Hi Todd from America! I appreciate your videos and I love all the wonder charity work you and you wife do for the people of Laos. I was just wondering if you ever found that little girl that was asking for candy and you didn't understand what she was saying. I would like to donate some money to her to buy candy, if you are ever going back to that town. Please, 🙏 let me know. Thank you.

Indeed she is! My girlfriend in Los Angeles, California migrated from Vientiane when she was in her mid-30's. Her family had enough resources to send her to a good schools like Mina is attending. They had formal classes in English for her to learn when she was perhaps just a few years older than Mina. They taught her well - she speaks English well, but not fluently, and that's without the benefit of having parents who converse in English at home as Mina now does. So Mina will probably learn and speak fluently given how young she is starting when the language learning sector of your brain is a sponge.

Beautiful work Todd! Also good to see you get to hang out and enjoy the company of another English speaking gentleman who is also living an adventurous life in SEA. I don't think I've ever seen rain come in like that - I think you called it a "wall of rain"? Well, that's what it was. Watching the video makes it look like there's no prelude to the storm. It hits with a furious deluge from the first moment - but gentle, not too much wind and no thunder and lightning. A gift for the kids to play in, cool off the grown-ups, shower the animals, nourish the land, and make some of those roads and trails impassible. Some looked like they couldn't handle much more rain before the storm, and then a fresh deluge. Yikes...I'm too old to tame this environment! 🥴 But there was a bit of untamed wild youth for me in an earlier century. Now seems a tragedy there was no practical quality video to record those times.

Great video guys, thanks for taking us along. Ostriches... They're flippin mental as well as being like Dinosaurs. I spend a fair bit of time in S. Africa and a little while back I was stood alongside a paddock just talking to friends on their farm. One of the Bar-stewards took a fancy to my arm and pecked me. I litterally thought I'd been shot, and the bruise next day was something else. Mina was right to stand well back, they're lightning fast and it bl@@dy hurts, they could do serious injury or kill a child. They also have a ferocious claw which would rip an adult man open if he got kicked. Don't let kids anywhere near them. Ostrich Steak? not much taste because there's no fat,.OK if you're really hungry but don't go out of your way for it. The eggs make the biggest omlette you've ever seen but you need a hammer, or better still a hacksaw to crack open the shell.

Howdy brother, great little weekend trip! Nice to see Mina making friends with English speaking kids her age. So much to see and learn for our little genius. Ostriches were a big fad in the U.S. in the 90s and early 2000s. I knew probably 15 people that raised emus and ostriches. Not a single one is still doing it. There was a novelty market for the eggs and meat.. make omelets for 6 off one egg . They had a wierd taste. The meat was ok,,most people hated it. Personally I preferred emu meat,,but both have a kind of strong medicinal taste,,kinda gross ,,really. By 2005 noone wanted to carry ostrich meat because most people that tried it hated it. Most everyone lost money. One rancher I knew had over 1500 of them and they were doing nothing but eat. He finally bulldozed a pit and shot his remaining birds,,because by then noone would buy them. At one time in Montana and Wyoming there were maybe 25 or 30 thousand birds,,now maybe a couple hundred tops. I've had pretty good barbecued emu though. I think your friend understated their stupidity 😂,,I think they might have as many as 5 brain cells floating about their tiny craniums. The ones I knew must have been blue necks,,because they were some mean bastards. All I can say is good luck,,maybe people that enjoy the taste of many things kinda unusual to us,,they might like the Medicine tasting meat. Take care Todd,,Neenee and Mina. Ttyl,,,Marlon

Hi Guys Well that was interesting. The native pigs are called "mulat" and they are a fairly faty meat compared to the large whites.Alex has a really nice spread, and is food for thought for me as to a new project for us. The main issue as always is the cost of the protein feed part of the diet. I can help out with some ideas on that if he would like to get in touch, and maybe pay us a vist (as we don't have a car)

Great vlog Todd. It's not every day that you come across an Ostrich Farm in Laos. They were all the rage in UK about 25 years ago when Ostrich meet was seen as the future sye to it being very lean and low in cholesterol. The problem was slaughtering them as, of course, that had to be done humanely. The Ostrich farm near where I lived had to get a special truck in, with slaughterman to do the job! How is it done in Laos? Grest to se Mina in that water, she is a real waterbabe. I see a lot of those pink buffalos around here in Thailand. I think that without the pigmentation they get a little sun burned. 🙂God bless all 3 of you. 😀❤🙏

We drain the blood from the neck, cover the head first obviously. Tie the feet together. Generally don't slaughter the for meat but sell the chicks. When the birds get sick we will kill it for us and the restaurants.....the industry will survive as the beef and pork industries produce too much carbon for the planet and we will have to use other options. Small scale farming with less space will be the future.

Alligators almost went the way of the American Bison but the commercial farms actually helped save them. They must contribute a percentage of eggs to be returned to the wild. Louisiana now has a very vibrant population. Good luck in your endivers.@@williamstropicalfarm5082
