I`ve gone hungry a lot but I stopped going to stores and started growing my own fruits, berries and vegetables without using poisons. Next year I`ll finally begin getting large harvests and it will get better and better each year because I`m constantly improving, experimenting and expanding. I order imported sardines in olive oil for protein. I plan to get chickens when I can afford it but I`ve had to get everything set up first so I can feed them a lot of what I grow here. I can`t wait to turn them loose on the caterpillars infesting my peas and greens. They can have it all as long as they devour the worms.

Some of things they add sugar to is just so WEIRD and unexpected that most probably never even bother to check for it! HFCS, however, is over the top bad! Almost all flour (used to just be in the flour used commercially but now its pretty much all of it) has DHT (male hormone) added as a "stabilizer" (baldness, early menopause, stunted growth, early puberty, excessive facial or body hair, etc.).

They encouraged those with EBT (called food stamps back then) to purchase veggie seeds with it back when it was still "normal" for everyone to have a garden. Still can buy veggie seeds with EBT, but apparently they try not to advertise it. An assisted living facility put in a sort of community garden but just for the residents and encouraged them to buy seeds with EBT then helped them tend it during the pandemic. Most never even knew they could buy seeds with EBT to grow own food.

I try to grow things bugs don`t eat...or grow them after the bugs leave for the season. Here in Louisiana you have to grow cow pea varieties in the fall or borers get them. Ground Cherries can get infested by earwigs but if you grow 10 of them they can`t eat them all. Plus I planted 12 fig trees and 8 dwarf mulberry trees so there`s plenty for me and the birds and I can cover the ones I want with mesh. Cherry tomatoes set fruit in the July/August heat when there`s less caterpillars to deal with and greens, turnips, beets, potatoes and carrots can be grown in colder weather. If you grow burpless cucumbers the bugs stay off them and they aren`t affected by diseases as much, like Beit Alpha.

Oh yes the addictive part. I've seen it. We got custody of a 7 yr old 3 years ago. He was fed junk for 7 years McDonald's mountain dew chips cakes you name it. He had headaches stomach aches for awhile. Still to this day 3 yrs later he craves and wants sweets it has been a battle and he doesn't understand I just want him healthy. He is now one of the only children in his age group thats not over weight his friends can't run and play an keep up with him. Healthy food an he has no access to internet, no tablet or gadgets. We play outside ride bikes an he helps in the garden. We need to change things.

On the subject of Bernie Sanders: I would like to give some insight into his past voting history in the House. I lived in Vermont years ago when Bernie was mayor of Burlington and then in the House of Reps. At that time I was getting "The Spotlight", a populist/constitutional newspaper (they were put out of business). They would list bills up for vote and how they should be voted along with then rating the politicians on their voting records "for America" or not. We had cable and could watch the House while the votes were being placed. They only tallied votes by party affiliation and not by name. Bernie was the only Independent, so you could always tell how he voted. Knowing he was a socialist/communist, I was really surprised to see that he almost always voted for what would be best for the American people. Based on his voting, he actually had a higher "score" than many of the Republicans.

Some want kids but don't see anyway to provide for them so delay it only to find out later that they waited too long. People delay marriage or chose to remain single because just can't afford it.
