So I came to the same answer as you, but in your explanation you said the person was not dependent on the vestibular system. But I thought the point of the dome was to test the vestibular system. And if balance decreased with the dome on, then I thought they would be dependent on vestibular. Great videos. Thanks

John Carpinito Hey John! Thanks for writing man! So the dome is actually used for visual conflict. The dome gives the eyes inaccurate information which increases the challenge and forces the patient to attempt to use vestibular or somatosensory if able. In condition 6, you are correct. The person is on foam and we are testing the vestibular system. In condition 3, the patient has the dome on but the patient is not on foam. So in this condition we are primarily testing the somatosensory system and not the vestibular system.

Please, let me know why you did not consider Condition 4 as a problematic situation for this patient. I am thinking that once in C4 he is on a foam and the text says that regardless of whether the foam is used he has instability.. I thought this is a situation where the somatosensory system are disturbed. Therefore, this patient is dependent on somatosensory system as well.

Hey Lilian! Thanks for the question! I didn't consider it at all because the question didn't give me that information. The question didn't give me results of condition 4 so I can't assume the results. Looking at this question.. they give me results of conditions 2 (eyes blindfolded, stable surface), condition 3 (dome, stable surface), Condition 5 (eyes blindfolded, foam), and condition 6 (dome, foam) I know this because they say, "the patient becomes increasingly unstable when the eyes are blindfolded" (Conditions 2 & 5) or "when the dome is placed over the head" (Conditions 3 & 6). Therefore those are the only results I am given.
