That's an interesting transfer case being able to select awd or rwd

It very much is so. G'day from Western Australia 5:30 am here. It's called select trac and was not an option here in Australia so we need to get them from America. Not sure if they are available in other countries as well as America? A transfer case that has 4WD and 2WD is normal across the board but AWD and 2WD is not as far as I know. If you use that with the Quadra Drive 2 system you get a impressive system as the diffs are LSD's. Sadly I do not think the front D30A and rear D44A will be able to handle what I am about to throw at them but we shall see. If they blow they blow lol. Thanks for watching. Rik

@@BuiltByRik G'day from SE Queensland. A transfer case that can select between awd and rwd is very uncommon but is exactly what i was looking for for a project. Thanks for the info Rik, I'm keen to see your build progress. Would you do a teardown video on the transfer case? I'm curious to know how it selects between awd and rwd. Cheers. Max

@@straightouttastraya It seems to be in good condition so no plan as off yet to do a teardown. I myself am also somewhat curious on how it works. I can look it up on my 2199 page workshop manual. TRANSFER CASE - NV242 DESCRIPTION The NV242 is a full transfer case (Fig. 1). It provides full time 2-wheel, or 4-wheel drive operation. A differential in the transfer case is used to control torque transfer to the front and rear axles. A low range gear provides increased low speed torque capability for off road operation. The low range provides a 2.72:1 reduction ratio. OPERATING RANGES NV242 operating ranges are 2WD (2-wheel drive), 4x4 part-time, 4x4 full time, and 4 Lo. From the illustrations it seems to have a built in differential. It looks like a planetary style differential. If you would like a manual you can download it free from my cloud. Just message me on Facebook. facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086781586412 Thanks for the sub. Rik

@@BuiltByRik Thanks for the information Rik it’s much appreciated. If I can’t find one of these transfer cases for sale I can replicate it from a parts diagram. I’ll send you a message on facebook in a little bit. Cheers. Max

@@straightouttastraya I was so lucky to get mine the way I did especially since they were never released here in Australia. I will look for the message.
