Kendrick's 'To Pimp..' blew me away in '15. Couldn't wait for his follow up and tried to cram 'Damn' down my throat but found myself gravitating towards a killer new artist that a mate of mine showed me recently named Oddisee. The Good Fight keeps getting a spin on my iPhone and this year Damn has been severely overshadowed by the Iceberg. Oddisee doesn't get a skerrick of the credit he deserves and it sucks that people keep praising underwhelming Nicki Minaj collabs, mumble rap & top 40 'hip hop' instead of acknowledging genuinely inspiring and talented dudes like this

im in love with how amir presents his music here, to me his body language suggests a deepest sincerity in communicating his words to the audience, his eyes are expressive and he just looks so earnest as a story teller. it all flows from him. i actually hummed the trumpet sounds when they performed 'that's love', haha. the first time i encountered oddisee's music was 3 years ago, from this playlist on 8tracks (lol, yeah), the track was 'that's love'. i remember vividly that when he started rapping, my ears stood and my focus sharpened, i savoured every word and tune in it, and became overwhelmed with emotion. ive never forgotten how i felt after listening to that.
