Check the bushings in sprockets. It’s all wear items. Including the chain… I would think have a chain and sprockets on both sides of that bucket would be more ideal

Put a blocker bolt behind and against the idler pulley bolt and tighten the dickens out of it. Won’t be so easy to move next time a rock hits it. Plums look great! Ground tornado got our peach trees, they were loaded.

Looks like a spacer is missing from that idler sprocket shaft and the difference is made up with all those washers. I know you said the chain was aligned but it sure looked a bit off to me. Maybe fab up a cover for the adjuster bolt head on the inside of the bucket?
@jmltech7
@jmltech7 4 күн бұрын
All those washers are not part of the original design. It's been "hacked" by the previous owner. You probably need a partially threaded bolt that is bigger at the start, preventing the sprocket to come too close to the bucket.

Being a steel welder of items 8n this way I'd say there's a issue with the thickness on the walls and if there's room either weld a x brace from angle iron with the v facing out. If there's not enough area in the gear side do the best. Weld about a two inch weld every 6 inches

They sell a special Loctite that is oil tolerable. You might want to try it if you already haven't... Also clean that sprocket with some Brake Clean before installing the set screw...Also I thought I saw the motor shaft move in or out when you engaged the motor. You might have some wear on it which is causing the chain to jump...Good Luck....

Hi Josh good fix, but when using Loctite (any variety) for best results, first degrease the area, your applying Loctite to, then apply as much as is necessary, ie into the threaded hole then on the bolt/screw, reassemble ! The Wait approx 15/20 minutes minimum for the chemicals to react in the space between threads, BEFORE trying it out? WWWHHHOOOOOooooooooWoooooo

That rock picker should have a shaft running thru in the middle of that, instead of a short shaft on each side. The short shaft on sprocket side is bent throwing off the chain off the idler. IMO

Does the set screw go into an indexing hole on the shaft ?? When the carrier is pulling up the rocks and binds up the sprocket will get loose and the set screw won’t work because it will free soon. I’d alter it to run a pin all the way through. The pin should be made of stronger material than the gear or it will break. A machine shop can do it Another way so weld the gear onto the shaft. Just a thought.

Just curious the chain jumps a bit, is the scraper supposed to be in a certain postiion in order to align the chain or do you think the gear is a bit out of round? I would guess the chain shouldn't jump much or not at all when rotating. Fun implement etiher way!

Something you may want to try, to keep those "GRUB-SCREWS," from loosening-up besides the LOCTITE, is drill little divots (maybe 1/16" in. {0.0625"}) or more deep into the shaft of the motor. This way your getting more surface area, for the "GRUB-SCREWS," to hold onto. FYI, more than likely the "GRUB-SCREWS," are case hardened, the motor shaft is case hardened. Which would mean your "GRUB-SCREWS," have less than 1/32 surface area in contact, i.e., a point of a sewing needle, trying to hold on to the motor shaft. To test the metal for case hardness, use a everyday metal file, using average hand pressure (approx. 1/2 pound) take two or three strokes with the file over the suspected metal, (motor shaft in this case;) and see if the file removes any metal at all, or does it just skate across the metal surface and doesn't leave any marks what-so-ever. If the file skates across, it's case hardened. Congratulations you just completed your first metal testing. Assuming the motor shaft were case hardened, you would first need to anneal (soften) the shaft metal (Via heat up to cherry red, and let air cool,) then drill your divots, then to bring back to a case hardened state, heat cherry / white hot, quench with water / or oil, (used car oil or vegetable oil) Bob's your uncle, the shaft is now again case hardened. To soften the shaft, the whole shaft need not be brought up to cherry red, just an area equal to the divot dia. and depth. Wrap a dripping wet rag around the shaft closest to the motor itself, to act as a heat shield. Maybe setup say a 16 oz plastic bottle with a hole on the bottom (to one edge of the bottle) enough to just seep / pee water onto the rag. If I had to guess how long using a number three or four welding tip (NOT A CUTTING TORCH HEAD) to heat, maybe between four to eight seconds.
