Good video! I bought my gen2 2019 in late 2020 with new tires and 6k miles for $58k from a Ford dealer as a CPO car. I daily’d it for first two years and I still love the car and use it once or twice a week. After reading stuff about the car on forums, I purchased a ESP warranty from a Ford dealer out east before the 3/36 warranty expired. I got the Basic one (drivetrain, major electrical/alternator, all a/c components, all suspension and steering components, brakes, minus pads and rotors covering until 2029 or 100k miles for $1,700. Great deal, I think. . It developed a vibration on the clutch pedal at 16k miles. Dealer got Ford to put in new flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and slave cylinder bearing under warranty. Fixed the vibration. At 25k miles a high pressure a/c line burst (common, I hear). Nothing else, so far. I’m sure the a/c compressor will eventually go. I change oil every 5k miles… consumes less than a quart during that time. I don’t track it, but a couple times a year it gets the curvy hill country treatment and will rev to 8k on occasion. I’m not selling it anytime soon; has 30k miles now. Just too satisfying to drive.

Excellent video, he absolutely nailed every point. I own a 2017 Gt350, bought used from a local dealership. I bought the car with 25k miles, and it is my daily driver at the moment and currently has 55k miles on her, 7k miles being “new engine” miles. Bought a similar if not the exact same warranty about 2 months into ownership, as i had read the horror stories before and after purchasing the car, and the only people who were saved and still enjoying their cobras were the people with the warranty!!! And its a good thing a did, oil consumption issues on the Gen 1 w engine. Took 5 months to sort everything out with the ford dealership and warranty but new Gen 2 engine and radiator for a $100 deductible and the cars been fantastic ever since. Even with the crazy gas mileage and insurance (insurance is not even that bad tbh), i hope i always retain this car and jeep it running, and eventually garage it, and with proper maintenance and care, i believe that can be possible. Lookin forward to more videos!

Aaaaaand this is why I am in the process of trading my 2018 GT350 for a 2022 Mach 1. I've never had any problems, but my ESP warranty will expire in June of 2026 and there's no way I want to own it out of warranty. Just like you, I will be riddled with anxiety and not able to enjoy the car. The good news is that I timed in almost perfectly. I paid 49k in July 2020 just before everything went crazy and I am getting 56k on trade. The dealer is taking my car, giving me the Mach 1 and a $3,000 check. Cancelling my ESP warranty should yield another $800ish. So, my car and almost 4 grand and I get a Mach 1 with 3500 miles.

I always wanted one of either the '19 or '20 GT350s since I thought the Gen 2 engines fixed the issues the Gen 1's had. Thanks for insight that anything can happen with these and having a warranty can save your ass. I think I'll stick to my modified '14 Mustang GT now since it's payed for and don't want anymore headaches with payments. Looking forward to more of your videos. Jay from Vancouver B.C. Canada.

I’ve been having the same thoughts. You can get a pretty nice 13 or 14 GT500 and do a few minor bolt ons and make good power! Plus I like straight line so the live axle is a plus for me. The GT350 sounds and looks a lot better but not worth all the headaches some of these owners have been having, blah.

The engine isn’t consuming oil thankfully and it drives and shifts awesome. About 6 months ago I did buy a powertrain warranty for it though through ford just for piece of mind. The main thing is keep a check on the oil. The issues come from consumption and people not checking their oil and running it hard low on oil. That is what pops these motors 95% of the time. You keep oil in it and maintain it it'll be fine.

Best down to earth review on a used GT350, well worth the watch, especially for the ESP info, was looking for an extended warranty for my F250, you just saved me $700! Just dumped a 2020 Dodge ScatPack, currently considering a 2022 used GT350 under 10K miles or a new DarkHorse with track package just under MSRP. Don’t plan to track it much, I have a 2004 Z06 that is my primary track car, would be interested to get your view on a choice, Thanks!
@VS666
@VS666 2 ай бұрын
I’d say just take the initial depreciation hit on a new dark horse and send it. Those things box stock are incredible and if you are tracking it all you need to worry about are consumables which will not void any warranty. I would go as far as making sure you put Motorcraft oil in it every oil change so if they do end up replacing the engine, there is no evidence of any other oil being used, not that you have to but better safe than sorry.

Man, great video. The video helps to ease the grief that I have from selling my 2019 GT350 just two days ago. Mine had 13.5k miles on it, was garage kept and was by far the most satisfying vehicle I have ever owned or probably will ever own. The only had two issues that were fixed under warranty; a shifter recall, and a rear half shaft boot had a tear in it. I toyed with the idea a few times about installing a supercharger, but held off for a variety of reasons such as potential resaleability, warranty compliance, and reliability. In the end, I only sold it to cover the cost of a new vehicle. If I would have kept it, I would have definitley purchased an extended warranty. To me, the car actually exceeded my expectations so selling it was very bitter sweet. Regarding your GT350, I know you have no evidence of it, but to me, the types of catastophic failures you have experienced would lead me to believe that your car had been supercharged at some point and then later reversed to maintain resale value. However, it sounds like you should be in good shape now. Thanks for the video!

I had 13K when I purchased the extended warranty, which is good till 2030 and 113K miles. It cost me $4200 I had no inspections done prior, because Tasca performs all the work on this car. The AC compressor went at 16K and it was covered. I am up to 23K miles and have had no issues.

No issues yet, but I do have the loud A/C compressor issue so I'll be taking it into Ford to fix that. Never tracked it and I drive it fairly easy except for a few pulls every so often. I just love driving it on windy mountain roads. On my 2nd set of Sport Cup 2's and about to buy my 3rd set at about 17,200 miles. It's never been driven in the rain.

I bought new an early 2016 GT350. Died on the test drive, sales manager said “it’s just out of gas don’t worry”. Take delivery 5 days later it died again with 18 miles on the clock. 6 weeks in the shop and tracked issue down to a jbad wiring harness. At 2000 miles the oil dipstick was dry, was the famous oil consumption issue. At that time Ford said this was normal due to it being a high performance engine and just top up the oil at every gas fill up. At 3000 miles the active exhaust failed, got an all new exhaust system. At 3500 miles pistons rattled sounded like a VW Jetta diesel at cold start. Ford again said this was normal in some GT350’s. After two years of issues I sold the car. The Worst part of the experience is I traded in my Dodge Viper for a newer / better car and regret doing that every day.

The warranty was well worth the 3k I paid and even was worth the price of the car in terms of labor and parts replaced

It had a check engine light for an evap leak that I haven't fixed yet but other than that it's been fine. I had an oil change at about 50k and it looked good. No oil burning issues unless I run it hard and then it's about 1/2 quart. I do have the whining noise you mention and the AC goes out intermittently so I may have to have it serviced soon. I daily my 2016, its been great and I haven't had any issues but a warranty is something that you should heavily consider when you buy one. You also have to treat this car differently than other cars, it needs to warm up before you drive it.

I just recently had all the other fluids fully flushed since the car is now six years old. I recently purchased the ESP warranty as well, because the engine is just north of $25,000 to replace if out of warranty. That is completely something I do not want to feel like dealing with so it’s better safe than sorry.

NVH kills everything, I've owned a gt350 and 350r before picking up a 500. Ford switched their road race programs back to a cross plane crank after 2 seasons because literally everything was buzzing off the engine. They did their best at trying to minimize the vibrations that we feel, but they are still there and it effects everything attached to the engine. The dual mass flywheel was their effort to reduce that vibration to the trans, it isn't enough.

If it makes you feel any better I’ve owners / 2 GT350 and 2 GT500 Different years on both, with that said the passenger side will be the only side you really will see oil on the catch can. I have the catch cans from Ford performance to JLT on the driver side that will never see any oil. You will see oil building up on the catch can just from regular start ups from time to time and that’s completely normal it’s doing its job.

Good review. It would scare the hell out of me to get a “preowned” Shelby or Hellcat type of vehicle, simply because folks just don’t buy them to drive to church on Sunday……they DRIVE them !!! Out of curiosity, can you retrieve the engine rpm history off the vehicles ECU ? And if so, how many folks actually do ? I know on my 911, if purchased second owner, it is pretty common to do this check. There are certain perimeters that, if the engine has experienced rpm’s in a listed range, purchase is illegal-advised.

I had asked a Ford engineer what they did to fix the flat plane crank engine issues they were having with these and he said, we stopped making them and went back to the good old reliable with a blower on it - we got the GT500 shortly after that. I wonder what Chevy did differently with the c8.

No, that was an AN fitting(technically sweating, not leaking) that I replaced an E85 sensor with because I didn’t want them to find that. It was a CA car that probably ran E85 some time in its life from what I found about the previous owner he lived near several gas stations that sold it. It’s a great way to combat heat when tracking the car but I wanted it to be 100% stock when I took it in.

I've heard gen 3 coyotes having oil ring issues when trying to push over 800hp. I wonder if this is a common issue from ford. I know the gen 3 yotes have piston slap too which makes a weird tick because my gen 3/1heads has a weird chatter from 2k-3500k which drives me nuts because my gen 1 shortblock didn't make that sound. I love the coyote platform which is essentially what the voodoo with a floatplane crank but they are sloppy with the details. When you saidbyou had a charging issue I was like damn that's me. My 14 was burning up power steering and rad fan pigtails and causing the 02 sensors to drop voltage under load. Replaced so much shit and had my tuner do some magic so it hasn't happened lately but still frustrating some of the dumb shit I've had to endure for no reason. Coyote/voodoo/predator is one of the greatest engines ever made but it's annoying having to treat a car like a small child and constantly have to keep an eye on everything and worry everytime you drive it that something might break. 😢😂 Still great video and love your car. Nothing sounds like a gt350! 💪

@Varg so what I’m hearing (being an automotive tech with a degree) you had Ford replace an engine and after ripping everything apart (all the stuff they had to disconnect) you started having more issues. These issues normally are caused by collision or by humans. I truly believe Ford should have picked up the bill on everything. They caused your parasitic loss and your A/c issues. I was busy typing so I’m not sure if they paid for it.

Big difference between replacing the Coyote in your 14 and the Voodoo in the 350. Every salvage yard in America has used S197 Coyotes for $3500. Voodoos, not so much.

@@beerwrenchgarage well first off its not a big difference because it's the same architecture. The voodoo is the coyote 100% so you could do whatever you wanted they are like Legos. @@TTyote So, Im going out on a limb here, but Im guessing you WERENT the captain of the debate team. You wrote a paragraph to essentially prove my point - which is: you can thrash a Coyote relatively worry free, because if it pops, you can have another used replacement engine for $3-5K and be up and running in a week. The average Joe can stomach that cost. If the Voodoo pops, you are out $15-18K just to get a used engine to your door. So with all the little odds and ends: gaskets, bolts, and what not, you can easily be over $20K to source a USED Voodoo. I have no idea what a new one costs or if they are even available as crate motors still. Point is, a person will be a lot more worried about popping a Voodoo than a Coyote.

Question: There seems to be discussion online about how the original owners (you were not the 1st owner obviously) were not familiar with how important and sensitive to lack of timely maintenance on these vehicles are and that this is what is causing the engines to have issues not any inherent defect. What is your take on this? 🤔
@VS666
@VS666 2 ай бұрын
I would say with confidence the owner previous to me took phenomenal care of it but also probably did the most track work. The receipts in the glovebox indicate he paid for a full detail with ceramic coating and PPF in a few spots, front camber plate install and alignment, Gyrodisc front rotors and track pads (still new in box) and was kind enough to throw all the stock parts in the trunk for the next owner. He most likely was good with maintenance but drove the car hard.

It sucks that your car gave you so much grief. Your experience however might put to rest the thought that the gen 2 motor is less prone to issues that the Gen 1. Lets face it, the "upgrades" to the gen 2 were heftier bits that were going to be used on the GT500, ultimately reducing the cost of manufacture for Ford. If you plan on boosting that's great. If you think you can run and rev this race engine without proper warm up or without checking and changing oil your're SOL, gen 1 or 2. Probabl ywhat happened before you owned it. Running AC at 8300 RPM ? What could go wrong ? While I'm at it , who drank the cool-ade when Ford told us that the cheaper solid rotors on the 19-20 were "better"? Did the engineers working on the $500,000 Ford GT not get the memo...lol? This is an exciting and rewarding car. Once you get it sorted I wish you many years of enjoyment.
