Wow! I’ve been getting back into guitars again lately, and I really wanted to see if Ibanez was still making stuff my metal loving heart would enjoy. Holy hell, the high gain section damn near blew me away on every single setting. You swapped to a new pickup setting or between voice 1 and 2, and my jaw would drop again. That’s what… 10 different jaw drops? Really glad I decided to google some RG prestige series reviews and happened across your video. I might be able to convince my wife to let me drop $2k on one of the more expensive models.

Just played this model in blue at Andertons. Neck - feels efforless and so comfortable. Perfect. Looks - yep, box ticked. Beautiful guitar. Pickups - Amazing, these Fishman Fluence Modern Humbuckers are amongst the best I've ever heard. Clarity when you want it and power when you need it. Fret ends - beautifully finished. Fret level - oh dear Ibanez. This is a £1600 Japanese made Prestige model. Checking the frets with a quality fret rocker revealed really high 3rd and 9th frets and at the higher register they were just up and down all over the place. Action was 1.75mm at the 12th which for me is high. I fear once lowered to 1.25mm at the low Ecand around 1.1-1.2mm to at yhe high E I'd find the strings buzzing on those high frets. Why can't manufacturers get a guitar out with level frets? It's not that hard. My Fender Japan Tele and Fender Ultra Tele were exactly the same and these are not budget instruments. So yes, overall there is a lot to like and I will probably go back and buy one. But I'll have to go over the frets with a rocker and find one that is properly levelled. Otherwise I'd need £150;off the price to cover the cost of a PLEK.

I bought this exact guitar. I went back and forth between the Ibanez RG5121 Prestige and an ESP E-II M-II HT for several days before I pulled the trigger. Ultimately I couldn't justify spending $1300 more on the ESP. The stock strings on the RG5121 were too bright for my tastes, and swapping them for Fender pure nickel bullets [10-46] mellowed out the tone perfectly. If I was determined to criticize the guitar, a *minute* finishing defect on the upper side of the first fret is the only other honest complaint I could make. The RG5121 looks, plays, and sounds fantastic.
@VincenzoPii Жыл бұрын
I am considering the same two guitars :). Are you still happy with the choice that you made?
@mifune9634 Жыл бұрын
@@VincenzoPii For sure. To be fair, I can't know if I made the "best" choice unless I also had an ESP E-II M-II HT for comparison, but I've never felt I made a bad choice. Could the ESP be better in some minute way? Sure, I guess. Better to the degree that a middle aged dude who doesn't play for a living could justify spending another $1300 (roughly +65% the cost of the Ibanez) on the ESP? Heck no! EDIT: Unless you already have a kick ass amplifier, I'd say the additional $1300 (if you have it to spend) would be better spent on upgrading your amp. :)

Pretty sure this is a 3 piece body like all or at least most Prestiges. Wish they were 2 piece bodies at the most for what you're paying, but sadly they are not. They do a good job of hiding the seams on the back, but if you look closely on the insides of the horns, you can usually see the 2 seams there making up a 3 piece body.

Quick question , you said the dropped back furrels (if that’s how you spell it) on the lower string are good for extra tension when drop tuned . How ? I always understood the tension you feel is dictated by the scale length ( bridge contact point to nut contact point ) as they are the point the string is pulled tight between.
@Timbo66692 жыл бұрын
It does have to do with scale length but this helps with stability, without using thicker strings. Ie tuned down
