I had my Gen 1 Voodoo motor replaced for burning a quart every 300-500 miles. Did three separate oil consumption tests to verify, and it was decided I'd get a brand new Gen 2 motor. After some time spent in the shop and a very careful engine break-in period, everything is smooth sailing and have not consumed a drop of oil in 1500 miles
@HVACRTECH-83 Жыл бұрын
Glad to hear your burning issue was resolved with the new engine but to state your not burning a drop of oil is a little off lol, you do have some oil consumption whether your seeing it at the stick or not, it's totally normal and expected for these engines to consume a little bit even when in top notch shape. But glad you got yours fixed rite.

With interest rates going through the roof, and gasoline still pretty high, dealerships want to get rid of these types of cars more quickly than before. Ford though they had the high displacement flat-plane V8 crown until team Corvette came along with the LT6 and took a giant dump on ‘em. It’s a good example of taking an existing cross-plane engine architecture and trying to make it flat plane vs. designing a flat plane V8 from the ground up. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Voodoo and I’m absolutely glad that Ford built it, but it’s not in the same league as the LT6. It’s a damn shame that we’ll never see the sixth gen Camaro Z28 with the LT6 and manual trans that was planned at one point.

Key maintenance tip with a flat plane crank engine that revs high: Check and tighten every bolt to spec on the engine every 6-12 months...depending on usage (miles and high-rev-time) These flat-plane crank engines vibrate a lot more than the cross-plane engines and tend to shake everything loose.

When it comes to the GT350, the cool factor is off the charts, but when it comes to price, its cheaper to get a GT and upgrade the suspension and throw on a blower than it is to buy a GT350. You also don't have to deal with the oil consumption issues. Sure, the MT82 might not be as good, but it can be upgraded if needed. I think the GT350 is a great car if you want to leave it stock and just want a car that's faster than the GT out of the box and you're willing to constantly watch the oil/buy oil for it and refill it. I feel the same way about the Mach 1, minus the oil issue. The GT is just the perfect modder's car. Its a canvas. the Mach 1/Bullitt/GT350 are cars best left alone so they'll be worth a fortune one day because they're a special limited trim level.
@midnight3472 жыл бұрын
The gen 2 voodoo didn't seem to have oil consumption problems nearly as much. The gt350 is just an awesome looking and performing car that is a true drivers car in every sense of the word. It's a good car if you want a good base for an na beast and don't want to mess with suspension alot. Maybe do some lowering springs and call it a day. They're truly special cars. This is the last one Ford really got it right on they been swinging and missing in my eyes the past few years. You can clearly tell the company has different people at the top vs 8-10+ years ago.
@midnight3472 жыл бұрын
Also imo Mach 1 and bullit really aren't that special. Everyone has an opinion and I respect yours I just don't think those cars are special like a gt350 is. The older svt and Ford performance cars just got it right. Bullit and Mach 1 are basically glorified gts.

The gen 3 coyote has a 7400 redline and from my perspective has plenty of power at the top end. I bought my slightly used 2019GT vert with an A10, performance exhaust, 401A, and 3.55 gears for a sweet price before the price madness. My issue with the GT350 is that they never made available the digital gauge cluster. For the price they were charging, that’s a big omission.
@midnight3472 жыл бұрын
I think the analog gauges are cooler especially the unique 200 mph gauges these had. I'm not into all this digital here screen there tech they're stuffing into cars these days. I'm not trying to get a BMW or Cadillac I want a race bred special mustang that is a true drivers car in every sense of the word and the gt350 checks all the boxes. The fact it has the 200 mph analog gauges is a plus in my book. 7400 rpm is significantly lower than 8250 that is why he said it's considerably higher than any of the 5.0s which is true. An a10 gt is a super common car that is everywhere a gt350 is special and unique in every way and looks wise its far superior stock vs stock.

I drove the GT350 it was great and felt special. However I much preferred the mach1. Having the low end torque going from 1500 ish rpm up to 3 k'ish was sooo much better. The GT350 just lugged so going from normal driving to trying to change lanes/pass was just horrible. Track wise, since I'm not a pro, I really don't think I'd go any faster in the GT350. Maybe an advanced driver would be faster but for me I'm just not. So since Mach 1 has all the track "goodies" the GT350 has but also low end I chose the Mach 1 Down side is the GT350 felt and sounded special for everyday driving. The Mach 1 feels just like a 5.0 until you start to push it.

The low end torque at low RPM is a significant consideration depending on your driving style. Even my Coyote based "Roadrunner" engine in my 2013 Boss 302 with 444 HP stock and 3:73 LSD Torsen rear end (again stock) seems like it has no low end compared to my much smaller Porsche 981 S 3.4L engine. The 981 just has this pull that you can feel pushing you back in the seat. Even in higher gears. I'm still not really sure how Porsche does that but I do like that feeling and style of driving. The Laguna Seca encourages me to drive like a maniac and I can't resist. Yes, it's amazing in it's own way! So if the GT350 is even weaker at low RPM I don't think I'd like that.

The GT350 is my favorite modern Mustang. I think it’s also one of the best looking modern cars on the road. The A10 GT is a great performance bargain as well but the owners usually think they are the fastest cars in the universe.

Nice video You forgot to mention the front fenders are wider and Aluminum. The suspension is different with different knuckles and are not interchangeable. Plus the 350’s are limited production with hand assembled engines. These were not easily obtained and has dealer markups for years. I’ve had two 5.0’s, which were great, but the 350 feels special and like a completely different car. Hope to keep my 17 350 as long as possible.

only problem is you add power that 10speed starts to become no good at 700whp. Stock they have issues finding a gear. adding power they get worse. You are better with the 6speed auto if adding power and there are a few good things about the gen 3 coyote but you are still better off with a 2017 gen2 6 speed. 6 speed auto can be build and gets stock sealed 5.0 deeper into the 7s in the 1/4 than a 10 speed which Midnight performance one of the best builders of the 10r80 10spd end up having you start in 2nd gear and actually for real race applications get rid of some of the gears. Another mistake is ppl love the smooth feeling in the gt350 and swear its far more seperior to the 6spd manual in the mustang gt. Yes it feels better but when it comes to adding power you go somewhere like Calmer transmissions get a stage 2 or 3 build and the mt82 from the gt will handle tons of power when the gt350 trans goes to shit with power hence why ppl are going sequential or built mt82. Top builders like Aldoweld and midnight performance and top tuners like lund and PBD will agree with everything i said. Basically if you are staying stock the gt350 trans and 10spd auto in the gt are great . but the FPC Voodoo in the gt350 is amazing but the have a tendency to vibrate themselves to death and you will end up trading in because of this. Thats where mach 1 is great if keeping it stock you get the good trans but coyote. Gt500 only thing that holds it back is if you are a dragstrip guy ppl need to understand the dct in the gt500 was developed for roadcourse so it makes it bad at drag racing. hence why a stock sealed coyote can get into the 7s and a v8 f150 go 8s in the 1/4 but yet gt500 stock sealed can make 1200whp 1300whp but trans overtemp issues and slipping its hard to get mid 8s. impressive still. because 10k of mods get a gt500 into mid to low 9s with little upgrades. but getting into the 8s the trans will give you issues. they have done low 8s with stock dct but most running those times had to go with a turbo400 drag trans. so i say if you are traying to go fast go with a mustang gt. Stock special car go gt500 or gt350. But everyone loves upgrading
@midnight3472 жыл бұрын
You can have your tremec built to handle power just like an mt82. You are correct that if you wanna boost gen 2 coyote is the best. The engine can handle just as much as gen 3 and the 6r80 is stouter than the 10r. All those gears aren't needed when you're making big power.

The GT350 motor was such a success that Ford has decided to never build a cross plane crank motor ever again. The IMSA race team thought it was such a great design they went and used a different one. Needless to say, at the end of the day the cross plane crank motor is great sounding, but durability wise it missed the mark which will leave it as a nice collectible novelty for enthusiasts seeking a fun street car.

Sub 150k, this is the car to have for me all day everyday. If you want a high revving, 500+ hp, manual transmission car, your only other option is the porsche gt3. Nobody is selling those for less than 150k especially the manual ones. For roughly 50k-60k for a good condition regular 350 and 70k-80k for a nice R, you can’t go wrong with this thing.

Thi takes me to back in the days, the mid 90's (96) when i purchased my first car, A Saleen s281 speedster edition. Since the fox body generation Saleen had taken the torche from Shelby and with the mustang accomplished much of the same goals both on and off the track. His mustang in the pro racing circuit was winners, and in endurance GT class racing their has to be road going versions of those race cars. And similar to Shelby Saleen made a business around tuned mustangs. But his 'tunes' were so far removed from normal factory stock mustangs that they were officially classified as Saleens, serialized and had the racing DNA to prove it. The difference between factory and saleens creations were night and day. if a blind man had the ability to drive there would be no relation between the performance levels of the factory mustang versus the various models of Saleens. Going from mild to wild. Saleens drove better than ferrari's with an equally good soundtrack. they were not designed to be drag racing mustangs but instead were focused on the track, turns and balance. everything the factory mustang was not. And as such since most people here in the states were not into endurance racing, could they readily understand the higher cost of such mustangs. more over in terms of tunning suspension many third party aftermarket vendors sold handling upgrade kits, that enabled them to improve on the factory mustang, but without actual track and racing knowledge most people simply got it all wrong. And thats were Saleen accelled. Long before Ford brought back the shelby name under its own banner Saleen had laid the path to that level of performance. Saleen did it decades prior. But Ford did their homework as well. For them it began with their Boss302 of 2013. And its laguna seca edition. Ford using the same techniques as Saleen to solve the issues of the mustangs live rear axel. nutralizing its wayward ways. And with their Parnelli Jones eddition doubled down on the steering. But Ford also had one more trick, A trick that actually came from the GM camp side of things.. The magne-ride suspension upgrade for the Shelby GT 350. This made a cow dance like a gazzel around a track slowing down its dive and roll making a heavy car stiff and as nimble as a light weight sports car. And then they did something that quite of few mustang enthusiats had long wanted to see employed into the mustang... the use of a Flat plane crank. many articles were written about this, especially when comparisons were made with Ford modular 4.6 and Ferrari's 4.6 , what exactly separated the two. Ironically this much better performing engine layout was well known by Ford engineers for decades, as it was a common use for smaller displacement european engines. Their thought was that americans wanted displacement, not revs to produce power. That we wanted all our power down low in the revs making it good for dragracing and power off the line. This idea stuck, until the GT350 Fords new engineers broke from tradition, and everything that the engineers strayed from prior, they were set to execute and they did, They brought back the Shelby name, Made the FordGT, and took factory Ford back to Lemans. only thing one person did it with mustang and his own creation prior. Saleen. little known fact is that the same year the mclaren F1 debuted at lemans was also the same year Saleen RRR ran two of his racing mustangs. and but a few years later saw one of his S7' supercars win its class in the last GT1 class for lemans. Ford was going back to racing and their performance lineup all gained from that goal. So.... having long diverted from this video topic. is the Shelby GT350 worth it over a normal mustang? well in all due respect the normal mustang is a great car. but its not a Shelby GT350. and those little details in peformance amount to a vast difference in driving passion. This is the last generation of combustion performance sports cars from ford, eventually things will go electric. and no electric car will have the same passion as the beast that drinks and consumes fuel to live.

Thanks for the comparison, the GT350 is unique as a purpose built S550. I don't track mine but knowing that is much more capable of anything that I will ever throw at it is an amazing feeling. I probably would have been just as happy with a Bullitt and it's 480HP, also with it's lack of spoilers and badging just adds to it's mystique considering it's own unique sound compared to the GT350...either way how could you go wrong.....

You talked about the internet overhyping the problems with the voodoo motor. That’s also true about the MT82 trans. The MT82 is stronger than the Tremec 3160. The 3160 is definitely a better driving transmission but it’s not stronger. Keep in mind there are way more MT82’s out there and there are lots of people who drive mustangs within an inch of their life daily. I have a 17 GT making 700 HP. Car only has 32,000 miles but 17,000 of those miles are boosted. LOTS of Mexico runs, lots of roll racing. Lots of high paced mtn runs. Car has been amazing. Stock MT82 and stock clutch are doing well. I do have a Mantic Twin disk and MGW waiting to go in at some point. The only unscheduled repair my car has needed were wheel hubs on both sides.
