It really isn't all that insane. The location was chosen to be where the border drops down from the river. If you were committed to that part of Norway, that's where you'd likely look first if you were to try scanning all along the river. If anything it was a well chosen location where the challenge is finding the right general location rather than tedious pinpointing.

You're looking at my home there for a second. On the Macau - China border. So Macau is basically the 2 islands, second, southern one built of Casinos and hotels. North one is the old Portugese settlment in a nutshell. I live on the China side on the left, west side of the river. I should sent you a photo. But i didn't realise it till you actually said "could be hong kong". Which is odd because I look at the maps almost every day. I actually thought instantly that is was Barca or somewhere in the middle east. Quite a mash up.

The first one is, funnily enough, the only spot on the Portuguese-Spanish border that is disputed. In spite of being the oldest continuously defined border, since the treaty of Zamora in the 1200s, the area around Olivenç/za has been disputed since the Spanish took it during the Napoleonic wars and didn't return it after the Congress of Vienna.

Hi Tom, there's a google support thread I found that clears up the issue on round 4. The Chinese government requires google maps to use their national coordinate system (GCJ-02), while the rest of the world uses an international standard coordinate system (WGS-84). This means that all the street data for china on maps is shifted by around 200 metres. From what I can tell your guess was based mostly on the information you could gather on the Chinese side of the border, but if you'd known about the discrepancy you would've looked more carefully at the Macanese side. Your guess was technically incorrect, but given you didn't know about the discrepancy I can't blame you.
