Hello, I think, it was necessary to use the term coded message instead of 'code word', because the decoder does not produce code words but rather it uses them to give the coded message or a list of coded messages. Thank you for your explanation

Technically a coded message is just a sequence of codewords, so I think his usage of the term is correct. The decoder outputs the coded message by determining which codeword was sent.

Yes. It is a linear code and non systematic one. Can also be made systematic. But I heard similar sentiment from others. In early years of Polar Codes there was no discussion of distance and weight enumeration of Polar codes. But now there is. Some improvements in performance can be seen if the distance notion is used. Especially with concatenation with other CRC or Convolutional codes.
