Now I Have All The Power!

In this episode Rob takes the Ram 3500 Four Wheel Camper Overland Explorer build across Nevada to Reno to see KP at Zero Declination to have him address some power issues the camper has had accurately reading the state of charge of the Battle Born LiFePO4 Batteries through the REDARC system due to incorrect wiring of the system. In addition to fixing that issue, KP also did some other great upgrades to the system in general while it was in his shop.

Rob! This might be a long one... I'm guessing that you deleted the possibility for shore power hook up in that format with the inverter connected to all the outlets? I have my inverter connected to all the outlets through a transfer switch that works automatically, so I can use shore power to supercharge my 4 battleborns and power the camper if thats available. I can run my outlets off of my shore power or my inverter. Is that possible with your system? I did have a glitch at first that the inverter was back feeding through the redarc, basically my batteries where charging my batteries which I fixed by just throwing the converter switch on the 4WC 120 panel. I have my 400ah battleborns under my back drivers side dinette seat and my inverter under the sink so pretty close to the batts. I also use the refrigerator cooling fan to cool the inverter so it doesn't get too hot. I just deleted Propane from my rig so might think of moving and adding 2 more battleborns, three where yours are and up to three more where my propane tanks use to be!! See you at Expo west?

We chose not to integrate an ATS into this installation, mostly to save space. The shore power plug on the outside still charges the batteries, but doesn't pass AC power through to the outlets inside. For rigs that are primarily off-grid, passing the power through generally isn't really needed.

Curious did FWC wire this because even I know to wire EVERYTHING through the battery monitor shunt.

No. When it came from FWC it was wired correctly. The dealer I bought the camper from added a 3rd battery to it and wired in the inverter that were not wired in correctly. That is basically what KP fixed for me along with doing those other upgrades while he had it in there.

Love the tires but they are loud and I am only getting about 20k miles out of set best case.

You ever consider decorating the inside of the camper? I just mean it might be nice to not look at various shades of gray on literally every surface

Not really. We kind of like it to be not cluttered looking, but I'm sure at some point we will have to replace the fabrics so maybe when that time comes we will go with something with a bit more color variety to it.

Why won’t top come down in wind?

The wind gets up under it and will push it right back open as soon as you put it down it if it’s blowing hard enough. You can get it down with more than one person in higher winds if one person holds it down while the other latches, but when alone that isn’t an option.

@@overlandv10 I would mount flip up eye bolts in the floor and ceiling and use a rope pulley or two to keep it pulled down until I got the outside latches secured.

@@jmpowell19 that is an interesting idea. Someone should mention that to FWC as something they could also offer from the factory.
