still haven't covered the issue draconic spirit is a concentration spell and baradun has used several concentration spells without losing it at this point, i mean the rage alone should have gotten rid of it since you also cannot concentrate well raging. you'd need to retcon an entire episode to make this not skewed in baraduns favor at this point. i understand you might feel the need to give baradun an advantage cause of potential low health, but this is getting a bit much.

Exactly. The "dum" barbarian making strategic choices and following the rules, while the "smart" sorcerer constantly cheating and abusing everything in their power. In this video he suddenly remembered about concentration for his major image! Now that it was useless. (Which by the way was cheating, the moment Bob shot it, that's it, he knows it's an illusion. The freaking Baradun can't use his reaction to do that to cover the illusion, from another room, from another place of existence! But what am I talking about, the cheating has gone through the roof)

Sure it's frustrating, but this is a first run of it anyway. Plus, and don't take my word because I'm not a patron or a kickstarter backer or anything so I don't get any videos early, but honestly Baradun's still getting fucked up and I doubt he comes out on top so like, eh. It's entertaining imo, it's in character, and I'm pretty confident it won't matter in the end so like 🤷🏻‍♀️. They just can take it as something to work out better next time or something

@@andyventures6574 You can't really do that mechanically with a grapple by Wotsit using 5e rules, that and Baradun is currently Blink'ed, so Wotsit can't interact at all with Baradun on Wotsit's turn, and even if Wotsit could, Blink would end the grapple / restrain/ silence effect on a successful roll by Baradun. Blink being on a ring also has Baradun avoid the counters to the spell (it being case by an item after all removes its costs altogether, same with ring of spell storing, which you could effectively give Greg an encounterable spell to abuse on need).

i swear it's starting to annoy me a bit that rowan has taken like over 50 non existing damage from fake dragons, rage spells, double concentration cast (even when paralysed he got exhaustion while staying in the same location so he would've taken damage). And then hearing adam say "you started your turn here so you take the location damage" would make me go crazy if i was playing. Obviously love you all guys keep up the good work!

That's the problem with PvP with relatively inexperienced players I guess, they have to track not only how their own characters work (which to be gair they should by now), but everyone else's abilities instead of relying on the DM to explain what their enemies are doing.

When it's the players vs the world and the DM is there to tell an interactive story and provide a challenging but fair opposition then it's perfect, and that's what D&D is designed for. You can change, ignore and forget some rules, and it won't come in the way of the fun. But when it turns into a PvP arena, then the DM is supposed to become a perfect arbiter and if you miss anything it becomes unfair.

While that's true, most of the time none of them even know where Baradun's position is. I don't think you can ready an attack and ready an investigation check to find where he is. Baradun is definitely getting away with a lot of things, but that probably isn't one.

And at least half of the times he blinks away from right within their line of sight. They have seen it often enough that it's not metagaming to know that he has to reappear within 10 feet of where he disappeared. My comment was more a statement that as long as you know about held actions, blink is nowhere near as overpowered as they are making it out to be.

Concentration check is a constitution saving throw, he only has disadvantage on skill checks. I fully agree Baradun has had a lot of cheats in his favour, but that wasn't one of them :/​@@hildebos1653

He won't -- he's running out of sorcery points. He might last long enough to kill one but he doesn't have enough to finish all 3. Even Greg has better physical attacks & higher AC than Baradun, so if it comes down to melee he'll still be spent. Mind you he is also exhausted from the raging.

He has heard the dragon, the trading of attacks, Bodger yell that Baradun is a fake (which must be confusing), and Bodger calm down. I imagine he is fairly confused.

Alright, I'm officially joining the chorus of calling bullsh*t on Adam getting away with waaaay too much. You forced Rowan to drop rage when he was paralyzed for a single turn, but you let Adam cast a spell on a turn where he was still raging? _and_ let him keep concentrating on his dragon (yes, it died the next turn, that is besides the point)? Then force Ben to make an investigation check _after_ a successful attack (which is an interaction that should have given him immediate knowledge of the illusion) and then still give Adam a check to see if he could manipulate it from the blink plain as a reaction? This on top of the double concentration earlier in the game, plus him only having to make his checks half the time when someone else calls him out on it (but _he_ makes dang sure everyone else is making their checks). He either needs to actually study his spells to make sure he knows their requirements, or he needs to stop cheating.

As a DM i know it can be a lot to keep track of especially when doing pvp so props to Robert for that and also the amazing terrain and effects. However the amount of mistakes by players and DM is just painful, my biggest issue is the major image. If you allow Adam to adjust the image on anothers turn to keep up the illusion (according to RAW) and then still expect them to use their action to "double check" then it should use Adams action from his next turn. Still enjoying it overall but it is a very subpar effort by everyone, players not knowing their character and keeping themselves honest and dm bending rules wherever convenient but not consistent.

Baradun gets too many free passes. Blink negates the staying in location penalties, he seemingly ignores concentration rules and checks, completely ignores Rage drawbacks, gets a powered up version of Major Image to avoid detection by Bob interacting with it, retconning his turn to hide, meta gaming the need to add magical guidance so Greg can't perceive him, then getting annoyed it's still not enough against Bob, so he meta game targets Bob with the dragon. Was a frustrating turn to watch play out I guess. That said, redeemed by Baradun burning the dragon's Opporunity Attack on Wotsit.

You are forgetting the over amount of sorcery points he used. Someone here calculated that if they are lvl 13th (13sorcery points), he is way past that (Recover 5th level spell, quicken x2, Magical guidance x2 or x3, Bend luck x1). Is there a way to get more other the class itself ? Otherwise, the 8 out of 10 blink away ... something is off.

I wouldn't call an opportunity attack which would deal a bit of damage on Bob as "redeeming" for the aforementioned. But at the same time, it's not just Adam and Rob forgetting stuff; the other players did not notice either. It's a normal mistake and it's on all of them. Bodger lost his first rage even though he took cold damage at the start of that turn. Greg casted Blink *even though he doesn't have the spell.*

@@realtreble1 For the blinks, there's no reason to cheat. He rolls in plain sight. It was just luck on his side. Now, onto the usage of sorcery points: 5th level spell = 7 sorcery points. 2 quickens = 4 sorcery points. 2 Magical guidance = 2 sorcery points. 2 Bend lucks = 4 sorcery points. So, unless he burned a spell slot in the background to regain sorcery points, that's a lvl 17 sorcerer's sorc points. I assume on his panic to magical guidance/bend luck on a single saving throw in order to, essentially, not die, he forgot to mark his spent sorc points.

Love the PvP, just gonna leave a tip here, magical guidance doesn't add on top of a roll like used here (aka would turn that 14 stealth(arcana) check into a 7, not 21), nor can you reroll after you've used it like used in previous episode, it's a last effort to turn a failure potentially into a success: "Magical Guidance (Optional) When you reach 5th level, you can tap into your inner wellspring of magic to try and conjure success from failure. When you make an ability check that fails, you can spend 1 sorcery point to reroll the d20, and you must use the new roll, potentially turning the failure into a success." Important here: "and you must use the new roll" Just leaving this here, not tagging anyone, if you want to play like intended you can, I don't mind anymore if you don't - I'll just treat it as a story game (edit): which is the most important and fun part so whatever, wish you big success and a lot of fun while doing so! This was fun and fun is the most important :D Cheers!

In the case of rage, I think they forgot the second part of rage which is "you can't concentrate on spells while raging". Because they barely caught the first part of it which was "you can't cast spells while raging", one whole round later.

The whole Major Image scenario was a bit rough....but in the spell description, the spell calls for an Intelligence(Investigation) Check, so Perception has no bearing on being able to tell if it's an illusion :)

Bodger does bring up a good point. I feel if the illusion doesn't make logical sense then the player (or dm) would be able to surmise that it's most likely magic of some sort. Not that it has to be an illusion, they could use fire resistance to stand in lava, but if the environment doesn't interact with it then it would give it away. This very much is a table by table case though. I, personally, would allow for perception checks against illusions if the illusion is out of place

This bit of canon actually predates the TTRPG campaign. I don't think he would have knowledge of other characters stat sheets and rolls though. From the sound of it he wasn't going to use magical guidance prior to Rob saying that Greg has a perception of 15. So I still don't think he should have used it.

Adam talking directly to rowan for the dragon attacks... rowan takes extra damage because adam just listed off damage so rowan wouldn't know if his rage can halve it the 6 should have been halved to a 3 because of rage and keep the halved fire damage because of the successful dex save. So many little advantages for Adam that add up over the course of the game.

But you can't cast spells from the Ethereal plane that will affect the Material plane. There are funny and strong combos you can do with any concentration spell and Blink (or Etherealness). Like, Blade of Disaster (lvl 9 concentration, works like spiritual weapon but much, much stronger) and Etherealness. Just hope they don't dispel your Blade.

Greg is being hilarious. Just making the only real threat he has in baradun waste all his resources fighting bodger and bob. Once Baradun dies, it's pretty much over for the other two lol Harm, Guiding bolt lvl 3/4/5 spam, heal when the other two fluke into beating his AC and it's done. Oh yeah and he's set it up to where he can abuse the doors while the others have to worry about the guardian. Honestly, if Bob and Bodger realized they could ready attacks for when people come back from blinking Baradun might already be dead or very badly injured. Blink isn't nearly as OP as they are making it out to be. They just aren't countering it properly so it seems like it is.

Summon Draconic Spirit is cast on a point one can see. That means Baradun had to step out from behind the door to cast the spell, which has verbal and somatic components. Bodger knows where the dragon comes from (Baradun), so he would look around to see where Baradun is.

Totally disagree with Baradun getting to cast the action to see if he can make the "wound" bleed for Bob to see. He had blinked out and should not be allowed an action while in the ethereal plane. Same with the lava. Baradun is not physically there to cast anything.

I would love nothing more than to see Rob get someone to fill in as DM and so he could build a character same level and battle the guys in this setting…😈 Awesome episode! Love Rob’s reaction to Greg’s blink 😂 Would love to see the next PvP battle go 2v2 if you guys do more of these. The dynamic might be more interesting and it might teach these guys more of the cool synergies that are possible between abilities and attacks as a team.

I don't usually watch other groups gaming. I find it a little boring and a small part of me at the back of my brain says isn't that a bit uncomfortably nerdy (this from a 57 year old man who has been regularly gaming for over 35 years). However, I have really enjoyed watching this PvP battle. Maybe it is due to the nature of the way it has been set up, or maybe it is just how much fun 5 friends are having together. What ever it is, keep it up. Well done to Robert for setting this up and running so well. I might have to steal the idea for my dysfunctional group. They would have a riot. I honestly expected to see Greg winning this when the game started. Alan played very well on the first rounds and now just healcamping with his weapon. If Bodger can catch up to Bob or Baradun, they might be dead in two turns. So my bet is now on Bodger. Baradun still has his lvl 6 and 7 spells, but he keeps doing almost nothing on his turns so I don't have high hopes even with so many advantages he has gotten.

I dont think you can really blame Adam here. It's your job to track your own status, spells and abilities, so in this situation Ben should have reminded him that he's hidden and Adam tracking his own position and blink status should be commended instead of criticized. It's a pure chaos PvP situation and commenters for some reason are hating at the only player who always has been playing strategically and tracking his status/abilities. TBH aside from that rage that was confusing for everyone the only real big bad call that went in favor of Adam was having concentration both on dragon and hold monster at the same time (that was deus ex machina nullified after a turn anyway). However the importance of the dragon in this fight is heavily overstated by most people. "They are wasting attacks on a dragon that should have disappeared!" yeah, because most of the time the dragon is the only thing they can see, because spellcasters are keeping distance and Greg blocked the doors, so Bob and Bodger can't reach anyone. And if the dragon wasn't there Bodger would most likely drop rage atleast one more time due to no damage taken and no viable target for attack, so he'd be running with double exhaustion and limited movement speed which arguabely would hurt him more. And at the very end of the episode Rob specifically stated that Baradun has full control of the dragon and he would know not to waste attack of opportunity on Wotsit, but Adam did it anyway to let Bob do his thing, which he didn't have to do and probably shouldn''t if we're being so strict with analysis of the rulings. but yeah, everything favors the sorcerer that burned through all of his resources and potions already and the fight is rigged. lets blame the player for actually paying attention, not the others for never remembering their own advantages.

And you can't commend him on keeping track of blink he actively wants to make sure that everyone is aware he blinked because they can't hurt him when he has. And I agree for the most part he does a good job of keeping track of things but there are little things that add up like Ben needing to take the hide action to be hidden but Adam deciding they aren't looking so they don't know where I am without taking the hide action and their characters all know how blink works by now being around baradun long enough so they'd know the general vicinity especially with at least some of his spells having vocal components. And another thing someone else pointed out is magical guidance replaces your roll and must be used (no tides of chaos afterwards) and does not add on to it like he used this episode. Finally an attack should reveal that the illusion is in fact an illusion Rob read that part of the description before Ben fired at it but made him do a check and waste his turn anyway because he let Adam manipulate the image from the ethereal plane.

@@callumhogan2428 can't commend him for keeping track of thing he should track because it benefits him? what is even that argument. the other thing with the hiding, they are all using lines of sight here, for example Greg is unaware of most things that happened during this episode because he's chilling on the other side of the map (also not taking frost damage like he should for overstaying 2 turns, but chaos of the pvp battle benefits only baradun, right?). They are all following the lines of sight and not metagaming their positions and the joke you seem to be missing is that they purposefully going all against baradun (cos he's a dick ingame and a powerful sorcerer, remember the mutant elephant that Alan and Britt focused soloely on him? it's a running gag that the team cannot stand baradun and his bragging). Ben is making stealth checks because he is either hiding in the middle of the map, vanishing from plain sight (like jumping from clear view into a swamp, not casting a spell that can land him anywhere on the map or blinking behind an object from ethereal plane). That's why he has to make checks, because he goes from clearly visible to hidden without using magic. Furthermore he gains benefit of the advantage on attacks and sneak attack damage from it, so him hiding whenever and wherever he wants is basically how rogue plays, but you still gotta roll something if you wanna convince everyone that they didn't see you going behind the single wooden bridge that's next to you. Magical guidance even if its inconsistent with the book rules its consistent with how it always has been used in the campaign, DM has the final say in that and wheter it was a conscious decision or just a missed thing is besides the point, it's consistent with the character abilities from the campaign, which is the most important thing. Like many other not by the book things that don't irk anyone, like barbarians casting druid spells from the scrolls, but once again, its not Baradun getting the benefit of homebrew so its ok right? and finally the attack on the illusion, you yourself stated that it was DMs call how to treat the situation and it wasnt Adam that decided Ben has to make a check, it was Rob. And the first rule of D&D that is in the very first chapter of each player handbook is that the DMs decision is above the 'as written rules'. Maybe Rob thought it was unfun to just reveal it with attacking? Maybe he should force Ben to make a boring check by itself before attacking as an action (cos that's how it would actually be played out if we went 100% by the book, ironically giving the same outcome of a missed action, FOR A 3RD LEVEL SPELL, what a value!). There were multiple ways of how it could play out and Rob have chosen the one that made most sense to him of how it would actually happen in that situation. Srsly, by the book crowd is the worst part of D&D community. Fun police when it comes to things that are against what they would want and totally blind when homebrew is benefitting their favourite characters

I get the line of sight it's just when he's blinked behind a door so he tries to say bodger has no clue where he is when he's like 10ft away from where bodger last saw him it's just a small thing. Never said only baradun is benefitting but to me he seems to be benefitting more consistently. They're going for who they see as a threat and Ben is taking pot shots at everyone except greg because of his ac when he isn't looting. I'll take your word for it on magical guidance in this campaign. I didn't know the scroll was homebrew I kinda figured it would make sense that anyone could use a scroll. I never said adam decided Ben has to roll I just stated in my opinion that was in his favour and slightly annoying because there's no point stating the rules from the description of the spell if you do something else. And if he thought it was unfun to reveal it with attacking he would've done the same when bodger attacked it and then told everyone its an illusion so it was just not consistent that one has to attack and make a check one doesn't. I notice it more with Adam because of the d&d logic skit where he said he's the best d&d player in the group so it annoys me more that's all not because I dislike him.

It's quige unusual for a good DM like Rob to forget, Baradun had to do concentration checks, to keep his dragon, because he took damage and to forget, the dragon should have dissappeared, after Baradun got into a rage after wild surge. You can't concentrate on spells, if you are raging. And if I remember right, isn't Major Image a concentration spell too? Edit: Okay, I wrote this write in the middle of the video. Great content! People in the comments are calling bs left and right but come on. It’s storytelling, not an actual rule-coded video game with no exceptions and no human factor. What’s most important is storytelling and I don’t see any player getting such an advantage that would make the fight predictable and uninteresting. For what matters, Baradun was the first to become wounded and is soon to run out of both blink and spell slots while others are more or less fine, I doubt he has much chances to win at that point. So props to Rob for running that, from my personal point of view it’s quite immersive and interesting. I don’t know perfectly the DnD rules but the story makes sense to me so far ❤ (also Baradun being the most hated is also a perfect fit for that character, I hate him too😅)
