaters. If the internal temperature is under 49 °C (120 °F) it can grow bacteria and other nasties real quickly.

Is there a seal that you have to apply to the black plastic backplate? I can’t get the escutcheon plate to snap on. I backed out the screws too. It looks like the black plate is not away enough from the wall. I had a plumber disassemble it, but I’m putting it back together.

Better late than never..... Are there any tips on removing the large round chrome cover plate or trim that sits against the wall tiles? I am trying to remove mine but don't want to damage the clips or bend the cover plate.
@mbrenengen
@mbrenengen 4 жыл бұрын
Good question. Look at about minute 11 in the video and you can see there are four rectangles that the clips go into. I tried to get mine off just recently, and was in the same boat, I didn't want to break it. I think you need to just go for it and let me know if it works.
@planetmikeus
@planetmikeus 4 жыл бұрын
@@mbrenengen As it turns out Grohe makes two "slightly" different escutcheon plates, one where the chrome trim cover clips onto and another where the chrome plate twists onto. Removing the trim cover incorrectly will result in a broken escutcheon plate.

@@planetmikeus Do you have any tips for how to remove my type with the clips? Or is it a "consumable" part?
@planetmikeus
@planetmikeus 4 жыл бұрын
@@mbrenengen I am told by Grohe there is a slot at the 6 O'clock position of the chrome cover plate where you apply a screw driver too. I discovered I have the twist cover.
@planetmikeus
@planetmikeus 3 жыл бұрын
@@danimburgia6559 Thanks. I have the twist-on cover plate. Very easy to install and remove and certainly easier than the clip-on type. The key to the twist plate are the gaskets behind it to prevent water from flowing down the wall and behind the plate.

I went to turn the hot cold service screws and one broke, so the screw driver has not way of connecting so it can turn the ball valve, Any suggestions?
@mbrenengen
@mbrenengen 3 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Did you turn it the wrong way? I can't imagine why it would have broken. Anyway. Yes. Get yourself a screw extractor also known as an "easy-out". You will have to drill a hole in the end of the screw. Insert the Easy-Out and it will grab the inside of the hole and allow you to turn it.

Could have left out the random music, and random part with the rain kinda confusing? Interesting but no way to adjust shower pressure kinda strange. Would be better on water if not running full blast all the time.

@your name Nome of what you said changes the fact that your condescending original statement was false. While not all shower cartridges do that, there IS a way to control shower pressure on a cartridge. Sorry if I offended you by pointing out the fact that you were wrong.

Grohe has turned to garbage IMHO. Overpriced garbage. The new stuff has gotten cheaper in quality and the spares have gotten cheaper in quality...definitely not price. They are starting to use galvanized metal parts and screws instead of the brass they used to use. Further, the designs for spares seem to be designed to force you to buy even more parts to fix design flaws they have had. Spares are expensive and, in my opinion, hard to come by. Better to buy something that looks nice and is cheap in price so you can find spares at your local big box at affordable prices. Once you install these monsters you are stuck with them until you are willing to break tile. Very bad experiences with Grohe.
