In 2006 these cats (including Gerard, RIP) were casually walking around downtown Seattle before their show at the Showbox and I got to giddily point at them and exclaim, "there goes the coolest band in the world". I still remember Tunde smiling and doubling over all bashful like. 18 years later they're still the coolest. Thanks NPR

Their album Seeds came in a black and white striped plastic CD sleeve. The CD liner notes had striped abstract art in them and if you put them under the CD sleeve, it did an optical illusion where you saw animated images as you moved the liner notes back and forth. Every song had it's own animated art piece. That was the single coolest CD I've ever bought and it must have cost them a fortune to do it but so worth it.

They were inactive for about ten years. Their original bass player died and Dave Sitek - who does a lot of the songwriting and production, and played lead guitar - decided he didn't want to play live any more. Also, Tunde Adebimpe is an actor as well as a singer, and his stage/screen career heated up.

Tv On The Radio is one of my ALL TIME favorite bands - and that's saying a lot because I LOVE music. LYRICS, the mixing of unconventional sounds and of course their energy all make my heart so happy. If you’ve never heard of them you’re in for a treat! There’s nothing like them! Even DAVID BOWIE lent his vocals on a song! These guys are the best thing to come out of Brooklyn and Maryland. Do yourself and go down the TV ON THE RADIO rabbit hole. Definitely check out DAVE SITEK a founding member who’s not playing live with them this time around ,other project he did THE NEVERLY BOYS. My phone knew I had just watched Twisters and suggested an interview in the Hollywood Reporter with Tunde, and all I could hope for was news that TV On The Radio might be coming back together, which he wasn't specifically saying was happening, but then the next day KZbin recommends their recent appearance on Jimmy Fallon and then brought me here for this NPR set. I'm joyous to youtube finally doing its job, then ruining it with random commercials in the middle of the songs.
