These last 2 vids are priceless mate - I have people often asking me why I prefer to live & explore "3rd world countries" - its hard to explain so from now on im going to share these 2 vids with them - maybe, just maybe they will finally understand. They just dont get how warm, generous, humanistic, clever, resourceful people these indiginous folks are - poor as fk in so many ways BUT such a joy to be with. Great filming & stills, particularly the backlit shots of Nini - in 20 years time they will bring a smile to her face mate.

I've found that most people who ask such questions have never ventured to countries such as this. When they do, very few leave here not wanting to return. Cheers mate 👍

Hey brother,,,why do you do this to me ,man? Got me to thinking we'd been everywhere,,then you spring Phongsali on us! What a priceless place.. ancient buildings,,ancient paver streets,,views,,sweet friendly people and one superb,,unique market. That's as you said,,unlike any other. That was the best market squizz in a good long time. That amazing system of natural light was what caught my attention too. Food looked top notch. Phongsali is right at the top,,,lol,,of my newest favorite place in Lao. Omg,, those old buildings! It's kinda interesting,,most ancient architecture thrives around human association. Old places,,even unmaintained,,that have humans around age far better than places seldom visited. Lol hey,,not to out crude you,,but if the evil empire has a hill to looks down,,,I'd tell Neenee to turn her head and I'd drop trou and take care of my bidness! Probably get shot in the ass by a zealous E.E. border guard. Thank you guys for visiting this beautiful and interesting old town. Take care,,Ttyl,,,Marlon

What an amazing trip, Phongsali is beautiful and long may it survive. That market and the local people were every photographers dream, the light was fantastic. Thanks for sharing with us. Out of interest roughly how long would a trip like that take at an unhurried pace, travelling say from and back to Vientienne? Hope you get the car 4 w/d fixed soon, some of those roads looked like they could be a bit hairy with just 2 w/d. Thanks again and travel safely.

Hey Phil.. if traveling only to Phongsali from Vientiane, I'd give yourself at least 4 days to drive up there. Yes it could be done quicker but what's the hurry, it is Lao PDR after all, (Lao Please Don't Rush). We were only there 3 nights, but i'd really like to spend a minimum of a week next time, so many areas of that city we never got to explore. All up we were on the road 27 days I think, but we did go to many other places also. Where you guys are up to watching this series we're only about 10 days into the trip. Plus, vid of how we get the car fixed and scammed.. lots more adventure still to come from this trip Phil and places you may want to add to your trip up here 👌 Cheers mate

Been to Dangsavan 3 times but everytime i wanted to explore more of Laos. You are right i think its worth getting up at stupid o clock to see this market. With point of view camera angle and patting the dog it feels like a video game. Laos still seems so magic, we should visit before it all changes

Hey friend, it seems many films were captured here so you and Nini had spent many weeks in this village? At the beginning of the clip it shows the date that was in December 11, 22, so are you reposted the vdo ?. It looked like you spent many weeks to stay at the village that was so wonderful thing friend. Your experience explorations were fantastic and cool, I wish I do have much green as you and Nini do so I can take my whole family to travel most beautiful places as I want to. It's OK, you have done so many good things to everyone such as taking many vdos for someone who can't afford the price. Thank friend!!

Phongsaly looks great Todd. But judging by those beautiful blue skies you must have been lucky enough to get up there before they set light to every bit of greenery in the north. Here in LPB we literally haven’t seen the sky for weeks 😢

Regarding the name of Phongsaly province (in Lao - ຜົ້ງສາລີ), also spelled in English as Phôngsali. In Thai สาลี (Sah+ Lee-) refers to "wheat" in, as it does in Lao (ສາລີ). ຜົ້ງ in Lao is like ผง (Pohng+) in Thai which means powder. Phongsaly or Phôngsali or better Pohngsahlee might thus mean "wheat flour" which the Thais might call แป้ง สาลี "Bpaang! Sah+ Lee-".
