My 17 year old cousin was born HIV positive. Her Mom told her when she was 15 and up until then, she was taking her meds well. The problem started when she turned 16 I believe. She stopped taking her meds and now her health is deteriorating and she's starting to develop sores all over her body and in her mouth so she can't eat and she's losing weight drastically. Things got so bad last year December that her Mom started to actually bathe her. I love her so much and I just want her to be ok. She actually told me that she's tired of taking treatment because she's been doing it all her life. Guys ke kgathetse hle. I've even resorted to bribing her with metarial things just for her to take her treatment but dololo help. I just wanted to vent😭😭

I am a nurse by profession and have a beautiful niece who is in her adolescents, she is taking her treatment well but I feel like she can use support system or seeing that there are some of her peers who go through what she is going through. I really needed this. I carried the burden 4 14 yrs that I was not enough 4 my mum to take the pills to stay alive, even just 4 me (her only child). I also know on my more mature days that it was not about me, and it was her choice, for her life... still sad. However listening to u could give me a tiny incline of her mindset at the time... And this is the part you don't hear in the HIV/AIDS discussions. Sometimes I think that if my friend had told me he was dealing with this I could have encourage him to take his medication and keep living. His first wife passed almost 10 years before him. They had 4 children. He passed it on to his 2nd wife who is undetectable. He just gave up and stopped taking the pills. Maybe it was the daily reminder the pill(s) would bring. I'll never know. It pains me when I hear people say, "Oh, it's treatable. I'll just take a pill." They don't realize that that's a pill until further notice. Furter notice may be a loooong time for most. I'd rather not. Know your status. Know the status of your partner. Stay safe out here.

I hope to God that I am not going to sound like I am stigmatising, but a lot of young people are engaging in risky sexual behaviour because they think if they get HIV, they can simply take pills and live long healthy lives. Public clinics are sometimes the reason why people can't take their pills. Sometimes you do get tested without pre-counselling they'd say "if it has to lines your hiv positive, if not you are negative" and that's not counselling.

Chronic medication is the worst. At some point that medication becomes the enemy and finding excuses not to take it becomes the daily routine.. I used to despise my asthma medication and thinking that my life depended on it really used to take an emotional toll, chronic medication is heavy on anyone.

We are very quick to judge something as simple as taking a pill daily to a person who does not have to seems irresponsible, we should try to be more understanding I didnt know about pill fatigue until now...oh but actually I get now most people are lazy to take contraceptives because wow its a lot to consume daily...I get it now ❤️

Thank u 4 this video. My late mother only took the pill once. She said they gave her bad dreams, and so she never took it again. 2 yrs later she was dead from an opportunistic infection.

@Writing Pad I’m currently going through the same thing. I’ve tried to convince my mother otherwise. She’s left the pills so many times and I suspect she’s left them again. I now have an idea of what she is going through, because I always thought I should give her tough love. You know give her reasons to take the medication. She even said that if she didn’t have us (her kids) she would gladly go to her ancestors. I found out that my late dad infected her when I was asking why she was taking pills, and she shouted “because your father infected me with HIV”. This happened probably in 2013-14. I honestly was in so much shook, I didn’t process it. Thought she had just said that to hurt my feeling. Now that I’m a lil older, I can understand why she always lashed out at me, because I remind her of my father. I honestly love my mother even thou she has a lot of healing to do, but thank God I did some sort of Psychology so I can understand and see when she is emotional. But honestly I’m stuck. I feel stuck. I’m depressed. I mean it’s just a mess. I don’t know what else to do. But I still pray and ask God, but I feel like God is preparing me. I literally will not have any parents if she leaves me, but I now understand that it is not about me. That’s a very hard pill to swallow. I feel like I’m allowing her to give up😢

@@moshididitshego2472 babe, it's just not easy hey. I used 2 fantasise about crushing it up and putting it in her food. My mum scared me, so really I wouldn't have dared, even if I knew where she kept them. She was so stubborn, just like that, just one night and her mind was made up. I was just 19 and really did not understand the implications of her simply not taking them. I knew nothing about the virus. I often wish I had had the internet then (14 yrs ago), a channel like this might have saved her life. I wish I had spoken up and tried to give her tough love like u did (well done), but I was scared of her temper (she also lashed out at me). & I also did not want to scare her. As I watched her become thin and wither away, we just did not talk about the elephant in the room. I wish I had spoken up, shouted at her, called a doctor... anything. But my immature brain saw it best to stay quiet (and I was sooo scared myself because of lack of knowledge). With hindsight, I'm not sure what difference I would have made even if I had, she was a scientist. She made medicines in the lab, and still refused. I'm basically an orphan now as dad was always a ghost. Life is so sad sometimes. I would happily swap details with you so I can just be ur support when u want to tap into it (email me [e-mail]). Even God himself can't prepare you for losing your mother. It hurts soooooo bad, all these years later I'm still depressed about losing her. Especially as it felt like she committed suicide. Your mum will not join my mum anytime soon! She will find her strength, forgive your dad as best she can, and accept her reality. Then she will live to be an old woman and look after her grandkids. I will be praying, I don't want no1 else to feel that pain 'unnecessarily'... much love x
