I ate at this Dickson City UNO twice, and I was not impressed. I thought the pizza was too greasy and oily. And I remember being unhappy with the service. No great loss! What struck me about the condition inside is how it looked like it was abandoned abruptly, with servers' names still on the whiteboard (6:10) and the stack of menus by the front desk (8:00).

This tugs at my heartstrings. I was the first employee hired on at a new resturaunt. I got to know the owners very well. I ran the kitchen and for a year and a half, myself, the owners and a loyal staff of about 10 struggled to launch the business. An apartment complex 20 feet from our building burned down. New construction blocked off the street in front of us. Ultimately, we had to close. We were told we had 2 days to clear out what we could. It was a mad rush and very emotional. The space has yet to be re-leased and that was a year ago. We left that place that was our second home in such a frantic and tragic 48 hours. I see this and I see a broken dream. Thank you for sharing this.

According to Google maps, the nearest one is about 1500 miles east of me, so not likely I ever will. I wonder how much of the equipment was stolen and how much was sold.

I've eaten at the original one in Chicago a number of times. It's been in the same place (in a former 1800's mansion) since the 1940's. It is fantastic! It's called Pizzeria Uno. It is so different than all of the franchise ones. I ate at one in the northern suburbs of Chicago and was so disappointed. The restaurant was clean but the pizza did not measure up to the original one in the city. Plus the atmosphere was like a typical modern restaurant. I mean, when you go to the original one in that old historic landmark, it's kind of special. You feel almost like you stepped back in time. The founders opened a second one in the 1950's because the first one was doing so good and they couldn't expand. The second one, also in a 1800's former mansion, is about a block from the first one. It's called Pizzeria Due (2 in Italian). I've eaten there once. It was good but the pizza wasn't quite as good as Uno's. It didn't have as much stuff on it. Maybe it was who was cooking that day? The founders also opened a Mexican restaurant in the former carriage house of the mansion Due is in. I've never been there but hear it's good and has killer margaritas. Rofl.

We went there many years ago. The chef wasn't there and the manager was cooking, after sending back steaks two or three times the manager came out and apologized, saying he was cooking as the regular chef was out. We ended up having burgers. Never returned. Smokey Bones was directly across the street, that was a hugh loss, we loved that place and were shocked when it closed. Dickson City had or has too many places to eat, and they should have put a stop to the over construction. Do you remember the Walmart next to Wegmans?, the one where boulders would come crashing down the mountain and the workers would flee to the front of the store. Thanks for the memories.

I used to eat at this Uno when they had the dinner and a movie deal going on with the Regal. It was a bummer that they stopped. One of my cousins also worked there as a bartender for a time. Then the service and food went downhill. The last time I ate there, my sister got served undercooked chicken and one of the managers argued with us that it was just the lighting, but my flashlight said otherwise. I also know it failed its health inspection two years in a row not long before its closure. It's a shame that it died like it did, but I'm happy to be getting a Chili's again. I liked the Wilkes-Barre one. I am a bit bummed out that I didn't have time to see if I could convince the construction crew to give me a menu or something though.

Regardless of the camera shot, it still worked well.

UNO’s began in Chicago in 1943. It became famous for its deep dish style pizza. As I was born and raised in Chicago, a trip to Uno’s was a treat for our family. They used a flaky dough that was more similar to a crispy pie crust, with all the inside ingredients placed with the cheese on the bottom and the toppings layered on top. It was always fresh, never frozen. At some point after I moved from Chicago to Pennsylvania around the late 70’s, UNO’s franchised its restaurants all over the country. Now living in Pittsburgh, I was excited to try pizza I grew up with…Chicago deep dish pizza! I was less than thrilled. It was NOTHING like the original UNO’s. Not the crust, not the texture, or even the fresh ingredients such as the home cooked tomato sauce. I was so disappointed and never returned back to ANY of the franchised restaurants. It wasn’t the same pizza at all. It gave Chicago style pizza a bad name. They eventually closed down most of the stores in the States. I believe the restaurants in Chicago never changed their ingredients and have always used their original recipe. 🍕

Same here. Been to the original one a number of times and it was fantastic. Then tried one in the northern suburbs and I was so disappointed. It was terrible. The crust was different, it wasn't stacked in the same way and the sauce didn't taste fresh. Won't make that mistake again. I haven't been to Pizzeria Uno in about 10 years but still have friends up there who go there and say it's still the same awesome pizza. Plus you can't beat the atmosphere of the original one.

I have only eaten there once when I was very little. Despite living in the area for the past 21 years of my life and being only 11 miles away from Dickson City. Sometime in the 2000s my mom and dad took me to UNO and that was the first and last time I have eaten there, I have heard mixed reviews about the place. However, my parents weren't fans of the food, and me being very little at the time, which was 2005 or 2006, so I don't remember how the food tasted then. But, I have heard several reasons why this closed in 2019, and it did close before the pandemic. One of the reasons that I have heard of why this location closed, and I think this may be true as of what I have heard from multiple people, is that there were mice and rats and multiple other health and safety violations found by health and safety inspectors in the kitchen. And I don't know if this is 100% true or not, but seeing the footage of the fryers and the insides in the ovens can probably somewhat confirm it, even though there is mold on them for sitting for 5 years.

Used to see UNO locations here and there in my travels. Alas, either there was no time to stop, or nowhere to park 75 feet of tractor-trailer nearby, so I never got to try eating at an UNO. By the looks of some other comments, sounds like I wasn't missing too much. (Edit) Man, there was a TON of valuable items left behind. If you know anything about food and beverage service, there was an awful lot of money left sitting there gathering mold and dust. Looks like vandals destroyed the conveyor oven, taking parts and things off, smashing stuff. Pizza ovens are not easy to up and abscond with, but I would have paid a crew to dismantle and remove it, as well as some other things in there that were once worth a lot of money. Ice maker, all sorts of smallwares, fixtures. Obviously the menus and probably the booth fixtures, tables, chairs are not worth much, but the right person could have seen value in them and saved ( I mean years ago, not in their current state) and found a place to re-use them. All those reproduction pics on the wall.... I see a fair number had already departed. Plates, glassware, a lot of it left behind got smashed by vandals. What a waste.

The original restaurant in Chicago's River North is still there and has kept the name Pizzaria Uno.

I am familiar with UNO pizza, there used to be one in Durham, NC where I used to live in kind of a strip mall area. I thought their pizza were good, but that was more than 5 yrs ago. I can say I was sad that they didn't make it at the time. As for the cleanliness of this one in your video, it surely doesn't look like the kitchen cleaning requirements were done very often. Grease just doesn't appear, it looks like it's been there for a long time. So probably why they didn't reopen, I would guess it may not have been getting enough business before the pandemic. Shame to demolish a restaurant for another one and not be able to salvage some of the equipment. But between the age old grease and mold, it was probably cheaper and easier to demo and start from scratch than try to clean it up. I like Chili's as well, it's been a while since I've gone to one, but they did have good food back in the day. Their quesadilla was my fav. I hope the new place makes it and brings job opportunities to the community. Thanks for sharing! 😊

Holy crap. Why did they need four 3-phase electrical panels? Grills and ovens run on natural gas. Walk-in cold storage doesn't use much electricity. The HVAC for the place couldn't have been that massive. That's the kind of stuff that makes ya think there's a survival shelter bunker built beneath the place.
@brianc.92383 ай бұрын
HVAC and some of the commercial kitchen equipment like the fryers and cold boxes would have been 3ph. Not sure about the pizza ovens being electric, but I didn't see any venting other than the hood. Having all those panels would have made servicing equipment a lot easier without having to shut down the whole place or large sections of it. Certain things have to stay functional before heath dept. regs force a full closure and major revenue loss. The install electricians probably got a pretty sweet check from the job!

I see top dollar in all the equipment like tbe walk in fridges, stoves, and other restaurant equipment. Call a restaurant fixture company, and theyll buy it all, remove it, take back to their shop, clean, degrease it, service, and repair it, and then resell it as used equipment. Heck commetcial ice machines go for a pretty penny even used. I used to work with a guy that runned a used restaurant fixture and equipment co. Was fun going to all tbese abandoned restaurants and removing the equipment before demo. He got permission of course. Was nasty all the cooking grease. I do refrigeration so i mostly removed the walk in boxes, and cooling equipment, the reach in coolers and what not. I would clean setvice, and check the refrigerent charge if needed, then leave plugged in for a few weeks to mske sure all in in working order before being offered for sale. Not going to lie but i love saving things from the junk yard or destruction, and seeing them get put back to use for what they were meant for. I still remember Unos radio jingle from the mid 90s. It was called Uno means number 1 in a lot more ways than one.

Interesting explore as always; thank you. The amount of waste is positively disgusting, because you know perfectly well that almost every fragment of what you see will end up either in a landfill or scrapyard even if it were perfectly usable. All the damage looks like either from stupid brats breaking in and trashing stuff or from nature because the place was closed up with no climate control through several nasty Pennsylvania summers. The only Uno's that I ever went to was one within walking distance of Lisner Auditorium at GWU in D.C., back in the late `90s or early Aughts. A group of us preparing for the yearly Christmas Revels performance would go for pizza after rehearsals or shows. Pizza was good but not jumping-up-and-down outstanding, and the service was usually pretty good because we were a large group (so a large tip was expected), and most of the servers were chill college kids from GWU. What was not good, but not their fault, was the D.C. 15% restaurant tax on every bill, so if you wanted to leave your server a decent tip, you had to calculate a full 30-40% over your base bill, and the pizza wasn't precisely cheap to begin with. Dividing the check and calculations at the end always took almost as long as the meal. :S

It's been awhile since I've been in an Uno's. It weren't bad. I don't know if I'll go back. Of course I went with my birth mother which dampened the spirit of the place, but I might like it better if I went out with someone else.

No, I've never been to an Uno, including this one. Chili's is fine but I really wish they had put in a Cracker Barrel or even a Trader Joe's!

Uno never appealed to me. Off topic: Question: What does a Subway Restaurant and outerspace have in common? Answer: They both have no atmosphere. 😂 (Especially when some Subway Restaurants don't have the classic Subway map wallpaper).

Cool I don't eat in restaurants or fast food places.
