Nick P you don't understand the purpose and the history behind the way that Jennifer sings. She's a gospel singer. And riff or run or long belted note you hear her sing comes from gospel. Before Dreamgirls with Micheal Bennet she was in Your Arms are Too Short Too Short to Box with God, and before that she was singing solos in her church choir. Gospel music is ALL about emotion and trust me the producers of this tribute wouldn't have chosen her if they weren't sure that she would have given such an emotional performance. Jennifer has claimed to actually BE Effie White many times and it's funny because your comments mirror those that her doubters were making about her in Dreamgirls.

There have been many versions of this song with the original being sung by Gladys Knight and the Pips when it was titled, "Heroes" but no one has done it better than this version. This is an outstanding performance!!! Not to leave out Patti LaBelle's live version of this song on the UNCF fund raiser posted on KZbin. Two great singers with exceptional range and power!!!
