Every time I hear this song I think about a point in my life were I explored my thoughts on separate consciousness and left and right brain being different and that I’m just along for the ride really. Back when I did explore this something stopped me in my tracks that terrifies me to this day. I always interpreted this song as a man who struggled with addiction and suicidal thoughts reaching out to a friend who went through the same ordeal. They rely on each other for support, but as time passes he realizes that his friend may be holding him back with the worst of intentions. I see that last part as the "friend" revealing that it was actually a manifestation of the man's problems, leading him down a darker path until he succumbs to despair. I view this song as a story of self destructive habits and how they can lead to disaster.

The song almost sounds like an undead creature trying to convince their human lover to take them back. "How dark is it in your head?" "I promise I'm alive" They're trying to convince their lover that their still human, that they can still be happy. But they haven't realized how much death's warped them. Weird take, but its what I picture.
