So happy for you all. As an adoptive father of four Lao refugee children who began school only speaking a few words of English, I can tell you that she will catch up very quickly. She will also have the advantage of being firmly bilingual.

My face was wet with tears of the heart throughout this video. Mina is a treasure to you, Todd and Neenee, and you both are the greatest treasure in her life. Part of her "communication skills" are as a result of you both making her feel safe, and valued. It brings a new confidence inside her. When you did the video where you spoke of her going back and not being with you, I felt your pain as mine. But, mostly I felt Mina's pain and loss, knowing at her age she had no way of understanding any of it. Her loss and pain was incomparable. One of the greatest treasures we can give a child is to pass on a skill. A how to build, or do, or make something. It is a powerful event in a child's life, as it shows them that they are valuable as a human for you to take the time and effort to do so. When we pass on these skills we are co-authors in building a human being. As in the incredible importance of learning to do so, and the act of reading. Reading is a co-creation between the author and the reader. The author supplies the words and the reader supplies the images the words bring forth. Critical for a child's development of imagination and creative thought. Mina has a great treasure in her 'school marm' Neenee. And of you Todd, in teaching her so patiently and encouragingly the skill of riding a bicycle. You both are teaching her what love and care is. Carry on, mate !

Todd I am so happy for Mina and you two. A great chance at life now for Mina. My "niece" in Issan just turned 6 in June and looks like Mina with the missing teeth too. She only see's her mum and dad once a year at best, her actual parents are her fathers parents, she calls me dad! Todd as you suggested its not uncommon for family memebers to raise the children, My niece's parents stay in Bangkok for work. I have met them a few times while I have been in Bangkok, meanwhile I sponsor the little girl by sending money to her grandparents who also send her to 'english" school , thats a school between terms that the kids can learn English

What a beautiful way to wake up. ty for sending me this string of videos (How Mina came to be with us). You and Neenee are awesome parents ( want to adopt a 62 year old lol). Good things happen later in life. Take me for instance I've went to school and received a degree past 50 years old (during covid), i brought my first car right before covid in the middle of a snow storm and learned how to drive past 40.( I had a major fear of driving. What really good news. I have been watching you for 3 years or more and when Mina stepped in your lives it was like the missing piece was finally there. CONGRADULATIONS!!! I'm so happy for you, Neenee and Mina. You and Neenee will make great parents. It isn't about how old you are, it's about how much love you can give that child. It is always good to go through the proper channels and get everything done properly instead of taking short cuts. It is very unfortunate that villages in remote areas have little to no access to education. I visited 5 Hmong villages in remote areas and only 1 had a teacher come teach. Most students had to walk 1 hour or more to get to school. Mina is a very bright child and I'm sure with all the extra work Neenee is giving to her, she'll catch up.

OMG Todd, between the video you didn't want to make and now this one, you have emptied my tank of tears. Thank goodness the happy tears came after the sad ones. You are really such a special family and you're all 3 of you absolutely glowing from the joy of this development. Educators have to be careful in their representations -- and in Vientiane, they probably are aware of the current day consensus that children who are a bit older than their classmates tend to do better than the kids whose birthdays cause them to be the youngest in the class, so I can understand why the school thought about placing her a year back. But I will wager my entire social security check that this will be no issue for her at all. She's quite clearly very bright, add in her energy, people skills and the excellent parenting she now has, she will be a superstar in her class before this school year is over. It is such a beautiful story and the complications of some weeks back makes it now even more beautiful and joyful. Thank you for giving us a window to your wonderful lives. You're certainly correct that all your dedicated viewers feel the love for Mina and also for you and Neenee.
