I’ve heard this done really well by a couple of singers (most notably Jennifer Hudson) who haul in every ounce of power they can muster, but none of them come close to Jennifer Holliday. I watched a recording of the original show and despite the terrible quality of the video her performance moved me to not only tears, but all out sobs. The raw emotion and pain was palpable. Anyone who has ever had their heart ripped out can relate to this song. Such talent and grace !
