The thing is that the majority of Coldplay’s music, especially some of their older stuff but even now I would say, is very esoteric. Their lyrics are never very specific or too in your face and there’s always a word or phrase that completely throws you off and makes you question wtf they’re talking about. They always reference space, science and time…so that kinda makes it a bit weird. I believe Chris (the singer) has said Jonny Buckland (the guitarist) is a huge space/science fan and he’s inspired a lot of their most weird/out there lyrics. The band has also said that their lyrics are more of a feeling, a fleeting thought, than the actual meaning of the song. They’ve said they think they won’t be remembered for their lyrics, but rather their melodies. I have to completely agree here tbh, there’s always usually an element of feeling a little disoriented when listening to their stuff, but also like you’re witnessing something important.
@joel6633
@joel6633 2 жыл бұрын
I'd say their music gets you in the right mindset - it makes you aim up and have a positive outlook on life, and that's the quite opposite of disorienting. Same with their melodies, they almost always have this melancholy inbedded in them but also power and strength to turn all the misery into something good.

@@solangemorell2048 that's interesting, actually I can't think of any song of them that hasn't got a positive message in it, can you? And I think that's also why they're so popular, cause people get uplifted when listening to their music

@@joel6633 well, Shiver and Trouble from Parachutes are a bit depressing I would say. From the second one, In my Place and The Scientist are not the happiest either. From X&Y, Square One and Talk are an existential crisis in song form 😂. Viva la Vida, for all that it sounds happy, it’s a pretty sad song as well. And Princess of China is basically a break up song…and there’s many more but I think that’s enough lmao.
@joel6633
@joel6633 2 жыл бұрын
@@solangemorell2048 yeah agreed, but also you hear what you want to hear. For instance, Square One encourages you to take control of your own life, and Talk is about the importance of communication (for instance in a relationship) to maintain your sanity and maybe how little it takes, perhaps just a simple word, to stay sane - meaning you're often closer to something or someone than you think, it's just that your mind is constantly playing tricks on you.

I think you got the idea, this song is about running out of time and regretting missing opportunities. Besides, the person in the lyrics wants to go back home, with God or someone who is important to him, as "nothing else compares". It's actually a sad meaning in a beautiful rhythm, with the piano, the drums and the bass. Clocks is one of the best songs Coldplay has from their second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head 💿

Suffi, this song has different interpretations, but most think of love, time and anxiety. about a heartbreaking relationship, with which he is deeply in love but in which time is not running in his favor. that without this love he cannot give a concept to life and that he feels powerless to see how the relationship is being destroyed little by little, without being able to do anything. thanks for react!

If you think the piano sounds good on this .. wait until you watch it live .. i can’t even listen to the official version anymore live is where the magic is. Chris Martin is a piano humping machine 😂😂😂 Chris is crazy spiritual, most of their songs are the ability to relate to personal life experiences or something to do with god the universe he’s a very clever lyricist . Tbh I still don’t know what clocks is about haha you need to listen to Amsterdam .. I’m thinking you should have went though the songs in the album order because stuff makes more sense too imo

It took me a lot of time to try and find out what the meaning of this song is. But my guess is that he’s singing about how short life is and he doesn’t want to lose the opportunity to be with the person he loves. So he sings all this metaphors about time running out and then he says “You are” and later you tie that incomplete sentence with “home”. “You are home, where I wanted to go.”

My take on it : he's trying to push against something bad in life. He's desperate to go home and he thinks he can't be saved. It says tides I tried to swim against, which I think means he used to go the wrong way in life, and hes regretting it and wanting to go back where he belongs, or start over. (no suicidal thoughts intented.)

I think it's about having luck on your side, being seen for your beauty (that could be the shoot an apple of my head-part - just being spotted and targeted by somebody, but yeah of course somebody you can trust cause you don't want them to hit you in the head) and then this yearning to be with someone that feels like home, maybe you have a pretty loose definition of what that means but still you chase that feeling cause it's life, you wanna find your way

Probably not even Coldplay themselves know what this song is about. I think it was the last song they produced for its album and they didn't even want to include it. Far from being my favorite Coldplay song but listening to it with earbuds or headphones is a truly different experience. Sort of psychadelic at times. I guess you should now react to "Paradise" to complete the 6 pillars of Coldplay

This song talk about urgency to live. Yes, that was thier manager to convinced Chris to re-work this song, because this song was about urgency and thier manager think it's wasn't sense to not including in the album, because the whole album was about time passing, urgency to live (that was evident for example in ''Politik'' and ''Clocks'') It's was recording three weeks before the album came out and all the step of recording in few days and was adding at the last minute on the album.

so in a similar vein to radiohead there is an aspect on on level of using the voice as an instrument where the word sounds are important on one level and the lyrics less important (similare to radiohead idioteque). The sound is like a constant count down. There is an aspect of layering of music and lyrics with the chorus, so "You Are" the following gap later gets Home Home where i wanted to go, then the last fragment is nothing else compares. so the timing in song is important. Asan aside "Gone Home" means to die is Scouting and outdoors Shorthand. Something I think i picked up on when i fist heard years ago was the piano riff, I think it actually from "splash wave " which is from the computer game "outrun which Chris Martin is in the age demographic for that game. and it puns time running out or thrying to Outrun the Clock kzbin.info/www/bejne/boW7oniGnpWhb8k the apple off the Head is From William Tell (the lone ranger gallop song is the william tell overture and has that rhythm) a lot of the images in that verse are about being powerless and needing rescued (William tell had to shoot an apple off his sons head to save him from execution) being saved from the waters rising, or from a Tiger which needs taming (I would be interested to know if Chris Martin had read "life Of Pi" when writing this). The other interesting thing about the video is there are people standing completely still like they are suspended it time, its like time only exists on the stage, and as the water bottle falls it seem to become suspended. Also the colour shift are keyed to the music. Thematically it fits in with "The Scientist" and "Whisper" and other tracks on the album ideas of time, urgency, rash decisions.

The thing about Coldplay for me, is while some of their songs are a little easier to work out than others, I’ve never really cared about the lyrics and determining what the song’s about. As far as I can judge, Clocks is just about being lost in emotions or lost in life, and trying to find what matters to make one whole again before one’s time comes to an end. It’s all in the instrumentation, whisking you off on a vibe of so many feelings. It’s just really pretty and positive in its atmosphere, and that’s why I don’t hate Coldplay, makes me feel good listening to them, like escapism in sound. That and nostalgia, my Dad is a big fan of their early output. I’m more Ghost Stories and fantasy electronic dream vibes myself.
