Humans are conflictual creatures and we find ways to cause conflict one way or another. But through history, people have come up with ways to simulate those death defying moments and that feeling of being in conflict or to be able to push those feelings of wanting to fight something or shoot something onto more and more safe targets. I personally believe that if we allow ourselves to be more open minded and be able to have fun while still immersing ourselves in simulated conflict, in a way, it helps releases those urges and feelings and make us less aggressive and more kind to each other because "we're just a bunch of good bros". =)

I havent done airsoft in years, havent been abke to afford gear or find a group, but i got into it when i was in pre boot camp for the marines using airsoft as training for control and tactics during stressful situations. One that stuck with me was one day we were taking the bus to the range and all of a sudden 4 buggys roll up and we are all dragged out and lined up on the side of the road for execution. Instinctively everyone did something to survive and escape down the hill. We all had our pistols and a rubber knife, a few had a rifle as well, so a few freaked and pulled pistols getting executed on the spot which was enough time for me to grab the 2 on either side of me and roll backwards down the hill, from there a barker yelled out that they had 1 hour to find and capture or execute everyone. So me and those 2 went around covered ourselves in mud and debris as we were all in red training shirts and staged a rescue op drawing the assailants one at a time and gathering rescuees to survive, and if possible, retake the bus. You forget that its not real and the adrenaline is high. Me and the other 2 were able to save 17 of 24, 3 were "killed" right off, 2 were caught before we reached them and we couldnt get the final 2 in time as after 45 minutes the assailants bunkered down inside the bus. We had also designated one to return to camp for reinforcements but he didnt make it back before the hour was up. It was the most intense training id ever seen and it really felt like kill or be killed at the time, partly because, like in real life, it happened without warning

When I was about 6 to about 12 years old, me and my friends played "war" with very good looking wooden guns (my brother and I draw really well so back then he drew replicas of the guns on wood and later they were cut out and some details were carved on some of the better looking guns). It was the most amazing thing ever. Slowly crawling in a dark and tight corridor with a light at the end, being able to see your enemies, but they can't see you. Playing with pistols, shotguns, snipers and rifles. It was AMAZING. Kinda miss that and that's probably why I like airsoft (don't play airsoft by myself though).

Blanks in Milsim West are pretty safe for the most part. You have to use a blank gun or a normal gun modified to be a blank gun. The guns are modified in a way that even if you tried to chamber a normal round it would be impossible. Only certain approved individuals get to use blanks. All ammo and guns are checked several times before the event. The guns and person can be searched at any time to ensure safety. They have to follow all gun safety rules such as treat every gun as if it is always loaded with real ammo, never point your muzzle at something you don’t intend to destroy, always keep your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to fire, always keep your gun on safe until you are ready to fire. The time he talked about ringing ears from a blank means the person didn’t follow the rules. There is a 20ft fan to the side and in front of you for people with blanks at milsim west. If someone is within those 20ft you are not allowed to fire your gun.

You both made good points about how Vice is as always slightly out of touch. There is almost no politics in the game. Its roleplay, its not glorification. The distinction is almost impossible to draw from an outside perspective, but every kid understands the want of going out on an adventure, of playing dress up. Very hard topic to cover correctly, but the reporter made a good conclusion. Also yeah why no speedsoft :(

In Bergen, Norway we often just play Blue vs yellow team... or other colors. No country or anything... we even have rules that dont allow political, racial or religious conversations during games. At our field we have a system set in place were kids from 13years and up can join, given that their parents have allowed it and we have a "brother" system where every player under 18 get a "brother" to turn to during games. So of guns fail, they get hurt or missunderstand rules. Then they can allways turn to the "brother" and ask for help. The most important aspect of the game is that everyone have fun, and no one get in fights or anything. in the end of the day we are all friends that enjoy the sport and treats it like a sport and nothing else.

Most guys who carry blanks carry a airsoft sidearm as well for indoor use. MilSim West bans indoor blank use.

For blank rounds at milsim west you must use a BFA (blank firing attachment) which screws into the barrel of the weapon and will stop at least 2 live rounds before coming off.

See the thing about this though as you're having fun and no one's actually getting hurt and it gives you a rough idea of what the military deals with on a in normal basis.

airsofters seem pretty good at it too. Shame other groups cant take note from it. I have more right leaning views but most my friends lean left. However its because of our shared interests and willingness to get along that our politics doesn't ever matter and we basically never talk about it. I mean one friend of mine has massive differences to me politically, but he is my buddy I always call upon to play fortnight or cod
