Bingo! And also, we're not looking to convert the rest of them.. there's only so much life! We're looking to stop the recruiting .. bring the children and babies into the fold! Most of those that end up in the cult, were never included in anything and that's why they're hate filled now.. they actually have gone on record that they hate inclusion and that told me everything I need to know.. 😂

When I turned 18 my mom had "the talk" with me. She sat me down and poured us some coffee and told me to listen very closely to what she was going to tell me because I was old enough to vote now.. She told me that my vote is MY vote, that it is private and I'm never to tell anyone who I voted for. And to NEVER EVER let anyone tell me how to vote, not a husband, not a friend and not her. To always vote for who *I want to vote for. She told me I was ALWAYS to vote because there was a time when women couldn't vote and people fought and died so women could vote..so I could vote. I took it to heart. I had the same talk with my son when he turned 18 (not the sufferage part) So when I became a Christian at 23 and the first election after my salvation rolled around I was gobsmacked when the Sunday before the election the pastor shamelessly told us (2500 of us) from the pulpit who to vote for. My jaw was literally in my lap, my mouth agape. I was visibly shocked. I looked around to see if everyone else was also appalled. NOPE. Everyone sat there nodding like good little puppets. I thought to myself "I'll vote for who was going to vote for anyways" I voted against who the pastor told us to vote for.

This is why I don't regularly attend a church. So many of them have been brainwashed for so long that it's no longer the gospel preached but political theatre at the pulpit. It saddens me as a Christian and I wish I had a church building I felt right in.

The Constitution calls for the separation of Church and State. That Church became a for profit organization the minute it was brought up. On a side note: 2500 people? That's not a church. It actually is a for profit organization. You want to worship? Find a Church with less than 200 people, kids included. Much better fellowship, and not a greedy pastor. And in cults, there's the added element of losing everyone you love. Plus when you leave, you think you'll be 100% on your own. The kindness of "outsiders" can be the tipping point of ex cult members realizing they've been lied to. (It was for me!) When you leave, you typically view yourself as the problem, not the cult or the leaders. When others are kind and you get along with strangers, it is the polar opposite of what the cult teaches you to expect.

I can relate. My wife was just starting to question her religion when we met. I made a point to never pressure her or make any attempts to influence her decision. I just made sure I was there to offer support and answer any scientific questions she may have. Eventually, she figured it out on her own and escaped the cult she was in. I say cult specifically regarding her individual church. It was quite an extreme group. She was raised believing she would always be secondary to men and having very low self esteem, among other horrible things. Today, she’s a proud rational thinker and happier than she’s ever been. There is no constitutional basis for taxing a 501c3 Religious institution because it has political discourse. 1st Amendment. SCOTUS (you know those 9 Catholic justices) would unanimously would rule against. They would find that taxing churches for having political speech unconstitutional and would require the taxation of all Charities. 97+% of American churches would pay zero taxes on what amounts to zero revenue. The 2% that would, will be taxed using corporate tax structure.... Meaning they'll just adjust the accounting to void out any profit. It's an silly emotional response that many would love for you to push so they could silence your charity, too. Think Planned Parenthood, Southern Poverty Law Center, ACLU, National Organization of Women.

I eventually found my way into a personal spirituality, and a relationship with Jesus and God / Spirit. It's a shame the good name is used so wrongly. When I read Alan Watts' essay called "Christianity: the religion of Jesus or about Jesus" it put into words for the first time why I'd always felt so uncomfortable with church and organized religion.

Years ago I attended a calvalry chapel church with my husband. Right from the start the cultiness was obvious. I remember the day that Bush was elected and the pastor was greeting everyone at the door excited about it. He said to me, "we got our guy in." I looked him dead in the eye and said, "He's not my guy." I thought he was going to have a stroke. I went for a couple years mostly because there was nothing else to do in that area and I did know a couple people from work but they always seemed of kilter to me. They'd mock people who care about the environment. I still don't understand their disrespect to the creation. They'd say tree huggers are foolish because we worship the creation and not the creator. I don't know, but I call it having respect for the creation and caring for the gift you've been given. When I went, I was pretty much shuned for my beliefs. I did yoga, which was frowned upon. I respect homeosexuals. I hug trees and so on. When I finally left I had so many friends that i didnt know i had. I was getting calls from women with the worst excuses to try and get me back in the cult. I watched them do this to the husband of a woman that split also. They're thoughts we're if you don't go any longer it's because you are convicted of a sin and not walking right with the Lord. I got out but my other half hasn't. Until recently, he left prostelization cards around the house and would send me videos. My marriage is over in part because of them. They veiw women are to just do as your husband says. It's not happening.

I voted for Trump in 2016 because I believed that Clinton and the Dems were coming after Christians and that Trump would protect us from this perceived persecution. I started pulling away in 2020 when I began to see how radically politicized church and religion had become. If you don't worship at Trump's altar, you are not a "real Christian." The point is not what kind of people they were, my point is that they were loyal to a man who wasn't loyal to them. Not only were they arrested, but he has also called them idiots, and then with a slap in the face he pardons Kodak Black and Lil Wayne but not one Jan. 6th protester. He sent them there, and that was the thanks they got. SMDH It's wrong to use fear over people.

We could never understand why he could say bold face lies and people would believe him. Your explanation helped us to understand. It's easy for me to look back and think, "How did anyone believe Trump would be a good fit?" but hindsight 20/20. I forget that in 2016, I hated both Trump and Hilary, heavily partook in "both sides equally bad", and straight up didn't vote. I didn't think Trump was so bad that he needed to be voted against and I didn't think Hilary Clinton was good enough to vote for because of her association with her husband and the things he's done. I was low-key a conspiracy theorist who assumed that no one wins on accident, and the 'deep state" always decides which one will win to ensure more political distractions, that democrats and republicans pretend to fight each other but are actually all working against us. No more. Every vote matters, every single time. EVERY election matters, on the presidential, and local level. It all matters.

No worries, no judgement here. My preacher Dad was a lifelong conservative who actually pounded the pavement for the Republican Party. He refused to vote for Trump. He said that Trump hijacked his party. While on his dying bed, he woke up and angrily said “ why is Trump standing next to my bed”. My Dad did not hate people, except Trump. And… he would wake from dreams saying how arrogant he (my Dad) was to believe that only those in the Church of Christ would make it to heaven. Every time he would wake he would have a new revelation. I asked him if his mind was reviewing his life as he slept? His answer was “yes”. I believe this is God’s plan and a process you go through before you die. Trump is not a Christian.

The way she described non-conservative non-evangelical Christian’s living in the Bible Belt is accurate. It took a lot of me to forgive “Christian’s” for their worship of this man. I prefer Christ’s love to whatever they got going on. But even that has taught me that I should not hate others for hating others or judge others for judging others. Thank you for your grace in admitting and growing from this. May so we all.

@georgiafain3747 I was a JW FOR OVER 50 years. Born in. The mishandling of the CSA was just the beginning for me. When I started to research the beginning & start of this CULT along with the false doctrines, it proved to me how sinister and fraudulent the entire organization is & how it's a business masquerading as a religion. I am very happy that many people are waking up to the manipulation and deception of a lot of organizations & institutions that are manipulating the minds of people for personal gain & ultimate control over their lives, as slaves. Watchtower should & will be held accountable. Governments all over the world are now recognizing what these types of cultures are doing to innocent members and their children.

This pretty much highlights a lot of issues I have with highly conservative Christians. I'm Christian too, just very tolerant and willing to reach across the isle. It is such a shame that when people think of Christians, they think of conservative Christians only. I have literally stopped referring to myself as a Christian and started calling myself "spiritual" just to not immediately be associated with the negative connotations that people pin on Christianity as a whole because of the conservative side.

I was raised southern Baptist, my Grandfather was the Preacher, my aunt played the piano and led the choir. It was a 1 room old church and no more than 30 people for the congregation in a very small town. At 18 I joined the Army and had an opportunity to explore other Catholic and Protestant branches of Christianity. I honestly don’t know how anyone can call these hate filled Preachers and congregations Christian in any sort of the word! Jesus is the past, present and future! Not some politician with a (D) or (R) by their name! Jesus was persecuted, not the persecutor driving the nails!

I don’t hate you for having your free choice to vote for who you wanted to vie for. We are a free country and voters have the right to vote for who they want. Nobody should be hating on you for the voting choices you made no matter if they agree or not. I worked at a place where 90% the staff was Maga. Had to hide from them that i voted for Biden. I hate that i had to hide it and didn’t stand up for myself.

As a European, this is very difficult to understand for me. In my family, we had very different political and religious views, but this was never a real issue. As I understand it, in the US one's political affiliation is like a religious dogma. You are born into a republican/democratic family, and you should never change. Sad... politics and religion should be kept separate. We can have the same religious faith but vote for different parties.

Can confirm, this is 100% true. I've thought a lot about why my views changed despite the indoctrination, when others' haven't. I think it comes down to two things 1) Critical thinking/scientific curiosity and 2) Exposure to people with different beliefs and cultures. But this is exactly why the GOP and evangelical Christians keep defunding public education, especially higher ed where students meet other people from a huge variety of backgrounds.
